Hello GP and pals..
My it has been busy in here whilst I have been lying around like a lazybones around work! Dinner as always looking excellent Greying. I have for the first time in my remembrance... run out of cheese. Dire straits in Liltington. I was so busy busy using everything up without a scrap of waste.. it has gone! I was planning a pizza off the back of yours until that!
Marcus Aurelius and I share a birthday. A few years apart mind... :rotfl: - his cosmic perspective is one I am trying to centre on in my own life. Finding my place in the universe. I think I have found it, and thus am happy with my lot. There is a lot to be said for finding peace in who you are, as Hopefuljoy and you too dear Greying show me every day. All I can say is, maybe you listened to that teacher who quoted him at you more than you realise. You are much in alignment with your world..
Much love x

Evening,
Just checking in before a quiet evening of food, reading and listening to music in the company of Mr 7WW
The Mediterranean eating is still going strong: we are probably eating a little bit too much cheese, but hey!
Firewalker: thanks again for introducing us to Essentialism. I have spent a couple of happy lunch breaks reading from the blog. I try only to buy good quality things - but it seems much harder to find them these days. I'm sure there is a strategy amongst the big companies to encourage obsolescence and making things less durable, everything from bed linen to jeans seems to give up the ghost quicker these days. (Oops - I'm turning into my granny!)
I am delighted to report that I went to a Mindfulness taster session during the week. I really enjoyed the teacher and his approach, but alas the next course is not until mid-March, so tomorrow I am going to head along to a drop-in session that they also run to tide me over.
Have a good evening everyone.0 -
Wow - I come on MSE forums to help me focus on clearing my debt and the next thing you know I immersed in philosophical debate around stoic essentialism (Hi have just spend half an hour on Wikipedia to brush up my philosophy) and drooling over Buda bowls!!!
Fantastic!!!
p.s. pizza looks delicious0 -
My vet's pretty reasonable, GP, but this time will be dear because anaesthetic is required.
I worked out ages ago that even with this like this, cat insurance is not worth taking out, as I reckon. I insured my cats for a while then weighed up the pros and cons of whether to continue, or just save for a rainy day. I reckon it could be as much £700, but I'll find out next week.Keep reading books!

Hello my chums! Blimey, Marcus aurelius and stoicism on one thread! Bonzer! I recently read a brilliant book called "philosophy for life and other dangerous pursuits". It's a really accessible hand book of how to use ancient philosophy in everyday modern living. I think a lot of mse folk are really ahead of the game without realising it.
The stoics were clever as they decided that it is pointless to expect people to react differently to things in the future from how they have in the past therefore it is far less frustrating to accept this than to expect them to change. So if my sister has always been a whinger then I am causing myself huge stress expecting her to change. If I either reconcile myself or remove myself from her presence then I am being stoic. They were really sensible!!
I'm not a complete stoic but there is something in it. I recommend the book as it covers all the main philosophical teachers. I get my philosophy A level pupils read it.
Thank you Lilty for your lovely feedback. You are very kind and I hope you are being kind to yourself. Mind your back. I think you are a real trooper!
Greying I hope you will be proud of me this week. I've stuck to my miniscule budget and have a fridge full of ingredients thanks to Mr L and some careful planning. If there is any sort of zombie apocalypse we are fine for the next fortnight! (DD and I are huge fans of the walking dead series!)
I've also done a clothes audit and the only expenses needed for 2015 will be tights and perhaps one pair of shoes. My mum just gave me a black skirt from m&thing which she ferreted out of a sale rack and she refuses any money as I did lots of errands while Dada was ill over Christmas. So I am all kitted out.
You are all so inspiring. I read this and a couple if other threads everyday. I never tire of hearing how you all are! Night night all. XxWith family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Good Morning :hello:
Well, so many visitorsHow lovely of you all to pop in
I'm afraid that I will admit to disappearing yesterday afternoon into the clutches of a 'nana nap' - with DP. That coupled with a good night's sleep last night has done the trick and I'm feeling fully restored
All I need now is the trades description folk to haul me into court for claiming a nana nap when I ain't no nana to nobody

apple muncher - *snort*, I laughed out loud at thatCan just imagine how much fun she has
Lilty - I've always thought it and you've just proved it - a wise head on young shouldersI hope that the cheese crisis in Liltingtonia is rectified asap. Plus I hope that your back pain is easing up. You're a credit to yourself for soldiering on.
7 week wonder - I heartlily agree about the 'planned obsolecence' amongst manufacturersWhy is there such a gap between the mindfulness courses? Is it starting as a unit in March? Or are you supposed to practice in the meantime and 'report back'?
judi - it has to be said, my diary is nothing but eclectic in breadth of topics discussedYep, Buddha bowls are great - if you take the '4 features' framework, you can take them in any taste/texture/cuisine direction you want to - or, alternatively, plonk a whole heap of leftovers together, and call it 'tea' - very :money::rotfl::rotfl:
wishus - seems a lot of folk are ditching the insurance in favour of establishing their own emergency fund - especially as their pets begin to age.
Hopefuljoy - always proud of you hun'You're making that budget squeak! No mistake
I'm trying to marshall mine with the same lazer focus - anything that I can save this month will help with a possible shortfall next........
So, [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] I had plans to try out a super walk today, in one of my favourite areas. But the weather put paid to that. It has calmed down a lot, but it's quite a car ride, and there may well be blockages/trees down etc, so it is not worth the risk. I really could do with blasting some cobwebs out of my system thoughMaybe next week. Fingers crossed.
I did do some decluttering and tidying yesterday, before I succumbed to the arms of my duvet. The space around the computer is now tidy and 'business like' (Firewalker would probably approve:D) I need to sort out some of the recipes that I know that I have made and want to keep - so they must be transferred to the recipe index, rather than sit around as print outs!
I didn't go out anywhere yesterday, so claim a nsd - even though I ain't countingI am thinking that 'mindful' spending within my budget is working better for me, but early days, early days......
Dinner last night was veggie scrapple, baked potato, winter slaw, broccoli and carrots. I hadn't intended to use the carrots, but when I got the broccoli out, there weren't many 'big' florets in the bag (frozen) so I figured that I could probably use what was left better in a different dish, so I made up the shortfall in the baby carrots (again, frozen) that I had bought for the afghan carrot hot-pot. And mothernerd will be proud of me, as I made the winter slaw entirely with the last of the Turkish yoghurt and with no mayo in it at all. And whilst the yoghurt is full-fat, I didn't add extra additives with the mayoI used red and white cabbage, celery and carrots in the slaw, with celery and caraway seeds, salt and pepper added. It was lush
The veggie scrapple is a dish that I have made before. It is really simple (although you do cook it twice - so best made a day ahead) and infinitely adaptable to whatever veggies you have to hand. The 'proper' version of scrapple is made with leftover pork 'scraps' - hence its name. I use the version that I found in Angela Shelf Medearis' book, which luckily, a blogger has written out in full; Veggie Scrapple I always use black-eye peas for my version, or I would use chickpeas - I haven't ever used white kidney beans as given in the blogger's recipe.
Well, DP is up and about, so I best shake a tail-feather and do something constructive. Dinner tonight will be something along the lines of a version of veggie shepherds pie - unless we get caught up in doing something convoluted, and then it'll be porridge..... :rotfl:
Thanks everso for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.
