Had my Approved Foods order arrive, it was still showing as 'being picked' this morning so that was a surprise. A little sachet of gravy and a small pot of cider and blue cheese dressing didn't make it. There wasn't much mess and the boxes will come in handy for DS moving out.

Jam making day today. The fruit and sugar has been macerating overnight so everything is ready to go. Today is also deep clean the dining room day, and if I get a bit of time I might have another go at the weeds out front. They're particularly stubborn and seem to re-appear on a daily basis. I also need to make a shopping list for when my parents are here to get in some food for them over the weekend.

    .

Jackie, can't you buy a pair of normal jeans and make shorts out of them for one of your gs and use the cut off legs as patches? That would be win-win.

    QUOTE]
Good idea, the boys like what I call half mast shorts which end halfway down their legs :):):)but the bottom bits would be fine for patching.

My DGS Danny turned up with all the ingredients and made me a fantastic dinner ,he turned into a really good cook, but his G/f Hayley has a lot to do with that as she has over the past two years changed him from living on junk food to eating different sorts of food that he probably wouldn't have tried before.
His guacomole was delicious and I have half a bowl left in my fridge He's not mastered to act of portion control yet though, so when he buys stuff he always buys too much :D
    In my fridge I have

    half an avocado
Half a large tub of soured cream
    a yellow pepper
    a small tub of salsa
    half a bowl of guacomole
and two tortillas.I need some ideas to use it all up :) altough I do have a box of halloumi cheese with sweet pepper that I could use to make a wrap I guess its the soured cream that I need to think, apart from wraps ,what could I use it in:)
Great evening as he is good company and we just nattered until almost midnight. How he got up for work this morning I don't know as he works in the city and has to be out of the house by 6.15-30:D still he is off to a greek island next week on holiday so he will catch up then I guess.
Nice day ahead by the looks of things .I have my history club this afternoon so not a lot of MD&M today.
hope everyone has a good day what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO xxx

Hi All - beautiful day here again.
Re: Jeans - I turn old ones into shorts and always keep the back of the leg bit for patches as that's hardly worn
Unfortunately today my freezer has gone on the blink. Managed to squirrel most of it into the garage freezer but just had to throw away 3 tubs of ice cream :(
Trying to source a second hand freezer 'cos kitchen is being redone next year & I don't want to buy one that wont fit. DH has the grumps 'cos he's re-sited my utility sink and its got a leak - but apart from that all is fine ;)
Sail yesterday went really well - I'd said I was nervous but that was an understatement lol I was bricking it! However, engine started correctly, sea-cocks opened, manoevered off the pontoon very gently and motored with the foresail up across the harbour. Anchored in a small bay and had coffee & biccy's with the 'crew' came back and put her on the mooring with no problem & closed everything down. Its definitely made me feel a bit more confident and I shall try to do a bit more with the other ladies - I'll be a sailor yet!
Fuddle - I know you are interested. A lot of the sailing clubs are more than happy to teach and show you the ropes. Its worth enquiring even if its just for future reference.
Off to the gym & dragging DS1 with me as he's slacking & buy some sugar to make raspberry & blackcurrant jam from last years produce that I found in the garage freezer (note to self - must do better!)
    Have a good day all

Silvasava I've still got blackberries in the freezer from last year:p

However--this year's strawberries are all neatly tucked away in their jam jars. Had a bit on some toast and it is lush. :D

JackiO--I often enjoy half a sliced avocado on a salad or on the side with a sprinkle of salt or a squeeze of lemon/lime. As for the salsa/soured cream etc. all of it is nice as a topping for a veggie chilli or to add some flavour to a bean and rice bowl. Your grandson sounds a real gem--a credit to you and his parents.

    Jackie - sour cream ideas:

    - top chilli (veg or meat) or use instead of yoghurt to top a curry
    - add to goulash to make creamy (or use in pasta sauce or curry instead of adding cream)
    - use instead of mayo inside your wraps to make salad wraps (or roast some veg tossed in chilli/spices and have them with the wraps and soured cream
    - mix in chives and grated cheese to make a dip

That's all I can think of right now but sure there's more!

    Evening mates!

Must tell you my good news - little car passed MOT :j :j

So it will cost me £40 (already saved up for!) + £120 worth of stuff that needs doing :j + £30 for a service but the later two dont need doing till late August - by which time i will have saved at least that much (had £90 put to one side for car stuff already!) I have such a brilliant friend who runs an auto electrical business and gets stuff done as cheap as he can for me. :A (I did his missis a few favours years ago and they dont forget - bless em!)

Jackie O - really lovely thing to do with sour cream is to have with chives on top of Jacket Potato and sour cream is used in a lot of continental cake recipes. Also often served with streusel !

Back on NSD today (apart from paying for my MOT but that is a different pot which is saved for each month so that I always have 'car' money available - I put £30 aside which covers it all + some) - so made choccy chip cookies cos a friend came round and had a 'fry up' main meal - its a Sl!mming World recipe for a breakfast salad (sounds mad but its v yum and satisfies my longing for a fry up!!)

At this time of year I really miss my raspberry canes and making my own jam :( but the garden (which is quite small) is getting challenging for me now - and keeps on threatening to run away with me!! Never mind! At least I have brilliant memories of having that in my life. :)
Frugalling on tomorrow! Hope good for you folks too
