KFC have stolen my money!

I don't usually make a habit of visiting KFC, but I was with some friends that really wanted to go there on Monday so went along. Money is very tight at the moment, so I did not spend much, but when I logged on to view my credit card statement, I noticed I have been significantly overcharged. I expected to pay £3.99, but I have been charged this twice as two separate transactions.

I called the branch in question and they said I would have to wait until the end of the day, when the manager would look into the issue and call me back. Guess what, nothing!

I have e-mailed customer services telling them that they owe me the money, but nothing has appeared on my statement. All I have had is a generic cut and paste response. I tried posting on their Facebook page, but didn't even get a response! They have kept money that isn't theirs for three days now! There must be some sort of action I can take to force them to return the money?

    Wow! Three whole days... outrageous!

No, no-one has stolen your money. A mistake has been made. That's all.

You need to call at the branch again and insist that you only made the one purchase and not the two they have taken for.

Admittedly that may not achieve the instant result you seem to be looking for, but it is worth keeping in mind that even if they had refunded you instantly, it is entirely possible that you would not see that money in your account for at least a week.

Do you know that today is a Bank Holiday?

Even if they had given you a full refund immediately it wouldn't be in your account by now. It takes several days for a card payment to 'clear' in either direction, and of course today is a bank holiday.

Have they confirmed they have/will refund the payment?

I thought kfc were all franchises.... so would of thought emailing would be a fruitless exercise... for quicker results go back in and show them a copy of your bank statement.
  • You'll spend more in the calls you are making than the refund is worth but hey ho.

Have you tried calling your bank? they may be able to reverse the duplicate charge.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Oh no, it's 3 days later in a major UK holiday and they haven't sorted it out.
    Seriously?

You need to report it to the police

They can then go ahead and arrest all the staff on suspicion of theft and start questioning them

The will also be able to get a forensic team in to remove their computer systems and start going through the hard drives with a fine tooth comb to get evidence.

The above should only take about 6 months. They will then be in a position to press charges. When the case comes to court the judge will be able to order the offender to repay you in addition to any fine/goal sentence awarded to the nefarious miscreant.

I reckon you should get your money back before the end of the year if you are lucky. However this could be delayed if an appeal is lodged.

    This made me laugh. :rotfl:

Seriously OP. The money will probably drop back into your account by Tuesday. And £3.99? I have been down in the dumps financially in the past, sometimes quite badly, but I can honestly say that having £3.99 'robbed' from me would not have had much of an affect on my finances.
No debt left now. Saved £111 in our sealed pot last year. And £272.13 this year! Also we have £2300 in savings. :j

    SPC #468 :D Target £250 for 2015.

But reading the OP's other posts, it does look like he will have some heavy expenditure fairly soon.

And if he is considering getting the police involved, best to choose carefully which station to report the theft to. ;)
