Well I did the photos today. I can understand why it's advocated as a last thing to do. So many pictures!

I still had tons from my first wedding which I chucked. I did keep one though as it is of me and dad walking to the church...I look pretty and he looks handsome awww. Also lots of pictures of the kids which I have whittled down. It took me about half an hour all told. I shall look for an album now to put the remaining pictures in. I'm really pleased I tackled them as I feel lighter.

  • I'm quickly kondoing my way through a box of tissues. Just wish my nose would stop dripping.

It's not a fetching look having a tissue permanently shoved up your nose, but needs must!!
  • OMG just spent the last half hour helping DS kondo his clothes, for someone who started off reluctant he soon got in to the swing of it and 34 items of clothing now waiting to go to the CS and Clothing bank! he says he can go shopping now with his vouchers that he got for Christmas and birthday and know exactly what he needs! today has been a very good day!

Did my jewellery box last night, and a bit this morning.

Some odd broken "junk" jewellery thrown, some broken real gold set aside for potential sale (though it doesn't weigh much). I have a bracelet that is broken and made of "rolled" gold - someone at work has just said that it might have a value, anyone know?

One jewellery box has gone, as it is broken, the other has the remaining pieces in it. I am struggling with how to store costume type jewellery though - I have a lot of necklaces and a couple of bracelets. do I need another box, or has anyone been more inventive?

I also found a fossil thingy, the kind you get in Lyme regis. I was going to chuck it, then felt guilty - would a chazzer want it? I thought about reburying it to confound future archeologists

From a completely cluttered dressing table - with a bag of random toiletries, hair stuff, broken jewellery boxes and random trinket boxes, there is now 2 brushes, hairspray and mousse, one jewellery box and one trinket box. :T
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Hi, re the storage of necklaces, I've got a couple of hooks on the inside of my wardrobe door which I use to hang my necklaces, below that I have a couple of hooks which I hang bracelets on. Nothing seems to have got tangled so far!
  • I've kondo'd my fridge of those lurking pots of jam, condiments etc which were rattling around the back of each shelf. I've optimistically hung on to them every time I've cleaned out the fridge - but decided today to practice KM on anything I hadn't used in a while.

Out went horseradish sauce, well past its date, the remnants of two tiny pots of jam, and also some home-made apricot jam (not a favourite) and chilli jam (ditto) which I had been given. Also an out of date large jar of capers.

The fridge looks so much better, and I feel less harrassed looking into a clean, uncluttered space. The only jars still in there are my stem ginger, and french mustard, both of which I use regularly.

The fridge is now a soothing place to look into!

Unfortunately my experiences of the local "collecting" freecyclers are not good ones... people turning up late or not turning up at all! At least this way it is already out of the house and whoever does take it does so in THEIR time, not mine!

The people who "offer" items are lovely, it is just the time wasters who have out me off advertising things myself!

I know exactly what you mean re this, posted something on yesterday, and said something to the effect of collecting when you say you will, and don't even get me started on the ones that say "I'll have it" no please,or may I be considered, just had one chase me up asking me if I have decided one way or another!! Yes, it's not you!!

    And breathe ........

I also use plastic hooks for my necklaces, bracelets etc. Mine are stuck on the wall either side of my mirror. Works a treat :)

  • Got the book from the library and devoured it in a few days. It really is very easy to read. Will go back and make a list of the items to do in order. Had a head start here though so thank you everyone for your tips and advice. Expected lots of pictures or diagrams, but pleasantly surprised and actually you don't need them as you adapt the ideas for your own situation. Kondoed my underwear drawer at the weekend and wow what a difference. Was already reasonably organised, but by sushi folding knickers into clear plastic Ferrero Rocher containers really makes it so much easier. Still ball socks, but have them separated into work and home ones. Needless to say the work ones are a bit smarter. So much easier to take out each morning and thought I needed to buy some more, but have plenty, so very MSE.
Started to sort out DH stuff and he surprised me by culling his underwear. Rewarded him by buying more from the factory warehouse.
Also got rid of clothes which don't bring me joy. Am a bit of a hoarder and accept clothes from others which is pointed out in the book.
So much easier to pack for the gym and overnight stays.
The only thing now is frustration at not having time to carry on!!! It is a life changing method.
