  • Hello Chums! Today was a really good day and everything seems to have reolved itself. Thank you so much everyone for being so supportive and wonderful. I must pop into INOD's thread to see how her day has gone.

    I love the smilies for today. A gently flying smilie is a happy one!

  • Evening all,

    Not very much to add here as I am feeling distinctly January-ish and can't wait for some warmer weather and daylight!

    However, the news that things have resolved for you Hopefuljoy, a blast from the past with GPs lentil bolognaise, and the news that I have managed to book myself on the mindfulness course starting in March mean that I can retire to bed with a good book and a smile on my face:)

    Stay warm and content everyone.

  • Good Morning :hello:

    just a quick in and out from me.

    Last night did not go to plan at all - however, all is well and all is sorted :D

    So, dinner - which thankfully was half-prepared and underway was Fakes (pronounced 'Fah-kes') soup - a greek recipe. This was for 'Thrifty Tuesday' and I accompanied it with piadiana, into which I put plenty of oregano and onion seed. The soup was ok, it definitely needs the vinegar lift (although I only had white wine vinegar, not red). I'd make it again, as it is pretty simple, but it wasn't the tastiest lentil soup I have ever had. Recipe; Fakes soup Picture;

    Last night I was grateful for;

    folks skills and knowledge;
    being able to borrow things from organisations/individuals;
    pressure cookers!

    Laughing at all the wannabee adoptee chat, however, sorry to disappoint, but I think you have to be an adult to adopt.......... :rotfl: INOD - I laughed out loud at your honesty :D:rotfl:

    Gotta go.

    Thanks for popping in, reading and making me laugh. Appreciated. Always.

    See you all later.

  • Hello all

    Sorry to be a party pooper, but coming from a family full of adoptees, halves and steps, I can say, not only do you need to be an adult to adopt... ;) but you cannot be over 16 if you want to be adopted! ;)

    I'm with INOD. GP can foster me for a few weeks and I shall go home afterwards well fed, full of love and fresh air I am sure ;) and then I shall return to my chilli con carne ;)

    Good Evening :hello:

    Just realised that I have snagged 3 nsd's this week - 'tis a real shame I don't count them anymore :(:rotfl: However, I did spend today, so enough with the self-promotion ;)

    Dear Yoghurt monitor - I have made my third batch of yoghurt for 2015 this evening - fingers crossed it turns out OK. Don't want complacency to set in, but I am finding that using UHT milk suits me so much better in winter. The yoghurt takes minutes to make, and I am building it in to other prep work as I make dinner :T

    We are having to use the CH at the moment, as we had run out of kindling for the fire :( Luckily, DP has sourced a bit of waste wood, with the promise of more to come, so we can go back to using the logburner and turn the heating off over the weekend.

    Dinner last night was - in effect - 'leftovers' so I didn't insult your intelligence by taking a pic. But it was spicy vegetables (a Reza Mohammed recipe) from the freezer, some polenta made up (wet) with some fresh (frozen) coriander stirred through it and because I didn't check what veg was in the main, we had cauliflower to accompany.... the cauli that was in the main veg dish :rotfl: Ah well, think of all the fibre :T It also prompted me to remember that I had forgotten to answer a question that Lilty posed the last time I made polenta - namely, how come it was so smooth? Well, luck mostly :o But a) I stir the cornmeal into the water with a balloon whisk to start, and then change to a silicone spatula once the consistency has changed, b) I stir like h3ll - so you can't really be doing anything else for a little while and c) it always takes more water/stock than you think....... and d) if you leave it for a nanosecond once you've poured it onto the plate/dish - it starts to set :rotfl:

    Tonight's offering, as it is Thursday was, of course...... Buddha Bowl! Another more 'authentic' one tonight, as I used a 'bitta this' and a 'bitta that'. Basically I soaked some cous cous, then ran some cooked onion and red pepper through it, with lots of parsley, basil, oregano and a bit of cinnamon and some orange zest, salt and pepper. Then I grated some beetroot (vac pack from h0me bargins), made some 'mushy peas' using JO's recipe from his 'dinners' book and then made a one egg omelette. Put the whole lot together, so that it resembled a 1970's nightclub interior decor and topped with a spoon of yoghurt and some ubiquitous onion seeds :D Pic here;

    'Twas yummy, decluttered a few bits and wouldn't have cost many pennies :T Winner winner Buddha bowl dinner :T:rotfl:

    I did my menu planner for February last night, so I'm off now to write the corresponding shopping list :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    the restorative nature of birdlife - funny how just spotting one or two birdies flitting about can fill you with joy :D

    for free firewood :j

    for DP prioritising - himself (rather than silly work colleagues) for once.........:j

    Thanks for popping in, reading and furnishing the thread with cheerful smilies. I can't keep up with smilie's marshmallow production line at the moment, until some morning sticks are chopped :D

    See y'all later.
