Some customers can just be rude and unpleasant. And like you say they don't realise you are not a robot but a person with feelings too. Annoying thing is one interaction like that makes you forget the 5 or 6 lovely ones that happen in the same day." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

I shall be glad when this week is over to be honest.
It was a bity day yesterday, which I expected.
I had several sewing jobs that should have been easy but they weren't. All were sewing with jersey fabrics.
They took me ages, and they just weren't simple. The third was a t shirt that needed shortening. Normally a 15 minute job. 2 1/2 hours!! The machine decided it just didn't like it and as I use triple stitch on stretch fabric it took a month of Sundays unpicking it, and re doing it.
I had to strip down the overlocker, and clean all the fluff and fabric out. You would be amazed at the amount of fluff inside it.
But at least it has a new blade and is ready to go again.
There was a steady stream of people in and out all day. Collecting and dropping off alterations, enquiries, and some sales from our stand.
The last overlocker that was ordered has been paid for, and the lady has booked onto the overlocking sewing course in a week or two.
The shelves my new lady found at the recycling centre are up, and my helper organised it all in colours etc, and tidied up the fabrics. It looks really good! But shows me I have acquired a lot of fabrics in the last year or so. The embarrassing part is that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is still bags etc in the store cupboard, there, and here at home.
I really need to start my makes again.
The sewing pattern account is being set up, and with any luck it will be with us soon. The shop is evolving.
On the good side, the wages are now being paid as we go along each week, and yesterday by the time we banked there was already £1,000 plus in the account, so that is this months rent coming, the electric, and the phone bill.
The rest of the money will be in and out for stock purchases, zips etc, Consumables, with in the alterations.
So we are steadily increasing our take, week on week.
DS seems to have sorted his bike ( for now anyway). So I got an extra hour in bed. DGD is still asleep, as we went to the pub for tea with another Mum and her little boy, so it was a later bed time.
Time for a bath this morning, before copious amounts of creams applied.
But it's helping. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
could you just sell your spare fabric (less stress!)0

I worked in an office for almost 30 years and only had to deal with 2 rude clients in all that time. I then worked part time in retail for 5 years and hated most of it. I never realised people could be so rude until I worked in a shop. Some people think you must be thick and that is all you can do.The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I tend to be quite thick skinned with rude customers (I pretend not to notice and kill them with kindness-it throws them
) but I had one this week that I had to take myself off calls to regroup. The woman had admitted mental health issues (part of her complaint was that as her local telephone exchange had gone down she'd probably missed a call from her psychiatrist) but she really was utterly vile and abusive. My boss (who listens to my calls to QA them from time to time) commented it must have been really bad as she knows I can deal with just about anything - even the totally unreasonable and the screaming banshees
It can really mess with your head for the rest of the day if you can't stick the memory in a box and shut it away.

Hi Mooloo,
Well done on the shop running so well.
How about encouraging DS to look for a pedal cycle to keep as a back up for the next time his motor bike is off road. Not ideal transport but at least then he can be self sufficient when you are busy.
My husbands motorbike seems to be off-road regularly for various reasons and the repair shops seem to take much longer than I am used to when waiting for car repairs. I think they work on the principle that most motorbikes belong to car owners but of course this often isn't the case.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
You are doing so well Mooloo with the shop: despite all you are coping with, and often not feeling that well. Just wanted to say a very big well done.
Hope the creams continue to conquer the skin issue - I appreciate from experience the hell of severely itching skin all over.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Well today is finally finished.
At least the work is. It was either really busy and full of people, or empty and very quiet. But on the whole not a bad day.
But I stopped off at Mr T for a few bits and ended up spending £45 - oops
I must do better and get my menu plan back on track.
Thanks for all the comments about rude customers. I don't normally get upset, I think it was just as I was in the middle of a "moment" as I was moving my Dad's clothes into the shop.
I have decided to keep his hat. - for me.
So I wore it home today.
It was really funny, about 2.30 this man came in and asked if we had any plates for sale. My staff was about to say sorry no we are a clothes shop, when I remembered a pile of plates I had bought at the charity shop last year and didn't take home because I was given a set for a present. So I said actually i do. Ran upstairs and grabbed them. Sold them to him for £4
So another satisfied customer! Ha ha.
Staff said, I never cease to amaze her!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Duchy & Catkins -it is so true. Sometimes customers behave like you've ruined their day if you can't offer something they want. Grrrrr. ..Mooloo -well done on the plates! I always try and offer an alternative if I don't have what the want but that's inspired." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Look at the time!
I spent the morning doing the back garden. And when DGD went to messy church with my friend I went for a walk around the town. And Brackley Antique celler. Resisted spending.
Then this evening I have finally started to get the filing etc and accounts in order. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
