  • Definately money better spent than on Easter eggs! Glad you all enjoyed it. You need these little treats every now and then - I find they help keep me on track(ish) and stop me feeling so deprived! Happy Easter x

Beautiful sunny day here today, really warm t-shirt weather.
Fed and turned out, still onto yard, and then mucked out. DH washed out monkey ponys stable (a bit manky) and then watched the grooming session. Lots of huge fake moustaches, so funny :)

Then up for a cuppa, pegged out 3 loads of washing, which dried easily and is just having an air on radiators and airing cupboard for half hour.

Mum and me scrubbed moss and weeds from joins in the patio, then lunch, DH worked on DD's car, I weeded the borders around the patio and swept up.

Then front lawns all cut, half the back lawn cut, too much for one day lol
Put some sand into our veg beds to break up the clay chunks a but more, then DH dug them over, looking much better now. The fruit bushes are all sprouting and looking happy, my lavender has sprouted and hopefully will be in post in a few weeks. Bought tomato and cucumber seeds which will go in tomorrow. Need to get runner beans on the go and potatos as well. The ground has been way to wet for potatos but is drying up nicely.

Then tonight, DH and I brought in the horses and re rugged them and fed them. Cleaned the yard ready for the morning. We decided to take the doggies for a walk down the fields to check fencing etc. and pleasantly surprised only need one strand of barb wire in one area about 6 metres or so, and I'm going to put wire along the bottom of one gate to stop them pawing at next doors horses and getting their legs through the gate. Not bad really in terms of repairs required, chuffed.

Grass is beginning to grow nicely but fertiliser going on probably Tuesday, so fingers crossed we have a hay field within weeks :)

Monkey pony is going to mooch around the m!nage all summer where there is plenty of grass nit nothing too rich, he can have a blast down the bigger fields with the rest of them initially to get his winter energy out and then will probably appreciate a bit of peace and quiet.

I've been thinking! O oh look out lol! I might get ducks?? Nice eggs, friendly and they can roam round the yard and garden to their hearts content, a little chicken house for the night........just a thought :)

Have a lovely bank holiday Monday x

    Beautiful day again :):):)
Changed bed waiting for the machine to stop. Mushrooms going over so into the freezer with them later.
Really want to put the horses on the bottom field as it is probably firm enough, but DD much more sensible than me and said Mum come on we need shoes left on for the show on Saturday, so grudgingly put them on the yard :(
Going to sow tomatoes and cucumbers later, a day for relaxing x

Spent last few days spreading calcifert over the fields, have spread 600kg so far another 600kg to go. Hoping that the grass will grow like our lawn now lol.
Monkey pony wont be able to go on it he will be restricted to grazing menage banks and the smaller area outside the yard, about 3/4 of an acre in all but of suitable grass for a laminitc. He will be happy as he is more of a mooching goat than a horse :)
Went to the farmshop for more probed and saw on the reduced list 9 bales of damp sawdust. Well I went into the warehouse to have a look at it and it was very damp. It was £3 a bale reduced last few weeks and today was £2 a bale. DD was with me and said very eloquently (he he) flipping heck one pee on that and it would be ruined, no we'll leave it thanks! The warehouse manager said ok if I make it cheaper will you take all £9 bales? I said how cheap, he said a £5 for it all?? Well me and DD couldn't throw it in the boot quick enough lol! Just about survived the bollocking from DH about the car suspension being on the floor (lol). So 5 bags are great hardly even damp and the other 4 we have spread out in a stable and turned a few times, and hey presto dry!
Best bedding, cheapest price i've ever had, if only I could do that every week :)
So DD has made a banana cake tonight, yum yum, and we, although very tired, avoided the chip shop and went to co-op and bought rolls and salad, so nice ham salad rolls for half the price of the chippie and bought a reduced bag of Cadbury chocolate bars so all in all a nice tea and half the price :)
Have done my figures and I am still going to clear the overdraught this month, fingers so tightly crossed, i'm going to need to eat out of the freezer but since I left the door partially open last week, it does need defrosting because the ice is overtaking, luckily no food was ruined.
Greenhouse is great, have sown, tomatos, cucumbers, parsley and basil. Also sown runner beans 18 so far will do the rest in a week or so. Midsomer murders is on now but they are all watching Transformers, get a life! lol, so i'm recording Midsomer ;)
Oh the bigger one decided that the mares were in season today so lets rear to our full height and run back and snap lead ropes and ....anyway DD not impressed, called him a ****ing ***h***, considering he is her prince he must have been very naughty. My mare as usual is causing all the trouble, roll on the next few weeks and they can go out!!!!!!
Second thoughts may put them out on sunday if still dry :)
Hope everyone is ok and enjoying the sun,
    Have a lovely evening x

Not a good result points wise at the show. Erratic judging to say the least, s**t to be exact! occasionally we get stuck with one who wouldn't know her !!! from her elbow :( strop over :). Anyway very well behaved boy considering how he was yesterday, and all of them had a lovely run down the fields, bucking and squealing, rolling having a ball.

A lovely friend of DS has lost his job so I asked him to plumb the last two auto waters in for me, he came today and it was all done when I got home, bliss! On top of that he had put an outside tap on the side of the barn next to my veg patch, so all much more convenient. In the past I have taken water from rivers, carried it from wells so the horses can drink, here we have a tap and hose in each stable block, inside the main barn alongside the hook up for the lorry (which is fab in itself) and now an outside one as well. All those years of grind has definitely paid off :)

Almost got to the show and back on my third of a tank but 2 miles from home the light came on and I didn't want to risk it, so had to go into a more expensive petrol station, so I just put £20 to get me home.

    Night x

Busy last few days, not much spending have decided to try to take £50 a week for food, still on my first £50 that is meant to last me the month this time, so considering nearly half way through not bad :)
Still plenty of meals in freezer, really need to buy a sack of potatos instead of little bags from supermarkets.
Horses all fine, saddle check on Monday, lots more muscle has been put on, different girth to try, looking better around. Lesson here for DD yesterday, I missed it due to contracts :( but DD said is was great x

Hiya - just caught up! What a fabulous amount of lovliness of time since I last caught up. You work so hard on the farm you have there and I definitely think you need to get ducks! They are on our list for when we get our place in a couple of years :)

Glad the horses are doing well. We have to hold out until the first week in May at our place for the fields. They are spraying them this week for weed control and obviously we can't get out for a couple of weeks after they have done that.

Bargain price for shavings too and lol at the barb wire on the gates, I mean chicken wire lol.

This week should be a little bit quieter. I have a migraine receding at the moment, woke up with it this morning so still in bed :(
I hate them! I can't speak, I get numb arms and face and zonk out for hours, luckily over the years DH has learned to understand the way I speak so I don't feel so scared when I'm having one.
I can't wait till the end of April, I've been so,busy this month with contracts that I reckon I am really close to my goal of paying off my overdraft, as long as the payments I'm expecting come through before the first. DH drawings come through on first and I don't count them in this month, they go in May.
DH and my mum had a row yesterday which stressed me right out, probably why I had my migraine, anyway he's just told me they've made up, phew :)
The horses have been out during the day all week, absolute bliss!!!
Greenhouse is doing great, 18 runner beans up, 6 cucumbers, basil, lavender ummm can't remember what else at mo!
The weather here is absolutely stunning, a pleasure to get up. Well normally that is....
Anyway altering my spelling constantly at the mo as my head is still wrong so going back to sleep :)
