The KonMarie method

Made me think of this which is taken from a piece called 'If I had My Life to Live Over' written by an American (or maybe Canadian) writer Erma Bombeck.
" I would have burnt the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage"
Kinda fits in with all things KM
I'm decluttering/konmaring in my bedroom again today, I've decided it is time to let go of a pottery cow mobile a dear friend who passed away several years ago gave me when one of the children was little. It got broken and put away to await mending, but it will never mend successfully and every time I spot the box it is stored in I feel sadness for the fact it got broken rather than getting happy memories of my friend or the children being little. (Those memories are in my heart all the time not stored in a box with a broken trinket) so thank you konmari and thanks for the joy the windchime did give me and my little ones in its intact datys but it is now time to let go.

Thanks for the poem reference Igamogam.
It really does sum up KonMari methods so well doesn't it?
I am currently using a bar of soap that's moulded into a rose- it would probably have sat in the cupboard for years - like the snowglobe soap that stayed in the cupboard for so long it lost its scent and the clingfilm wrapper was disintegrating. That was ruefully thrown away. The rose soap smells lovely, and reminds me of the giver when I use it.
GQ you made me shudder with that description of the moths - yuk! Thank goodness you spotted it before it reached your clothes!

SPRING CLEANING 2015: Sentimental Clutter! (Clean My Space): https://youtu.be/rhG2-o2IfXs
Funnily enough I watched a previous video by the same lady several months ago. Before I came across KM I was looking at decluttering/organising videos on Youtube for ideas on how to organise and declutter my wardrobe and clothes. I found her video, which showed a very organised walk in closet and all those drawers full of clothes. I was shocked at how much stuff she had. I have to give her credit for how organised it was, but there was still so much.
When I learned about KM and I was sorting through my own clothes I thought of that lady and thought I hope she learns about KM, how can anyone cope with that much laundry - I'm so pleased to see that she did!
I am struggling to remove a dress from my life - the colour doesn't suit, but I love the style and I had a few fleeting thoughts that I might use the dress to make a pattern to sew a similar one in a nicer fabric. I think I might be kidding myself that my sewing skills can master such a challenge, and my sewing machine is currently boxed up awaiting freedom in the spare room of doom.
Having aired my shame publicly I now realise I'm being wildy unrealistic about my DIY plans - it's going into the charity shop bag when I get home."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

As a part of my job, I book pest control treatments for a local authority. A common narrative from the public is exactly what I have emboldened above; mice (or rats!) have been enticed into their garages by Stuff. Mostly by supplies of food (bird/ dog/cat/ occasionally human) plus supplies of bedding (clothes and other textiles) and habitat (upholstered furniture or mattresses awaiting donation/ repurposing).
Lovely people, if you keep this kind of Stuff in your garage or outbuildings, even in modest quantities and briefly, you run a very high risk of attracting rodents. I would think very carefully about storage, in terms of what/ where/ when. If you must keep food outside, put it in metal containers and sweep and dispose of any dropped seeds/ kibble very thoroughly.
I once had to deal with an indoors infestation of clothes moths, caused by a slovenly housemate using a corridor-sized walk-in cupboard as a store for unwanted clothes, just chucked in there and left undisturbed for years. They got out and started to infiltrate my Stuff. I caught them in the nick of time, due to a co-incidencal lifting of a wool rug and finding their cocoons on the carpet underneath. Everything of his was treated as a biohazard and binned, picked up one clear poly bag and the contents were literally running with toffee-brown clothes moths - ewww!
I have been steadily getting rid of clothes. Organised mine a couple of months ago but have lost some more weight since then and keep looking at my summer stuff and thinking that I can do without something as it will bring me no joy to wear and will be too big. So I now have a bag with another 6 items for the cs. Anyway there will be plenty of other peoples summer castoffs in the chazzers soon if I find I need anything, which to be honest I don't. I'll be able to get new to me clothes in the right size.
I have decided that tomorrow I'm going to sort out items in my spare bedroom. Been putting it off for too long. Realise that just because I don't use a room doesn't mean that I can put things in there and just ignore it by closing the door on it0 -
I have kondo ed my chest freezer! I was forever ferreting around in there getting freezing cold and never finding what I wanted. So, last week I emptied it all out. Threw out the rubbish we were never going to use. I have 1 large wire basket full of "meat", a smaller plastic one stacked with boxed ready meal type things, and another full of bread stuff and vegetables. It's a joy to go in there now and only half full. I have another tall freezer that had "stuff" piled in front of it so hardly ever used it.so this morning I sorted and tidied the stuff and emptied that freezer so we are good to go. And good job too because my father in law has just dropped by with a half price fresh M&S turkey for us.

