Easiest cheapest 'cheats cheescake' known to womankind (well me anyway) is to take a digestive biscuit (cheapest of the cheap is fine) spread liberally with soft cheese, whatever you have but obviously NOT garlic and herb, it works with full fat right down to quark, sprinkle on some sweetener of choice and top with whatever fresh fruit that you have in the house. Brilliant time saver, kids can make thier own and everyone can use different fruit if you happen to have it in, winner!!!
FUDDLE most supermarkets sell a carton of BUTTERMILK for under 75p. It's usually with things like creme fraiche/fromage frais. I know they stock it in T*sco and A*da, might be worth buying a trial carton to taste in case the girls don't like it?
Buttermilk is used to make soda bread and scones and scotch pancakes.
Just had a look online for ICE CREAM CONE recipes, found one that looks easy at https://www.joyofbaking.com recipe to search for 'ICE CREAM CONES' thier recipe makes 8, hope that helps, Lyn xxx.0 -
Enjoy your meet up today ladies...hope have a lovely time with lots of laughs0

Hi Fuddle
Have you thought about making your own. The girls can help, I used to do this when I helped with linking food and getting kids on farms.
Take some double cream. Put some in a jar (lid on or it gets messy)and get the kids to shake, shake and shake some more. Eventually you get butter as solid and buttermilk. You can then use both for different things (butter needs to be used fairly quickly, unless you wash it) Double cream is often reduced in my supermarket so I still do this with my friends kids when I babysit them.
Somewhere I may have a fact sheet about it....I will have a hunt over the weekend.
S x£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Thanks for the cream/buttermilk/butter info. I think we'll make it just because they showed an interest in the process but I am not a buttermilk fan so I hope they will be. If not we'll have a bit of butter.
I will have a look at the recipes! If I can make a cone that will blow the school yard lollies out of the water and I might be super cool mam for a bit
I did have a fail today. I made some soft burger buns, added an egg for enriched dough soft bun but they didn't rise. I am wondering if yeast has a shelf life? Mine is from before I moved so probably at least 2 year old :cool:0 -
It definitely does FUDS, if it's a bit old you don't get the rise you did with it. You're a super cool Mam already, this would give you SPARKLES too!!!0

Oh dear  Never mind at least I know how to bake soft rolls now. They had potential, just were stodgy :rotfl:
Many would say the sparkles come from the wiry grey strands amongst the brunette but thank you. I am trying... very trying :rotfl:0 -
I haven't bought cones for a while now - since I discovered the grandkids think its the height of sophistication to have their ice-cream served in wine glasses with a dollop of nutttella, some toffee sauce and a sprinkling of chopped nuts (you can very this with jam or fruit puree, and crumbled up Flaked choc or sprinkles). oh and you can add a finger of Kitkat or a strawberry or anything - the girls like to make up their own combos now - one of them likes peanut butter and jam in their ''Sundaes'.0

Hi,
My computer is working today - fingers crossed - So I hope I can post without it failing to respond, a script error, or just going on strike and refusing to move anything anywhere.
Good luck with the allotments one and all. I used to love growing all my own veg but when I thought of how much I spent on various aids to get good crops and all the stuff to deter all the pesties that I was afflicted with from time to time I decided that in future my veg would come from the Farmer's Market and I would be spared the time and trouble of feeding slugs. They don't make good pets anyway. Nothing to do with me getting old, tired, stiff and lazy. Of course not.
The best book I ever had about veg growing was called "The Vegetable Garden Displayed". It was donated to me by my Dad and is quite old fashioned but very informative. My copy is well battered and shabby but I think you may still be able to get it.
The Rev has been out for the day so I have had a cleaning day. Started by cleaning the oven, (UGH! UGH! and triple UGH!) and cleaned the kitchen windows, the spice and herb cupboard, the disgusting cleaning cupboard, microwave, fridge and cupboard doors. Feel very virtuous.
Hope all who met up today had a wonderful, giggly time.
I'm being summoned, apparently Emmerdale is about to start.

Hello everyone, hope those going to the meet had a lovely time, look forward to hearing all your stories.
fuddle, you're doing a grand job. My DD (22) can shop carefully and make all her meals from scratch, so glad as she is just looking for a flat of her own. My DSs (26 & 27) are also good cooks and all of them love a bargain! Far better that they understand and enjoy making their food.
Just had a bottom of the fridge curry that was very tasty but did treat myself to some poppodoms.
vulpix, you are in my idea of hell, I have sworn that I will never move again, the stress was too much. How long now till you move?
Have a good weekend everyone.0 -
I cant wait to hear how the meets went!0
