    Porridge? eeeeeuuuuuucccccckkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

Oh Mrs. I - that used to be my feeling too, but I too am a convert now!

My favorite way is 1/3 cup oats, 2/3 cup water & 100g frozen blueberries bunged in the microwave for two minutes with a stir half way through - then add a teaspoon of clarified butter, a tablespoon of ground flax or hemp, a tablespoon of nut butter and a tiny squeeze of agave syrup. Dairy free & gluten free - really yummy!:D

My OH says it looks like builder's sludge - it horrifies him & so he makes his own which looks like wallpaper paste to me!

Well..... I tried a wee bit of porridge with some coriander leaves and left the leaves to wilt in the hot porridge and have to say, it tasted like.....................................................porridge and coriander :rotfl:Not an experiment I'd be in a hurry to repeat even if it detoxes as claimed.

Much preferred the rest of the porridge with blueberries, banana and a bit of maple syrup :D
  • Good Afternoon :hello:

teapot2 - thanks for officially *taking one for the team* :D Hmmmm, porridge and coriander leaves...... I wonder if there is scope for such a mix, but not necessarily as portrayed in that post. I was reading Rhonda's blog Down to Earth t'other day and she was talking about the benefits of soaking grains/seeds/nuts etc prior to eating - by her own admission, an *age old* philosophy, but one that I've started utilising in the kitchen at Greying Towers - both for porridge and for bread making (where it is known as autolyse). However, in the comments to Rhonda's post, someone has talked about using leftover (made) porridge into pancakes - could this be where coriander - or any other herb, seasoning or flavouring could come into their own? I was thinking about a savoury porridge pancake with an omelette or something atop it.

I have to say, I am not a fan of porridge per se, but I do/will eat museli - made with porridge oats and whatever 'museli type' ingredients I have to hand - so I eat cold porridge - even more eeeeuuuuuuuwwwwww!!!! :rotfl: And of course, I heard about the 'Bircher museli' - soaking museli overnight - ethos yonks ago. I don't do it, as I don't regularly eat museli for brekkie - would try to get a system going to do it if I did mind.

Upsidedown Bear - thank you for the smilies. I'm not sure what tickles me more about the 'hug' one - the sentiment behind it, or the face of the smilie at the front - always makes me :)

Pippi - nice to *see* you - and thank you for multilingually calling me a *batty 'auld loon* :rotfl: We're so educated on this thread.... :rotfl: And kem10 - I noticed your multilingual post too :D;) How nice of you to cook for your friend - but also, how nice that you have the sort of friends that delight in that sort of *bartership*. I wish our friends were more like that.

Tilly - Hinterland was a bit hit for BBC Wales/BBC. Am I right in saying that the same team that did 'The Killing' were behind it? Some sort of connection like that. Have you caught up with the 'Alaska' series off BBC2? There were 3 episodes - very good indeed - and the little Artic fox in the last episode was just darling - especially when it tried to get some frozen food off a metal digger bucket in -40 temps - it looked very funny :) Oh, and I think out of the chef progs left, I am most going to enjoy Monica's foray into France - looks like nose to tail eating, and make do with what you have, following the seasons - very much your style, eh?

Well, I'd be the first to say that I've achieved *B* all today :( I have been in Bristol - alas, only figuratively and not actually :( Which made me wonder how Brizzle was. Anyone in touch on FB or RL??? I came across some podcasts from a couple and I have to say, if you are a fan of conversation, food, gardening, live (at the time of recording) music, homespun British eccentricity and eclecticism then Bristol Kitchen Radio is the place for you :D I've linked to podcast 1 (gardening, microgreens, local history and live music performances) - there are 23 podcasts in all.

I've also listened to a podcast Mr M0n3y MustAche did too. Nice to put a voice to his blog writings :D

    I'm still feeling discombobulated :(

  • Hi Greying, sorry to hear you remain discombobulated. I'm currently taking baby steps towards a kondoed life and I'm not sure if that's what's behind it but I'm feeling a bit adrift. I'm not even sure if that's the right way to describe it. Maybe it's just another type of LBM that I'm struggling to come to terms with. While I'm not a hoarder compared yo others at mine, I do keep some things just in case. I also struggle to get rid of something that I haven't gotten full value from even if it no longer makes me happy. I think I'm just worried about not having enough at some point whereas I should just worry if it happens iykwim

(Jumps off the lurkers bus for a minute...)

If you are stuck with leftover porridge, just cover it and shove it in the fridge. Next day revamp it with extra liquid and your choice of flavouring, then nuke it in the microwave. Somehow it is that much nicer having been left to fester overnight in the fridge.

Sounds yummy to me. I froze some blueberries the other day and was wondering about the best way to add them - thanks for the tip. :D

(ps have to agree that the coriander is just all wrong :))

  • Jellytot has her porridge with a touch of golden syrup ;) rot her teeth it may but it doesn't half get more down her neck in one sitting than 5 attempts at any other cereal. her porridge is made with soya milk :) which can leave it a tad sour tasting.

Porridge pancakes meanwhile... I've heard it all now. xx
