  • I love this book! I downloaded it 2 days ago and have been like a whirlwind sorting stuff out - managed to free up 2 pull out drawers in my wardrobe with folding stuff and got rid of a bedside cabinet that was just holding stuff I didnt need (and did not bring me joy!) I feel so much better as I was hanging on to so much stuff (I will get into it/I bought it and never wore it etc) and now its all in bags ready for the car boot pile. I have put bags inside bags with the straps showing (genius) I really do love all her daft ideas like thanking clothes and find it great fun - my family all think I am mad but hey ho - at least my clothes are organised, folded and only the things that bring me joy are in my wardrobe - cant wait for the weekend to attack the rest of the house! I do like her idea of doing all similar items at once - little and often has never worked and this blitzing does. I tried to do a drawer that had all sorts of stuff in (including photos) but just like she says, I got bogged down so stopped. And I always got stuck in the storage dilemas so this process of discarding stuff first is really working well...:j

They cannot be both dark to light and even rotation. ;). Something has to give somewhere. I suppose it also depends what your regular wardrobe is and if you wear your knickers 'what's next out of the drawer' because they go under most/ all of your clothes or of you wear different knickers / bras with different clothes.

Re bra and knicker sets. I buy two knickers for each bra too but the knickers out last the bras for me. :(. I end up with loads of spare knickers. I did a big 'knicker bish' a few months ago, getting rid of any that didn't delight me, but ended up in that bish getting rid of some that actually I kept and liked for when I'm bloated. :( I think its wasteful to get rid of things that have been in sets if they no longer have matching 'friends' so I have a nude bra at all times to make up my own mixed set, of nude bra and what ever bottom. ( I don't like to be too mis matched).

Edit. After typing this I realised something I haven't edited for a long time is my collection of spanx type garments. :( that certainly could do with an edit. Sigh.

Weeding out stuff leaves more space, as we have noticed. Folding efficiently leaves even more. :j

Use the suggested methods for folding, but fold so that garments are almost to the full depth of the drawer.

Folding too many times can result in fat little babies! These take up more base space, leaving useful space above. Where practicable, fold things fewer times, so they use up the height, but are still firm enough to be filed.

Even more space, for other items! :T

  • Ok, so the kidder thinks ive lost the plot altogether now. She walked in on me folding Asda carrier bags into neat little triangles and had the phone in her hand ready to have me sectioned :rotfl:
Anyway, my 400-odd carrier bags (i know, i know, can we say, "plastic bag obsession") are now whittled down to 20 neat little triangles that can share a drawer with my sushi-rolled tea towels :j

Your folding technique is my current technique but then I stack by colour. Then rummage and end up with a mess.

My sushi rolls are getting better. It seems to be about a firm roll and I think konmarie mentions something similar about folding.

I have a big proofreading job that I am wading through, but I am making a wee bit of time to pop back here for my kondofix. I have done the bathroom as it was quick but I can't believe how desperate I am to fold my knickers and fitted sheets!

Can the pedant in me please draw attention to the fact that we put our knickers in drawers, not DRAWS! It drives me nuts and this thread has had more than its fair share!

Could someone share the kondo bathroom method. I get the clothes folding and rolling. I will buy the book but need to buy it from a shop I have some vouchers for.
    Thanks in advance.

For the bathroom, there was some woman on youtube who spent about 45 mins telling us how she held every single thing etc. Showed about 20 secs of useful stuff and the rest was just waffle.
What I did, was I think along the same principles as KM. I held every single thing and decided whether I liked it or whether it was useful. I got rid of all of those half-used or barely-used lotions and potions that had been lurking, unloved and unwanted for too long. The result was the necessary one bottle each of in-use shampoo, conditioner etc.Toothpaste and brushes and other absolute essentials got to stay. I had cleared out my 'tubs' cupboard and had 3 clear ice cream size lidless tubs. I have put them on the shelf where once there was a mass of bottles to clean under, knock over, leak etc. One for my dh things like his razors, hair gel etc. One for DDs and I with our deodorants etc and one in the middle for all the toothpaste and other essential dental stuff.
Every time I am in the bathroom it is easy to see if anyone has left something outside of its box and so easy to pop it back. It also now takes seconds to lift the three boxes and clean the shelf instead of lifting every bloomin' bottle!
