  • Jellytot has her porridge with a touch of golden syrup ;) rot her teeth it may but it doesn't half get more down her neck in one sitting than 5 attempts at any other cereal. her porridge is made with soya milk :) which can leave it a tad sour tasting.

Porridge pancakes meanwhile... I've heard it all now. xx

My mum used to make our breakfast porridge in a big aluminium saucepan and we'd have a huge spoon of golden syrup on it. Delicious. :)

Try rice milk instead of soya. It's naturally slightly sweet, and lighter than soya too.

I soak porridge (in rice milk) or muesli (in yogurt) overnight if I'm being organised. It saves decisions in the morning as breakfast is already half done.

    Good Morning :hello:

Well. Is the future of the British Oat industry ever assured - given the porridge gannets that have congregated on here??? :D:D:D

Upsidedown Bear - timing and smilie - did you have a rough night?????

Nargleblast - lovely to *see* ya hun - drop in more often :D

    OK, so dinner last night was Red lentil and Pepper bake - outta the student cookbook. I made it on Friday night, whilst I had the oven on for the pizza. I made the stupid rookie mistake of only reading through the ingredient list, and not the recipe method before I embarked on making it. As half way through, I realised, what I had envisaged as a 'bake' (thinking nut roast/lentil loaf type texture) was actually, more likely going to be a souffle type thing, supposed to be served piping hot out of the oven. *Bother*. So I adapted the recipe on the hoof and whizzed in some toasted porridge oats. I only topped the bake with chopped sunflower and pumpkin seeds too, as I couldn't be bothered with the cheese - plus I thought it may make re-heating difficult. I used frozen chopped peppers in my version, rather than one fresh pepper. It was served with 1/2 a bag of mixed salad leaves from mrL (said 79p on the SEL, but went through the till at 85p and I hadn't got time to pull them up on it :(), and some potato salad - made with tinned potatoes, as I think we've established that they are good for that :D with some red onion and chopped parsley running through. Verdict: DELISH! Definitely a keeper of a recipe - and if I'm feeling brave next time, and cooking to eat straight away, I'll do it as per :D Picture here;

I suspect that it was the 'frying' that made all the difference rtandon - I for sure wouldn't have been brave like teapot2 and done straight porridge with coriander leaves.... but then I'm no fan of straight porridge.....

  • Good Evening :hello:

Upsidedown Bear - I've got music from 'Swan Lake' in my head seeing that smilie - the bit where the 4 cygnets make their entrance - I think it is the bassoon bit at the start that ties in with the way the camel is walking :D

I've come to the decision that I'm going to go on 'gardening leave' from this diary.

I've recently really dropped the ball as far as moving from Greying Towers is concerned. There's been reasons - ie illness, bad weather, lack of pennies, delivery delays etc. But the only way things will change is if we change and we've got to get re-focused and start doing things. We must take advantage of the lighter nights returning and start to really tackle the DIY etc. It requires our full concentration, and I can't stretch myself so thinly that I can make a meaningful contribution to this diary too.

It has also occurred to me that since I started my first diary, we have really instigated some changes here at Greying Towers - and I thought I was thrifty, frugal and make-do-and-mend before I started! So actually, what would be mega helpful, would be a period of consolidation of all the habits/principles and methods that I've learnt over the past 18 months or so. It may also help to settle down things that have been stirred up by kondoing :D Even though I still think I'm cool about it..... and haven't regretted one thing that has exited through the door! :D

So, Upsidedown Bear - thank you for your daily smilies and the delight that they have brought everyone :D

To everyone that has made helpful suggestions, provided links and explained a different way of doing something to me - THANK YOU.

To everyone that has given nothing but support, help and friendship to me and other posters on this thread - THANK YOU.

I really do appreciate it. Greatly.

I'll probably keep popping on to MSE periodically, so I hope to  see y'all around. I just won't be updating here - for the foreseeable future anyway.

    Thank you again.
