  • Hi all, hope you don't mind me pitching in but feel I will be a lot better with some moral support.
Been a tough year, myself and my sons mum have agreed to split up for good as we seem to get on a lot better that way, so first step for me is getting my own place, which I should get a decision on within next 7 days.

My goals won't be easy as I've got an interview to go from Self Employed to employed with a company, which will mean working a month in hand with no wages at all but it's something I really want to do and it will give me security in the long term and better chances of a mortgage which is my ultimate goal by end of 2016. Chuck into that both my sons birthdays this month means it's going to be tight! Lol anyway here's my goals for the year

    1) move into my own rented flat
    2) Have one date per month
    3) take my sons on holiday
    4) continue to have my sons 3 times a week, but try cooking for them rather than eating out or just buying food from shops etc I feel this will save me £150 per month easily
    5) not spend as much money on expensive days out with them when we have just as much fun kicking a ball around all day, again saving around £150-200 per month
    6) Save £12k towards deposit for first home (this is massive for me, always been my dream)

Sorry to ramble on but it's strangely soothing "talking" to you all about this as I'm sure you all know us men don't really talk about this to each other.

Thanks all and I look forward to seeing all your success and working towards my own.

    Lee

Hi Lee the Plumber - welcome aboard. It's great to have you here with us on this journey. I think your goals are fab, especially 4 and 5 - your time with your sons will be the most precious thing ever to them!

Come on here and ramble all you want - we will provide moral support all the way - we all need it!!

I might need some parenting advice from you and others soon enough!!

  • I normally update on a Sunday but have been away for the weekend so here is my first 'Sunday' update of the new year...

    Here goes.....

    My goals for 2015

    • Pay off 2 credit cards, 1 loan and £5,000 of debt.
    • Save £50 per month for emergency fund. £50 saved.
    • Sort out mortgage. Awaiting decision from Halifax.
    • Finish Mini NYD nursery. Decorator has been today to paint, gloss and prime! It's looking good!!
    • Begin Mini NYD memory book (got the book, just need to start).
    • Go away for our first weekend/mini break/week as a family in October 2015 paid for by cash, not credit.
    • Write business and marketing plan for life coaching business with clear milestones, to start in April 2016.
    • Spend quality time with my daughter when on maternity leave, make an effort to go to classes, walks and activities and not dwell on things that don’t matter (as much) e.g losing weight and getting fit.
    • Continue to support my dad 100%, research rehabilitation techniques and never give up hope. Have been with him this weekend, he is 65 today. It's been difficult seeing him struggle so much (for those that don't know - he took a massive stroke in April 2014 despite being extremely fit and healthy). I bought him a kindle fire and audio books and speech therapy books. He seems to be taking to it well.
    • Read 4 more books that expand my thinking.
    • Read the influence blog and apply it to my professional life.

  • ]Hi, I look at this site every now and again and get inspired by it and I thought I would join this thread and try to organise myself this year.
I liked Symphonie's post, I identified with frittering money away on chocolate, coffees and magazines.
    So My goals for 2015
    1. Keep a record of my spending and get in control of my money Have been tracking money and got an app on my phone for this
    2. Meal plan to save money and eat more healthily weekly shop done at Lidl and meals sorted for the week
    3. Transfer CC to 0% balance and pay off (£2000 ish)
    4. Run a 10K in under 60 minutes
    5. Cancel credit cards I don't use Done
    6. Post a SOA on MSE
    7. Remember everyone's birthday this year, cards and presents bought for Januarys birthdays
    8. Sort the house out, DIY projects etc tidied a bit and did some painting
    9. Declutter house and shed took a chair to the dump
    10. sell stuff on ebay & Gumtree Have taken photos of stuff will put it up later
    I'm getting there
  • First time I've done this, thought I'd join in.

    Financial

    - Save enough to pay off two remaining credit card balances as they approach end of deals (£1.4K on 0% til May, £1.7K on 0% til October)
    - Use any "unexpected" income over budget towards above goal or saving (worked Boxing Day + New Year's Day so picked up 2x full overtime shifts)
    - Assuming those two credit cards are paid off (my budget suggests shouldn't be a problem, having paid off more than that in the six months since LBM), then rebuild emergency savings pot
    - Finally sign up for YNAB and see what everyone keeps banging on about

    Non-financial

    - Not let any of the above stress me out too much or detract from quality of life or fret if an unexpected expense crops up. I have the leeway to keep my gym membership or go out for a (reasonably-priced) meal when I want, and if it puts the debt-free moment back a month so be it.
    - I currently have "acting senior" in my job title due to a colleague being off on maternity leave. Hope to lose the "acting" but keep "senior".

    Hi,
    I'd like to join in.
my goals for this year are:
1, to clear one credit card, curently at £3021.00.
2, to be more money aware, and save whatever I can.
3, no more takeaways, just because I can't be bothered to cook.
4, be more assertive, and not let my mother get under my skin.
    5, get more sleep.
6, finally be thankful for everything I have.
look forward to reading on eveyones progress. Xxx
    One step at a time:
    CC1 £6633.00 so far 28% paid.
  • Aims for 2015:

    - We would like to see our debts have a real good amount taken off them. We are looking to pay about £6000 at least, hopefully made easier by....(next point)
    - Get a part time job to help cut debt to go alongside current job.
    - Continue (and not open the tin!) with doing a first time '£1 a day' challenge.
    - Stick to our healthy eating plan and cycling plan.
    - Plan everything a little better (making sure things are done in time and not so much of a last minute thing).
    - Continue to have a positive outlook with daily life and be thankful of everything we have.

Good luck to all and have a wonderful 2015.
