The KonMarie method

Nothing done today in terms of Kondoing, but I have done a couple of little jobs that will make rehoming some of my things, once they've been Kondoed, much easier!
First job was in the kitchen, and involved removing a bin from a cupboard - only a couple of screws to undo but it was a bit fiddly. The cupboard has now been cleaned well and will be used for storage jars for flour, rice, etc.
Second job was fixing up a drawer unit, where 4 of the 5 large drawers had badly sagging bases. These are now all fixed with the aid of a few screws and little plastic bits. I was told by a guy in a large DIY store that I'd need to buy a sheet of plywood and have it cut into the right size and essentially reconstruct all the drawers. I found a pack of 10 'modesty blocks' for a quid and used 2 on each drawer.... It may not last forever, but given that I don't actually put anything very heavy in the drawers I think it'll do for a while.
Feeling very pleased about getting these little tasks done! Onwards and upwards everyone!0 -
Today, I have done kondoing here and there. Trying to do my office but its hard to just keep things that are joyful in there as so much of it that is useful but not joyful. I have however half filled the recycling bin, after filling it last week, and kondoed lots of small items to the bin.
I have also let go of three pairs of shoes - one pair that I have kept for about 10 years They have had insoles in for years but are so worn now that they hurt and rub on various parts of my feet so I have stopped wearing them. The others I didn't care for but felt like I had to keep them as I had spent quite a bit of money on them, but your comments earlier made me think and I have learnt from my mistakes and could finally let them goLBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Found we had some little Kondoning friends, helping themselves to our cereal, rice etc!! Fat cat should be sacked but given his age I think he considers himself retired...
So any tips on how to Kondo the little furry friends would be much appreciated! So far snap traps with Lidlos chocolate has snared two. However if there's two I'm wondering how many of a family there is:eek::eek::eek:Busymumofthreeplusdog......

SPRING CLEANING 2015: Sentimental Clutter! (Clean My Space): https://youtu.be/rhG2-o2IfXs
I subscribe to this young Canadian woman on yoo toob.
She runs her own cleaning company.
I love her cleaning videos. I find her very motivating.
I thought this on decluttering sentimental items might be
helpful for those struggling with this area of Komono.
She talks about gifts as well which we have been discussing on the thread.
Tooties
I too got permission to clear out my two sons 'bedside man drawers' recently.
Even the 'tidy' one had a full carrier bag of rubbish. Old train tickets, broken earphones- you name it.
There was still stuff 'not for my eyes' in there discreetly put back.
However im broad minded luckily lol.
I stapled all the odd bits of paper with phone numbers on put them in spare wallets along with €100 from holidays.
I used empty grape containers to contain different items, so hopefully they will keep things seperate. Ive added a loose change jar in there too.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Ellidee - I put wrapping paper in an old pillowcase, I've popped a ribbon loop on it and it hangs on a hook in the side of a built in wardrobe. All the bows and ribbons are in there too so it's all in one place.
I've really lacked time this past couple of months to get stuff moving out of the house - I'm hoping that this week I can make some more inroads into the hidden clutter. Everything that I've managed to get out of the house so far is in the garage, all boxed up for a boot sale but I've lost the will to do one so I've told DD's that they can have the stuff and the profits if they can get themselves up early one weekend soon and go make the effort to sell it.
I'd like to sort the craft stuff, have a second cull on the kitchen drawers and plastics/tupperware stuff and the larder.
I'm off to look at wall paper later too - I need to get all 3 bedrooms redecorated this year as we want to put the house on the market next spring....I've got a timescale to work towards for all this organising"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
We started on the cellar yesterday. It's shameful _pale_...
How I wish I'd been more thoughtful at the time. Theres three prams (big, medium and buggy) down there, now all so mouldy and dusty they're not worth anything but 7 years ago when the last one went down there 'for now' they could have been sold or at least done somebody a turn! Not to mention a couple of bags of cuddly toys, plastic toys etc.
There's also the usual tins of paint for walls that have since been painted another colour, 5 demijohns, jam jars, ( I do make jam but also have a stash under the sink!!) xmas bags(again all disintegrating & have a new stash under the bed)... I could go on but its tooooooo embarrassing!
I think it's goint to have to be a skip job:mad:Busymumofthreeplusdog......

What you've ecountered in your cellar is a classic case of Died in Storage. Please don't beat yourself up over it now, what's done is done. By posting about it, you are sharing a lesson you've learned and maybe prompting someone else to look again at their own long-forgotten storage and thus saving some other things from Dying. (((hugs)))

"Died in Storage" Love that!
I like your "unshopping" Grey Queen very apt. Just popped on to see how you're all doing. I've been reading the Kondo threads on mumsnet - most enlightening. I'm still busy "Kondoing" - I've found a total of 8 socket adaptors ( the sort that means you can plug two or three things into one socket,) and 7 X 2 metre extension leads. the sockets in my house all seem to be in the wrong place!
Got rid of an unused printer on FBook, (given to me by Best Friend when she was de-cluttering!)
Also donated a HUGE dolls' house as my 3 gdaughters don't seem to play with it anymore since they got ones of their own.
I'll be back later ........I'm goin' in!.....0 -

Thanks for reminding Konverts of this! :A Guilt is de-motivating.
Many of my past attempts to de-clutter have been de-railed by the fear of exhuming things that have 'died in storage'! I still have to face some of that digging, and I know it will be upsetting, uncovering previously joyful bodies.
All we can do in this situation is: acknowledge our responsibility for the wastage, make sure that it doesn't happen again, forgive ourselves... and keep on Kondoing! :jNeeds, NOT wants!

Thanks for the link again, Jinny.
I landed on the video of her re-vamped kitchen... Bad move. I'm green with envy! No hope of ever having such a fabulous kitchen.
I shall just do the best I can with my 1950s 6ft x 9ft. At least I don't have all those glass-fronted cabinets to clean! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!
