Don't KFC give you a credit card receipt to check?
    It's someone else's fault.

You need to report it to the police

They can then go ahead and arrest all the staff on suspicion of theft and start questioning them

The will also be able to get a forensic team in to remove their computer systems and start going through the hard drives with a fine tooth comb to get evidence.

The above should only take about 6 months. They will then be in a position to press charges. When the case comes to court the judge will be able to order the offender to repay you in addition to any fine/goal sentence awarded to the nefarious miscreant.

I reckon you should get your money back before the end of the year if you are lucky. However this could be delayed if an appeal is lodged.

I forgot to consider the ongoing consequences.

As this branch has had all their computer systems confiscated for investigation then it means that they are unable to operate.

This will mean that in very short order the branch will go bust and close permanently

OP, can your conscience accept that for the sake of £3.99 you have closed down a business and put around 6-10 people on the dole. They will struggle to get another job due to the threat of a possible theft charge hanging over them.

Is it worth posting forum and Facebook messages for £4?

I can beat you on this. On the 29th I paid off £3k on my Amex charge card and then they took the whole amount by direct debit on the 2nd. However they are refunding it to me but will take 5-7 days.

Have you tried picking up the phone and speaking to customer service. Failing that you could get the local newspaper involved and pose with your arms folded outside of the said KFC looking like you are chewing a wasp.

Finally, perhaps you should examine your financial position. If £4 has left you desperate perhaps the KFC was out of your league to begin with

I wouldn't bother waiting for a refund. Your bank can reverse it immediately under the DD guarantee - that's what it's there for.

But reading the OP's other posts, it does look like he will have some heavy expenditure fairly soon.

And if he is considering getting the police involved, best to choose carefully which station to report the theft to. ;)

Given the OPs liking for the sauce it is also possible that he had a bad case of the munchies and did actually eat 2 meals and is simply suffering from alcohol-induced amnesia.

I wouldn't be 100% sure that the DD guarantee would apply in this case.
TBeckett100 would have given Amex permission to take the money using the direct debit that they set up and normally when amending or cancelling DD's, notice usually need to be given a few days in advance of when the next payment would be due.

As they made a payment on the 29th Jan, there was only 2 working days between that date and the date the DD payment was taken so it may well have been too late to stop the automatic payment especially if TB hadn't informed anyone that the DD needed cancelling or amending.

Er, actually, it isn't. That wasn't a Direct Debit payment.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

You've made a schoolboy error. Read his post again and see what he was quoting.

I almost made the same mistake.

I still have had no refund and NO CONTACT from the store. I have sent another e-mail and had the same generic response.
