    Waffle!

We have both in our house. I have an imac I really like to use - vibrant screen, single click or even tap of the mouse, amazing keyboard compared to most Win machines.

and all of that you can have with a windows machine as well

    Hi guys,

    Looking for some advice here.

The Mrs has decided we need a laptop. This is because she cant do everything she wants on her ipad so needs one. Question is, which one.

We both have ipads and iphones because they are easy to use, and I am not very tech savvy. I can do AV systems with no problems, but computers... no. So ipad and iphone suit me, they seem hard to mess up.

I do not need it for anything particular, and I think she will only want it for office like stuff.

I am thinking apple is probably the way to go so it can integrate with our other stuff (ipads, iphones and apple TV), but they dont seem too user friendly to me, or I could be wrong? The only computer I use is at work and I can manage internet and email and office, that is all I need.

So my question is, what would be a good buy? I have about £1000-1500 to spend. Maybe a mac book air? I have no idea.

If you want to go in to ghz details, I will do my best to follow, but please make it simple for me :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Luke

I'm not going to recommend either.

As you can see a question like yours brings out the Apple and Windows haters in force.

What I will advise is that you go somewhere and try a bunch of laptops, Windows, Mac and even Chromebook.

Have a go and see which one suits your needs and how easy, or hard, it is to do the sort of things it will be used for.

Then make up your own mind and be happy that you have the laptop that suits you and meets your requirements and not because someone else thinks it's the one you should have.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with new Macs. I always buy second-hand. I was trying to illustrate the unfriendliness of Windows 8. A DVD slot is provided but no software to play DVDs. Very confusing for the beginner.

Ah as unfriendly as OSX not being able to play Blu Ray natively you mean?
Each OS has its little foibles that are sorted pretty quickly.

I think it would be good if all the contributors on this thread state what they are using to post here! Then we will see how long things last and work out which is best.
This is done on a 2006 Macbook, 13inch basic model still going strong with 3 hours use on original battery. Hence my next laptop will be a Macbook!

hardly a scientific way to make a choice, I could post on far far older windows kit than 2006 if I wanted to - longevity shouldn't really be part of the debate, machines either work or don't, it's pot luck, and batteries and the like come from the same sources