Man drawer done. From so tightly packed nothing else was going in there to barely a fifth full. The rest was junk. It was also where I would put store receipts guarantees etc. I have found a pretty little folder and put them all in. Baking drawer and medicine cupboard tomorrow.Light Bulb Moment: October 2011

Yes she has a fabulous house and she is gorgeous too hmmph
I like her cleaning tuts
Since January this year I have been wearing just a small amout of clothing and footwear. About 12 items on a 3ft rail. It's been more than enough. I keep to basic 4 colours it's really minimilist. I have accessories that add colour. In fact I haven't worn half of those items. So might even get rid of more. They are mostly made of comfy stretch Jersey so forgiving of slight weight fluctuations.
I have kept a black sleeveles dress and jacket for formal occasions
I intend to wear this at a christening soon with a borrowed cream hat. Ive worn the same outfit for a funeral and a work reunion all dressed up with different accesories
I don't give a hoot if people notice I'm wearing the same outfit.
I've said all this before but some people haven't time to read through posts. I don't envy people with wardrobes groaning with clothes.

Afternoon all.
Members of the public have told me that rats have moved into (and chewed up, soiled and ruined) upholstered furniture put temporarily in their garages awaiting charitable donation. In some cases the despoilage has happened in only a week and the once-resuable item is now useless. I have also heard of people who have had proper rented storage units with reputable companies and have discovered to their horror that rodents have got into mattresses, sofas etc.
The only textiles I keep in my allotment shed is a smallish hanging bag of rags, hopefully not going to attract vermin and eminently disposable if they did get in. I'd go as far as to say never put textiles or upholstered stuff in outbuildings, it's not going to end happily in most cases.
Have been at work and come home again, and decluttered nothing other than the recycling, but better out than in.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Definitely fits in with Kon Marie:)
Thank you for that you made me smile, I am glad the candle didn't melt in storage, the same can't be said for alot of the carrier bags brought down from the loft. They definitely died in storage as GreyQueen says, more like bits of confetti when touched! Quite a mess everywhere! !
This journey has taught me and DH alot of lessons.
It's his sisters birthday soon (she will be a new decade:) )
Already bought her gift only consumables, a yankee candle, chocolates and wine:) so we aren't adding to any clutter. Will do this for gifts from now on.
We are having an anniversary party later in the year, will definitely state in the invites no gifts, we don't need any more stuff in the house:)
Jue - not sure if this will appeal to you, but my parents who were not rich in monetary terms, but had everything that they needed in their lives had great fun on many occasions throwing parties and asking for donations to their favoured charities rather than gifts for their "special" birthdays and anniversaries:)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Finally got round to doing the kitchen cupboards and the lovely dinner set that had been hiding in the sideboard and only came out at Christmas, is now in the kitchen cupboards to be used more often.:) Plenty more stuff ready to go to CS.
Best thing about the weekend was OH went into the attic to see what else was waiting to be car booted and he finally Kondo'd some of his stuff and went to the tip....with.....7 BIG boxes of old video tapes that have never been used for years and not likely to ever be used again. Most of them were stuff he had recorded from TV years ago. So feeling really pleased that
Got a day off before Easter break and hope to finally Kondo a lot of Photos, cards and "special" stuff that has been collected over the years, that probably isn't so special after all....LOLThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
