The idea of 'indoor knickers' makes me laugh. Just make sure you dont fall down the stairs and need to call an ambulance while wearing them!

On another note, my stationery is done and I am halfway through the computer stuff. Does anyone know, can I take old power cords to the recycling centre? I know they take electrical appliances but wasnt sure if I could just dump cables?

Also, thinking ahead, how do you dispose of sharp knives? (nothing sinister I promise!)

 An elderly lady of my acquaintance had, for reasons best not enquired into, possession of a switchblade. And struggled to know what to do with it. She ended up being rather naughty and dropping it down the gulley drain at the side of the road.

By sharp knives, do you mean kitchen knives or something else? From time to time Police forces have knife amnesties, and you may be able to anonymously-donate unwanted sharp things there.

Could you try offering the cables on Freegle? I've also seen them being sold at chazzers, so maybe that's an option? Otherwise, I think the electrical section at the dump would be the place, but you could always check on their website and email them if the answer isn't up there.

Well toiletries declutter went quite well, thrown out quite a lot and rejigged the drawers a bit, but not got round to the bottom drawer yet, that will have to wait till tomorrow now. I just feel like I need some nice dividers in some of the drawers though. Used a couple of plastic fruit containers (the sort you get nectarines/plums in etc), but they are not quite big enough and not sure what else to use. Was going to search Fleabay, but don't really want to end up actually buying stuff.......maybe I will find some containers once I start to declutter the cupboards or loft.
So tomorrow is finish the bedroom drawers and the shoes that are all over the house and do books, CD's & DVD's.

I freecycled my old computer cables and power cords, the person who took them seemed pleased to have them. Can't help with the knives I am afraid though. We have far too many, but OH would have a fit if I got rid of any :rotfl:

    Electrical Leads

Our council tip takes leads. In fact, they cut the wires from any electricals. The copper wire is recycled. :T

Ploppy57, I have found that shoe boxes have proved quite good or if you have some cardboard you can make some dividers to fit drawers.

I have been following you all every day and have been steadily kondoing the house over the last few weeks, I work long hours so it has to fit in! All has been going well, six large bags to the charity shop today, took a day off which is luxury, they didn't look too pleased. . . . . And best of all is the cupboards and drawers are staying tidy, it is soooo nice being able to find things!

Am enjoying everyones posts but don't post much myself, sorry!

Yes, she mentions 'stuffed animals' (soft toys) and tells us to blindfold them before we despatch them!

What's her reason for the blindfold? Seems awfully cruel in some witchcraft kind of way.

:) I read on the decluttering blog 365lessthings about the difficulty of getting rid of things with eyes. It seems to be a psychological issue for us human beans - it has eyes, therefore it is alive and has feelings. And so can't be decluttered. Perhaps blindfolding them is MK's way of breaking that bond?

Here's the bit, if you're interested:

    http://www.365lessthings.com/simple-saturday-clutter-with-eyes-chrissie-would-like-your-advice/

I must admit that things with eyes give me the w*llies and I don't give house room to softies, dollies, knick-knacks in human or animal form or even pictures of things with eyes. It freaks me out having Things Looking At Me.

  • If anyone likes to drink wine, I have found that wine boxes make great containers. My OH likes to drink wine so I have cut up the boxes. They are great for stationery in drawers etc.

I also found some useful boxes for costume jewellery at ikea. They have helped me sort my jewels and also makeup. My bedroom is officially Kondoed. Except for the stack of engineered flooring, old shower screen and mirror for living room for when it is decorated.

I don't know if anyone is finding that they can ignore things that they aren't yet ready to dispose of. I think that I have realised that some items are beyond my control and until they come under my control I should just let it go. What do you lovely people think?
