Haven't been on MSE for a while but have continued to de-clutter. For some reason my mind set has changed for the best. I have started to give books away and even decide in the middle of reading whether or not I'm going to keep the book! When we went on holiday we left a much more spacious house behind - although the loft and a cupboard still needed sorting.
Our luggage was too heavy when we went on holiday so we decided not to take everything back with us. OH commented that it was like a game and we quite enjoyed it. We left toiletries, books, puzzle books and even clothes. I realized that I'd packed clothes that I only take on holiday, don't wear and don't like. Rather than bring them home for the charity shop, we left them behind. It really made us think about the cost of owning too much stuff -financially and emotionally.
Since we've been back we've taken lots to the charity shop and OH has even cleared out one side of his wardrobe which has enabled me to move some stuff out of the spare room. The plan is to go through the loft so that I can store some books and DVDs up there to make more room in the house. The loft is insulated and carpeted so I want it to look like a room rather than a junk shop!
Sorry for the long post but seeing your lists has helped keep the motivation up!
Happy de-cluttering everyone!0 -
Last night I sorted out my purse. Shredded lots of receipts and some out of date vouchers. 1 more pair of shoes have gone into the charity bag.
OH has dealt with all the paperwork that was spread out on top of the sideboard in the living room, this makes the room looking so much better. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Back from holiday, while there I used up some toiletries, so recycled the containers. Read 3 books so they are going in the Cs bag, and I threw a bra away that was past its best. (don't know why I took it!)SPC~12 ot 124

11. Magazine sold and posted
12. Old calendar into recycling
13. Cracked plastic measuring jug into recycling
14 - 18. Cardboard boxes to sister for her house move
19. Dog chewed teddy into bin
Helped sister and her boyfriend move house last Saturday, so didn't manage to drop the bags off at the charity shop.
Someone is due to collect the unwanted display cabinet tomorrow. I am really hoping they do turn up and take it off my hands, otherwise I am going to break it up, which seems a shame.0
