  • I have tried windows 8 and I couldnt get used to it at all. Probably didnt give it chance to be honest, but as I say, I dont use computers.

I think from doing more research that apple would be the way to go, purely for integration with everything else.

Handsome90 - screen size is not really an issue. Big, small, I dont mind.

I am having a look at the 13 inch mac book pro with retina display. I guess that is just a better screen. It is £999 from apple, but I could find one on ebay I suppose.

That would integrate with everything and do what she needs. I just think it might be overkill, but at least it will be relatively future proof (I hope?).
  • Thanks everyone for their input. It is giving me a headache looking at this stuff. Going to just ignore it and see if she mentions it again and then go to an apple store and have a look myself.

    Or the Apple refurb store.

Or for a cheap option, a keyboard case / keyboard for your iPad. Almost turns the iPad into a laptop. i.e. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=node%3D430483031&field-keywords=ipad+case+keyboard&rh=n%3A430483031%2Ck%3Aipad+case+keyboard

I've never used one and it may not be suitable - just another idea in the mix.

Another option if going for Apple, and you have someone who is a student or in education (teacher) is to go through their education programme.

I don't really know the ins and outs of it all, but have read that uni students qualify for the largest discount. I have no idea if you can purchase through the refurb store with education discount. Perhaps others can advise?
  • Thank you! The refurb and the education options look great... you have probably just saved me £££s! My mother works at a special school so that is a good route to go down if I decide to get a new one. This is why I love MSE :)
  • £80 cheaper via the education thing which is good! Ill see if I can find the same stuff on the refurb.
  • And almost £200 cheaper for the refurb! Thanks :)

You can have a lot more integration with an Apple computer such as using iMessage on the computer as well as the mobile device.

You can answer a call on your Mac, Ipad or Iphone, you can video chat on any device, you can view SMS on any device.
