2015 - No Clutter To Be Seen

225. I'm thinking of getting rid of the iron as I never use it. Maybe to m-i-l.
Is this the only iron you have,115K ?
I only use mine once in a blue moon:o but wouldn't want to not have one in the house 'just in case'. Not clutter IMO but we're all different in what we think of as essential. It certainly doesn't 'bring me joy', Maria Kondo style, though:rotfl:0 -

Yes, but I genuinely don't use it as I don't buy clothes that need ironing. I think I did use it once to iron a curtain when I washed it but it was still creased afterwards. I think I will just buy a decent new iron if and when I ever need it.:DHOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I thoroughly recommend getting rid of your iron! I left the iron and ironing board with my ex when we split up over a year ago, and have never needed to iron anything since. Think I used it twice in the six years prior to that.
For anyone wondering how to live without an iron... I take the stuff out of the machine as soon as the cycle ends and then put it on the line. In bad weather it goes onto coat hangers, clothes airer or I fold it and leave it in the basket if I don't have any drying space left. I got rid of all of my easily creasing clothes. If any do look a little creased, I hang them up in the bathroom while I have a shower.
If I really did need to iron something, I would borrow one.
Oops, I am on MSE when I should be sorting through cardboard boxes.0 -
I know where you're coming from re: ironing, Callisto.
I do just what you advise with washing etc. OH buys shirts etc that look like a real mess of creases when they come out of the packet so they definitely need a bit of an iron. Lots of things that come packaged (bedding etc) looks a lot better for a quick iron too IMO. Tried the 'hanging in bathroom' method but our water is barely lukewarm so doesn't generate much steam!
Plus (and why I'll never be a true declutterer:o) I use mine to smooth out fold-creases on wrapping paper from gifts so I can use it again. And lots of other ways to recycle used stuff for my own use. I'll never be a real declutterer like the brilliant people on here whilst I'm so skint:eek:. I'm in awe with every post I read, you're all so brave:A0 -
