Could the Apple-bashing stop?
No-one is forced to buy their products but it is false to say that they are just about marketing or that customers are gullible.
Their communication and marketing are second to none. True. That's why everyone else is trying to copy them on those.
Their products quality and design are also second to none. And that's also why everyone else is trying to copy them on those.
This allows them to position themselves as the premium or even luxury brand and charge more.
Everyone else would love to do the same, but it's is not that easy to deliver both on the product and on its marketing.
Personally I'll be happy as long as there is choice.
People can choose a PC, or a Mac: We all win.0 -
I liken it to car manufacturers. Apple is a bit like Audi - you pay extra for the badge, the service, and the generally more premium materials. Underneath it all it's very similar engineering to a Seat, and they share many components. One is more costly, they both do the same thing, the residual values vary, etc etc. if you want and can afford (and are happy to pay) the higher priced product then go for it and get as good a deal as you can. If you don't want to pay a higher price, want something more affordable, or simply prefer the Seat, go for that.0

I mostly agree with your analogy in that apple is a designer brand.
However most apple users don't see it like that and I suppose unsurprisingly feel the need to big up apple products because they have paid so much for a product that is ultimately underspecced for the price paid for them.0 -

Unfortunately it works both ways. Some people on this forum essentially call apple users stupid for buying what is an expensive product. They then big up their choices. And so it goes, until flame wars start.
I wouldn't say Apple was purely a designer brand - it does have well engineered products that use premium materials and it's customer service is second to none.
I personally couldn't justify spending a grand plus on a laptop but i do recognise that premium build wintel laptops can cost nearly as much as a Mac book.0 -

Waffle!
We have both in our house. I have an imac I really like to use - vibrant screen, single click or even tap of the mouse, amazing keyboard compared to most Win machines.
Great dock - just like the Mac doc system, like the update system, never had an issue with it.
Software more or less runs the same, so no difference there, browsers excepting Safari are more or less the same, good for the kids, as they use same browsers elsewhere.
Older macs struggle with Flash, what a pain on macbooks, fans speeding up and having to use coolbook or similar.
Disk utils are different, again they more or less do the same thing for most users, so take your choice.
Windows, well it's good, Windows 7 in our house, does the job, speedy, software availability is great, all my business software runs well, which it does not on the Mac - needed Parallels for that.
It is a futile debate IMO, I would have more macs if I could afford, because I like the interface, both do a good job, and for general home use, I am sure will continue to.
Oh, one thing macbooks do stand out with is the mag adaptors, laptop manufacturers would do well to copy it.....0 -

It's customer service should be good, you pay enough for it.

'wintel' is nearly as bad as 'crapple'
A friend has been asking about upgrading his Asus GT780 new it was £2000+, (he uses it for video editing when he's away on an assignment).

I was referring to the use of the word(s) rather than the meaning behind it (them).
The same goes for the various 'humorous' ways of spelling Microsoft.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Nothing disparaging was meant by wintel, it is an accepted term for the windows/Intel platform as a whole that incorporates all oems of systems. It's very different from micro$oft etc. Crapple meanwhile is meant solely as a disparaging remark as it indicates perceived quality. I use a dell w8.1 system btw.0

I buy macs for the OS and the integration of services.
No other reason
(I use Windows at work but much prefer the Mac OS)
Does my post win a prize for not being inflammatory to either side?Scrimping the nuts out of life since 2006!:cool:0
