I'm so sorry to hear about the lady loosing her husband suddenly, it's such an awful shock. This week my uncle died suddenly aged 62 from a heart attack. It's so hard to take in when it's sudden like that.

    Sorry to read that.xxx:(

“Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.”
  • For those who are struggling with going through everything at once, I have found sorting things through, then just thinking about an item for a few days really helpful.

For example, a pink silk scarf went out the other day, which survived the first cull. It is pretty, but I couldn't remember the last time I'd worn it - and couldn't imagine when I would. So out it goes for someone else to find some charity shop treasure :T
A jumper will follow I think, others seem to always be chosen before it, and I'm also carefully considering cookbooks.

I'm wearing a re-discovered pair of trousers today, realised (after getting to work obviously!) that they were not being worn because the zip won't stay up  Thank goodness for a long top :rotfl:
During the day the fasteners have also sort of pulled out and gone weird (they're not just buttons, and have sort of ripped through the fabric so not worth saving) Another for the rag bag.
But at least this is now a conclusion, rather than them just sitting about.

Elasticmoney, will you be able to try on a few pairs with hubby and then measure up the ones that he likes against a pair you know fits. It might save you both trouble.

Well done on your success so far.

just wanted to pass my condolences to Kittie for her loss. Puts a lot into perspective

So my sorting has included all of my jewellery, lots of which I have donated to my god kids for their dressing up boxes, body lotions and creams which like another poster I hardly ever use anyway but get every christmas/birthday.
Not started on clothes yet but will be soon
Toolbox in the garage which had a remarkable number of screwdrivers/spanners and alan keys. I also had more screws than I have holes in the house, jars and jars and jars of them along with the equivalent number of wall plugs. The garage still has a long way to go

I will be honest now despite this maybe getting my ousted from the thread :D I am not actually seeing any real difference in this method compared to any other decluttering/sorting/tidying method. It is probably me as I will probably never wrap my knickers like a spring roll or say thank you to my bottles of wall plugs :o Mind you saying all of that I am a plastic bag samosa convert and will be continuing with this no doubt.

My cynical self will continue however and once I get started on the clothes I may well become a folder over night ;)

I don't think we'd kondo you from the thread for being a doubter - we just need to work harder on konverting you

I don't think this process is purely about the folding of clothes and tidying up our houses. Alot of it seems, to me, to be about assessing why we have been holding on to all these items, recognising the fact and letting go of them if it's now the right time.

    Kittie

I'm so sorry to read of your loss - my thoughts are with you x
  • I realised today that I've got to the point of having "pre-Kondo'd" the whole house now and to be honest if the house stayed this level of uncluttered and tidy I'd be pretty happy.

However I still feel a way off of my Kondo vision and I'm aware that I've been doing this quite piece-meal (even though I have shifted a lot of stuff and am hardly bringing anything into the house) so I think I'll have a bit of a rest, re-read the book wait until my energy levels are back up & go through the process according to the book.

I'll stay around on the thread though to keep my motivation up and to see how you are all doing :-)

    Good Evening Konverts,

I have to agree with another poster who wrote that their kondoed areas are staying tidy, its so true! All my drawers are so tidy its a delight to open them and to fold my dry laundry (thats just a bit sad isn't it).

I finally finished samosaing the last of my carriers today.

    Restarted on my komono today!

I have a "junk drawer" only 1 each for the 3 of us, i keep toileteries, costume jewellery, hair stuff and the like in mine. I previously kondoed some of this stuff but i have to revisit this drawer i am hoping to tackle this tomorrow. Need to be more ruthless.

    Keep on Kondoeing

    regards

I am behind on my Kondo plans :( I had my recharge jab yesterday and felt better hoping to wake up with renewed vigour but woke up with a pounding headache instead.........also had to pop into work today - planned with colleague as we get sooooooo much more done during half term when there are no children around:) Was wiped out when got home and went to bed for 3 hours. HOWEVER now feel much better. Plan to Kondo porch tomorrow which is quite big housing coats, jackets, shoes, boots; boxes of hats scarves and gloves; bags various; sports gear various and an old post office parcel weighing scales! I am going to 'prep' tonight and empty contents of porch into living room and it will be the first thing I tackle in morning. Right off to do said plan whilst having an eye and ear on QT :)

Good luck Igamogam - that sounds like quite a pile! and I hope you're feeling much better today and can set to with a will!

The grey jeans that got ink on them - I've now dyed them deep grey, and the lingering remains of the stain are completely hidden now. Smart enough to wear to work.

I also dyed a grey denim skirt, and it has taken up the dye so well it's almost black. It had been at that scruffy washed-out stage, not quite good enough for work wear, but I love the shape, it's long and flares out slightly at the hem, so I'm glad it's been revived back to smart.

I guess that's a different sort of kondo to discarding: making things useful again, prolonging their lives and saving money and the Earth's resources.

It's a fresh but sunny day here so up n atem
I'm busy today so not much tidying
    Just a bit basic chores
My Tardis cubby is still empty and just
opening the boxes they are currently taking
Up residence in my dining room
It was the only way to do it. It's a slow progress
I'm tiring easily from the task.
Blast I found some more paperwork in a box in there
I had Kondoed papers about a fortnight ago
I think it can all go it looks ancient.
I seem to be stuck and can't quite get the last of this
Done. I hope my old habit of not finishing anything isn't returning
The sunnier lighter days are peering through so I must not give in now. Maybe read the book again for inspiration
Caught up with the archers omnibus yesterday
There's a lot of talk about decluttering on there.
