    Sticking my head above the parapet......if bedding is being stored so long it becomes musty could it be that there is too much bedding that is not being used?? When I sorted our bedding I worked on the principle - one set on, one in wash, one spare for each bed..........works for us!

    I agree. Would also add:

    1) make sure that the linen is bone dry - if you iron it, let it air properly before putting away;

    2) rotate your stock - make sure the spares get used regularly;

    3) station a 'damp trap' in the cupboard, (make sure it can't get tipped over - the fluid collecting will attract damp there forever! Ask me how I know! ;));

    4) store linens somewhere dryer.

    I know I was thinking the same, but I have a bit of a dilemma because my son is talking about moving out maybe this year or next (with little money) and so will need his own bedding. The spare bedding is in really good condition. I will need to keep his normal bedding because he will stay over a few times a week. I've even thought of wrapping it all up and putting it in the loft?

    I think the loft would be a bad idea unless it's less dusty than mine :o
    Is there room in your airing cupboard? All my sheets etc live in there, and out-of-season quilts etc in plastic bags in the top of my wardrobe - suitably kondoed and rolled of course :rotfl: so they don't take up much space

    Another 3 huge bags of rubbish out today, some random clothes in the CS container at the supermarket, slowly slowly...

    I've been avidly following this thread, read the book and slowly working my way through a house that is groaning at the seams with stuff.
    So far I have done my bedroom, every drawer, shelf, under the bed, jewellery boxes... everywhere. The kitchen (apart from one cupboard which is next on my list) and ive just done the airing cupboard, paring it down to 2 sets of bedding for each bed (one on and one in the wash) 2 bath sheets each, 4 hand towels and 2 hair towels. I figured that I am never going to be so behind on my washing that I will need 12 hand towels! Massive bag of towels to take to the vets, apparently they are always grateful for old towels as bedding for their residents.
    CDs and DVDs are next too, will have to wait for my OH to help with that as he will want to keep far more than me! he is also terrible at keeping books, we have hundreds of his in every room of the house, some of them very smelly with that "old book"'smell, but he will not part with a single one 😳

    It's funny but when ive de cluttered in the past I've found it so difficult to be ruthless, however this time I have been just that, which is most unlike me!
    Just need to persuade my parents to start doing the same with their stuff, my mum has 2 bedrooms which are just full of clothes and their kitchen resembles a gadget shop with EVERYTHING on the work surfaces, which drives me mad as they have empty cupboards!

    Hello michelefauk, sounds like your doing great.

    Get well soon to our poorly konverts.

    DH got rid of the stuff by the back door. We can now get in and out safely. He'd been back about 30 minutes and DD brought down another bag of clothes.

    DS's are finishing off their rooms with lots of help from DH and myself. We will have a black bag to go once we have finished.

    I've also managed to use up some cleaning stuff so there's a bit more room on the shelf.

    Coffee break over so I'll get back too it.

    Well made a bit progress today with the cubby of many things
    all of it is in boxes in my dining room.
    Theres two pathways now into the room. How it all fit in the cubby a third of the size of the dining room beats me.
    I had to stop as I couldnt stop coughing and sneezing and had a sore throat. I thought I was coming down with the Konverts lurgy at lot seem to have on here.
    I feel ok now so it must have been the dust from the boxes.
    yukhow disgusting. I dust and hoover regularly so it must be the junk.:eek:

    Jinny - DS is sneezing due to the dust in his room. I'm sure he will sleep better now his room is organised and clean. He's off to uni in the summer, goodness knows what his room will be like there.

    Don't know if any of you have seen her post on the "If the SHTF" thread, but poor kittie has lost her husband very suddenly :(
