  • Good Evening :hello:

Igamogam - let us know how you get on with Greg's book :D Lovely to *see* you by the way, I know life get's hectic during term time.....

rtandon - it's a bonus though isn't it? If you can make food colourful and appealing, especially when the weather is a bit drab. Orange is the colour again tonight...... :D

Upsidedown Bear - I have just been watching a film all about clocks...... :D

Well, we didn't get overly much achieved today, DP wasn't feeling well again :( However, we did nip out to L*dl to pick up one or two bits and pieces, and to mrT. I dropped lucky with 3 YS'd bags of fresh coriander, down from 70p to 7p :j and unbeknownst to me, they were on a 3 for 2 promo - so I got them for 14p for the 3 :j I also got a small loaf of wholemeal bread for 24p. It's so rare that I get YS'd stuff for those prices. mrT must really be suffering, they usually knock off tuppence, and have their sneeriest member of staff wielding the labeller, daring you to pick the stuff up, and buy it :rotfl:

Inspired by talk of people making Red Dragon Pie, I figured I'd have a bit of an experiment for dinner. I was going to make brown lentil shepherd's pie, but I thought I would use my mung bean stash instead and have a go at making green dragon pie :D I'm sure someone will probably have a recipe for this already, but I did mine on the basis of what I had in the fridge and cupboard.

    I used leek, garlic and bell pepper in with the (cooked) mung beans as the base, and then topped it off with a mash of; sweet potatoes (thank you mrA), a carrot and some swede - with cinnamon and turmeric added. I made a pretty pattern of dragon 'scales' :rotfl:on top of the pie with a palette knife :D And there you go, a pie was born :D Served with steamed white cabbage, steamed green beans and a roast parsnip, that was us fed :D Picture here;

Very nommy, and more mung beans 'decluttered' :D

No prizes, but can you guess the brewery with the red dragon? A clue is 'intelligence' :D

I've also found a new mung bean recipe that I want to try out on Tuesday night, so I'm looking forward to that :D

We sat and watched the film 'Hugo' that we'd taped off Film4 back in October. It's about an orphan who lives in a clock - in the..... Gard du Nord???? Station in Paris. It was very good. Glad that we taped it :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

for YS'd bargains - now safely stowed in the freezer for another day and another curry :D

for DP being quite thoughtful and logical about future plans - he can be when he wants... just need to encourage him :D

for a good film, watched in great company, for 'free' - and no 'excuse me's' to get to the toilet and noisy sweet wrappers ;)

Thanks so much for popping in, reading and inspiring me to make dishes for us tea. The dish was filling, there is plenty for more portions, it used up what we had (including well priced veggies) and above all; it tasted delish! :D

Oh, and could the yoghurt monitor ;) please note that I bought the ingredients to start yoghurt production later in the week..... watch this space :D

    See y'all later :D

Mindfulness... my DH has signed us up for an 8-week MBSR course (mindfulness based stress reduction) starting 21 January. He's studying Mindfulness via distance learning with Bangor University for a Masters. It has helped him enormously, despite yesterdays PITA. Previously such an event could have lasted a month. Today he's almost back to normal.

Did anyone here the R4 piece on Mindfulness this afternoon? Very disappointingly the reporter was determined not to be receptive, although in the main the contributions were very balanced.

    Happy Sunday.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Hello Greying

Feeling a tad sheepish at your lovely words, and those of someone on my diary earlier. I sometimes wonder if you all could see me sat in my pyjamas at 6pm, twisting my hair round my finger, with my thumb in my mouth, just how grown up you would think I was. Still I suppose it is a blessing to still look about 10 when preoccupied.. less so when the shop won't sell me a 15 rated DVD because I only took my bank card and not my purse with ID. :rotfl:

Happy Sunday indeed. Had some splendid luck and to counter it a bad taste left in my mouth by Mr A (twice over if you count my failure of a dinner with Mr A's YS sweet potatoes ;))

Have a lush end to your Sunday and a lovely nights sleep all xx

I was thinking of what I could post to say hello - found the link- and then thought "Why has GP put a Brains Beer bottle top on her food? Ah, Red Dragon Pie..!"
Yup, Brains. We are too far from Cardiff to find it in many places, though Mr T has it sometimes. My Dad used to drink Brains SA, otherwise known as Skull Attack. (It's really Special Ale, I believe. Never heard it called that though.)

    Mornin' all:D

Pie looks delish Greying, yesterday I too was pondering about Yogurt making, I have the jars and flask thingy for one of those "easie-peasie" yogurt making sets and wondered about skipping buying the sachets and trying to make my own. I think that Miss Border Collie and I would benefit from some, cannot face a journey to Mr T just for one item, but might keep it local and buy some live stuff or a starter from lovely indie health food shop.

And - you were about late, or was it early?:D, I had one of those nights on Saturday, slept like a log from 12:15 to 02:30: and then wide a wake:( dug out my diet and nutrition books and studied for a while (I am going to get flippin well this year, no matter what my body thinks:rotfl:), then went back to zzzzzz for a couple of hours sometime after 05:30, thankfully caught back on sleep last night:j (well not jumping exactly but managed a gentle bounce:D)

Have a good day lovely people, I hope that everyone is safe and not experienced too much damage.

  • Morning, the wind has dropped, and it has dropped me someones fence panel, will check who's it is and let them collect it.
Love the dragon pies and the inspiration to use up 2 sweet potatoes, a leek and a parsnip, (dragon's colcannon?) may tickle the tastebuds of DGS1,
Mindfulness has really taken off, hasn't it? I started doing it with my lovely neighbour/friend last year, and find it very helpful. I can't yet encompass it to my life entirely, but l believe it has improved me (even if just a little)
Today is dedicated to the decluttering fairy, kitchen cupboards look out!

It was late; I slept too much on Sunday. Got up at a reasonable time this morning, although I could have stayed with Morpheus, I have things to do. My DS slept the clock round with a few hours added, but is now looking bright-eyed and bushy tailed for his day off.

Yogurt making activity duly noted ;) I made another, more successful batch on Saturday night, which will hopefully keep going for a couple of months.

Love the green dragon pie, and I'm looking forward to more mung bean recipes. Mind you, I really do need to keep on doing battle with the freezers... 11 visitors over the weekend hardly made a dent in the contents!
  • I also use mindfulness practices to deal with chronic pain. Some days I can manage better than others. Still, a day dealt with mindfully is better than a day doused in pain.

This year I am concentrating on managing my life so I can enjoy, rather than enduring it. So the focus is less clutter, less buying and more awareness of those things that make life harder.
