Morning all!
Wrote a big post yesterday and lost it, so long story short today.
Having been trying to sell/buy house since May last year, we now have the fab news that the chain above us is complete and we are full-steam ahead for the move!!!!! YAY!
I know we have a long way to go but now I am even more motivated. Leaving the KM book back to the library today for the next lucky soul who has reserved it.
DH printed Buffy's list off for me too, it is fab and I have happily crossed off a couple of bits. I have discovered a huge difference between my girls. DD1 (16) keeps everything! Major work needed there! She is also studying for GCSEs so it's a good excuse for her not to Kondo. Little one (8) on the other hand is loving getting rid of stuff. Can't wait to do more today. She must just be tidy by nature. If she disappears for a minute in a store, I will find her tidying the displays and putting packets all neatly! And she loves to samosa stuff!
So wish me luck guys, I'm going in! Got boxes of stuff in the living room since August and I intend to cull them down to one box full as I have no idea what is even in the blasted things, I've just been moving them and cleaning around them.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Good morning
I'm back on the thread as it's the school holidays and my only chance to do some serious kondoing.
Ay the moment I'm catching up with the cleaning, ironing etc but have been flinging as I go.
The cleaning cupboard, which I did awhile ago, is looking much better as items are being used up. I'm only replacing essentials. The kitchen on a whole has remained tidy. I reorganised it, DH and I were saying that it now works much better.
I need to sort out my clothes again. I've lost a bit of weight and some items are just too big, that's a job I will enjoy doing. If they don't fit, out they go.
Well I best get on with it. I'll report back later to keep me on track.
Have a great day.

What a fab reason for kondo-ing clothes - well done! :j
DS1 has gone through all of his clothes over the past couple of days. We haven't gone for KM folding in his room but he did release several tshirts/ tops, 2 pairs trainers, some underwear and 2 1/2(!) pairs of PJs :T
Have been through DS2's bookshelves and soft toys with him - 6 soft toys went and over 100 books (and he still has a full tall Billy bookcase!) About half of the books have gone to DS3 and the other half have mainly gone in a box in the loft for the next nearly new sale (June) - I've already priced them up before boxing them :T - with a few only fit for recycling. One cuddly has been kept by DD (a gorgeous rainbow bear which was originally hers), 2 are going to my mum for her dogs to play with and 3 have gone in the CS bag.
DD is being excused any sorting of her room, as she is revising for AS levels. Easter hols are traditionally when I get the children's rooms fully sorted out anyway - and I plan on making all 3 boys do their rooms (helping the youngest 2) - it's a good chance for a sort out of Winter things/ last year's Summer things, outgrown books and toys and a general full Spring clean of everything. DS2 and DS3's rooms need redecorating this summer, so this is prep for thatETA: children's rooms are not being sorted in a KM way, though

SO many Konverts with useful tips/comments this morning - must be the sunshine!

So wish me luck guys, Good luck with the boxes!Ay the moment I'm catching up with the cleaning, ironing etc but have been flinging as I go. I've been motivated to do [STRIKE]some[/STRIKE] more cleaning recently, now I can see the dust bunnies!
The cleaning cupboard, which I did awhile ago, is looking much better as items are being used up. I'm only replacing essentials. I think I will do my cleaning cupboard today. It is full of cleaning komono - those 'brilliant' products I've bought on failed de-cluttering forays in the past and never used since! J-cloths or ancient Jif, anyone?
I need to sort out my clothes again. I've lost a bit of weight and some items are just too big, that's a job I will enjoy doing. If they don't fit, out they go. I bought 2 new pairs of jeans last week, kept one and kondoed the other back to suppliers - I've lost a stone since Christmas, without even dieting! :j
Have a great day. You too, Polly!
DS1... did release... 2 1/2(!) pairs of PJs :T Doesn't bear thinking about!
Easter hols are traditionally when I... general full Spring clean of everything. Thanks for that! Mum and Gran did this. I think I will make a point of putting this onto the calendar in future - the Herald of Spring!
Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Hello sorry for just jumping in but I am struggling with something and could do with your help please. I have 3 children and toys and arts and crafts stuff is very hard to tidy once and for all:o What is your advice for kondoing toys etc. It is all organised into trofast bins but by the end of each day many of these have been tipped out and I spend far too long tidying toys. My husband says they just have too much and that even if we get rid of most of it they will still have plenty but they do play with everything so I find this difficult. Help please x0

I'm in the process of kondoing the cupboard under the stairs I've pulled everything out and have slowly been working through it all.
It is where I keep my sewing/crafting stuff
So far 3 carrier bags full of rubbish have been binned
A large carrier bag of fabric remnants, ribbons buckles etc is going to be offered to the high school textiles/art dept
A big pile of stuff I don't need or don't feel the joy of is being put in a CS bag. I use DMC threads for my cross stitch and came across about a 100 skeins of a different brand I must have bought when I first started but never used. They can go to the CS shop along with some stitching books and frames. It might get someone else started off on the hobby. I've got more than enough left.
Currently making sure everything is neatly put back in the boxes before i put it all back away. The joy will be because so much has been taken out I wony have to play Tetris to make it all fit and it shouldn't fall out on me when the door opens.SPC~12 ot 124

Perhaps by limiting the amount they can have out each day or saying they must tidy one lot back way before getting another lot out it might make your task easier. Do you rotate the toys so they have different things to play with each day or is it a free for all and they can have whatever they want out.
I was my own worst enemy when mine were little, they had more stuff than they needed and flitted from one thing to another and I was left with a mess to clear up once they'd got fed up or gone to bed.
Mine are in their teens and I still tidy up after them, so you need to set rules early if you don't want to be doing it till they leave home:eek:
If you limit what they have out it might be easier to see what isn't actually being played with, HTH I'm sure someone else will be along with better advice in a bit, I just thought while I was here I'd offer my imputSPC~12 ot 124

I saw on supernanny once that she got all the children's toys out, gave them a box each, and they could each pick a certain amount of toys to keep (say 6) - being as you have 3 children they effectively have 18 to swap between. Then she asked them to put the others into bags for children who didn't have any toys and donated them to a local hospital's children's ward.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Mrs moneypenny it is a free for all and a box of playmobil can be all mixed up with barbies and puzzle pieces and Lego by the end of the day, I'm a bit ocd about separating it all out and putting it away again but I must spend a ridiculous amount of time doing this when I'd rather be reading WITH my children or doing playdoh WITH them. I need to do something like putting some in the loft and rotating them but this is not what marie kondo would advise I think....confused x0

Hi just my pennies worth and although I brought up two boys im certainly like most people no expert.
I remember standing in my oldest sons nursery and wondering how it kept so reasonably organized and tidy. I asked one of the assistants that question. She just said thats the point they arent allowed to tip everything out. There were fights over things but they were taught to share. To respect their things and put things back in place when finished with it.
So maybe less is more as others have said.
plus a bit over the top praising when they do tidy up.
They woulldnt be allowed at school to make a mess.
Dont worry your doing fine and your best for them its all we can hope to do.
Maybe if we all use the nursery way and put back everything when finished with it. We can stay tidy too. Im just off to make a pan of soup and will try this out putting away and tidy as I go. :A”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
