I've an afternoon off so am planning a bit more kondo-ing. Posting my intentions on here seems to make it more likely to happen so here goes! I am aiming to do stationery (not including specific crafting stuff), wrapping paper supplies and 'computer stuff'. Hopefully I will be posting back later to say all done :-)

In her second book she mentions decluttering toys- teddy bears etc. I decluttered my two old teddies a few years ago on ebay. One went to America and one to Australia. All I can say is some folk have more money than sense :D They paid for our summer holiday that year:T

Yes, she mentions 'stuffed animals' (soft toys) and tells us to blindfold them before we despatch them!

I hope you thanked your teddies for the holiday - you can still do it now, mentally! :rotfl:

OK I can silently say thank you to an old coat/ pair of shoes/kitchenalia which has given me me faithful service. I can even pick up a book, a scarf, or a bag and say out loud 'this no longer gives me joy' but I will never, NEVER blind fold my teddies:rotfl: I have 3 mine, my mothers and my grandmothers ( which is probably an original 'teddy') all much loved and still make me smile sitting on a small out of the way shelf, no use for anything else, in the bedroom:D

Porch is proving to be a right PITA.........cleaned all the windows inside. Dewebbed corners. Dusted shelves. Vacuumed floor and have moved Post Office scales but only got rid of small carrier bag of scarves and gloves and a brolly . The rest of the stuff I can genuinely say we use.....a lot:( I thought is was going to be producing so much more.

  • seriously ???? blindfolding teddies:eek::eek::eek: wow some people have far too much time on their hands.

The news of a new book did make me smile surely all the steps should have been in book one if she is sticking by her own rules??
Cynical me is back big style so I wont be buying this one for sure.

I will be attacking my clothes this weekend though - much needed declutter and discard. To my shame I have actually got a floordrobe now in both the spare room and my room and that is just not me so time for some action. Had a good chat with my mum over lunch today and she has been decluttering a lot lately too. Their house was never overly cluttered but she has now decided that most of ornaments are not giving her any enjoyment and she hates dusting so its off to the charity shop :D It did make me sad though when she said her thought process now (in her 80s ) has to be to get rid then her kids wont have to deal with it :( I understand the thinking but it does still make me sad

So plan this weekend is clothes - bring it on maybe I will be more convinced by sunday night :)

Hi igamogam - does it all need to be stored in the porch? Can some of it live elsewhere?

At least you've done an audit of what you have, you know what's there and that it's still of use. Try to get some joy from that?

I havent read the book yet but this is definitely up my street! For some reason just after getting my LBM I had this incredible urge to clean and declutter and I definitely agree that less is more now :)

I have got rid and given away a lot of stuff and want to live my life with as little stuff as possible! This is so strange as I never felt this way before and I think it did have something to do with the starting over, repaying debt and changing my attitudes to material things... Dont get me wrong there are things that I love and would never give up (my ipad is one :D for example) but I jut want to keep the stuff that I love and everything else to a minimum.

I had so many clothes, many ill fitting and things Ive not worn, now I have a very manageable wardrobe and will employ "one in one out" policy from now on :)

Will keep reading this fab thread for more ideas

I have thanked the twenty or so pairs of knickers I've just chucked, for being of great service to me - where would we be without them, after all?

Anyway, I had to modify my folding technique for the remaining thirty or so due to the fact that they are not quite as dainty looking as those on the video clips but, my drawer(s) look nice and organized now. I can't say that I love any of them and some really should be thrown out but the thrifty part of me thinks that I will wear them when indoors. There is no hope for me! My sock drawer is now looking neater and I discarded all those tiny little slipperette type things that always ride up inside my shoes anyway. My bras look presentable and I was even thinking of getting a divider to free up one of those drawers by combining.

I have been looking after my grandsons for two days and did not get ANY sleep last night as one was a bit poorly. They were collected earlier this afternoon and instead of sitting with a cuppa or a glass of Friday wine, I went straight upstairs to indulge my new tidying habit.

Tomorrow it will be my t-shirts and other tops.

My wardrobe is bulging with clothes but also with bargain gifts bought in advance in response to HUKD and here. I will wrap them up and put them in the loft, make a list and resolve to stop buying now as there are always bargains to be had. Who exactly did I buy those M&S picnic mats for at the end of last summer?

I am working towards discarding my diaries, e.g. a page a day from 1971, in my late teens, right through till recently when I stopped writing. I still read my old diaries but they actually do depress me, make me feel like having a stern word with my younger self for not being more assertive etc. I don't want anyone to read them, for sure, so I have decided I am going to plunge them into a bath tub full of water and leave to soak my old life away.
