There isn't an appetite for that conversation in the UK: you've paid your stamp so you get whatever pension you require and an unlimited amount of health provision 'for free'.
British people will see the country bankrupted before they discuss the NHS in sensible terms.0 -

I think we have to. Maybe this one's my challenge of hope over reality. It's a bigger issue to me than immigration (economy always comes first). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? there is no need to discuss the long term funding of health care as the British are tolerant of rationing by stealth - at least for the next 5 years0 -
1. FTSE will fail yet again to exceed pre dotcom crash levels of the late 1990s.
2. Most will not feel any benefit from this apparent economic revival(just like last year).
3. Nestle and Cadbury continue to downsize their chocolate bars whilst at the same time trying to brainwash us into thinking that they are providing better value by not putting up prices.
I hope I am wrong about 30 -

Unfortunately I think 3 is a shoe in. Even the mighty Yorkie now looks emasculated. And what idiot came up with the name "fun sized" for small choc bars? What's fun about having less chocolate? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Is it possible to bankrupt a nation by spending less per capita on healthcare than your major competitors?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

No but then that wasn't what I said.
If you keep providing unlimited amounts of 'free' healthcare to an aging population you'll go bust. You can pretend that the NHS is free if you want to but it isn't.0 -

Yes it is a case of it being very expensive, and it's going to get even more expensive and do we want to pay for it or not. I suppose the real questions are, just how expensive is it going to get and what are the alternatives. Maybe if they do something earlier the alternative could be more palatable, rather than waiting until it is an absolute crisis. The danger I suppose is that politically, it would be difficult to sell to the public before it is at crisis stage.
Is private healthcare tax deductible? If not, I think that it should be.
EDIT: Maybe we are already at the crisis stage?Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

extrapolation of incorrect hypotheses always shows that armageddon is nearly upon us.
we don't provide unlimited health care now (free or otherwise) and there are absolutely no plans to do so from any of the major parties.
nobody, except ex-pats, believe that the people of the UK think that the NHS is 'free' : they all know it's paid from taxation.
there is about zero chance of the UK going bankrupt because of the NHS.0
