Good Evening :hello:
UpsidedownBear - I dunno about 3D, but I'm suffering from double vision - and I'm stone cold sober........ :rotfl:Em..... it's DD who is 29 :eek::eek::eek:. Seeing as how my mental age is early 30's, she'll be older than me soon.
tsk! gallygirl - I was trying to pay you a compliment - although I didn't actually realise that c_g was 29, so unfortunate choice of *youthfulness*Anyhoo, from where I'm sat, you look far too youthful yerself to have a DD of 29 (and for goodness sake - don't tell me your DS is older... even if he is!!!!!
:D)
wishus - you cannae lob in *snorkmaiden* pate and not tell us what it is!I'll tell ya what *stinkflipper* is if ya do
:D:p
mothernerd - I bet food container manufacturers spend a fortune making sure that we all can't easily get the last few grams out of each packet/container. Must cost us each year eh?
Firewalker - hey! How ya doing?That's a very kind offer, but I like my anonymity and I'm not sure how it would work, as most of the recipes I use are other peoples - that I mangle dreadfully...... :rotfl:However, I'm glad that you are here, as the point where I read about your Grandma was a bit of a coalescence of thoughts which ultimately have led to this new diary - so THANKS!
maddiemay - BRAVO! :T was the gammon off the bone, or did you get to make stock for the soup with the bone? Shall I send DP around for any leftover crumble scrapings????
Well, I've had a very Tuesdayish Tuesday today. No triumph no tragedy but ....... mmmm. I like a bit of summat to smile about or report on
I did end up popping into mrA. They hadn't actually got what I went in there to get (aubergines) but I did pick up one or two other bits. If anyone has got the urge for sweet potatoes, they are doing a kilo bag of them for 64p - which I was going to say beats even mrAl - as they were the cheapest, but I note that they have changed their bag size (from 1.25kg to 750g) - booo! So mrA wins.
Oh, but I did try to search for gelatine-free mini marshmallows. I'm wearing a poutLilty - our store (which is tiny and useless and stocks zero) only has the beef gelatine ones. I looked in all the locations that they could possibly be, but the ones in the baking aisle had gelatine. Ah well, would have been happy to buy them if they stocked them.
Dinner this evening was a bit of a failure. The soup was OK, but I had this *grand* idea of making a new recipe to accompany themI tried to make rice dosa's from Madhur Jaffrey's 'Easy Vegetarian' book. Whilst they tasted OK, my dosa's didn't look nowt like Ms Jaffrey's
Perhaps I didn't give the batter long enough - it rested for *about* 1 hr, (she said 1-2 hrs), but I've just been reading another recipe on a blog, and basically they are fickle things. If the batter is too thick, too thin, too hot, too cold - it won't work
Should have made chappatis instead
Anyway. The dosa recipe is HERE (you can see why I though they might have gone nicely with soup). The soup was Bengal Lancer's soup, which is a Covent Garden Soup co. recipe. If you'd like to have a look at that recipe, I've found it written out on a blog (scroll down to recipe 2), and the answer is 'Alice in Wonderland' - I remember it quoted in the cookbook- Bengal Lancer's Soup If you'd like a laugh, at my cr*p dosas (they tasted nice, mind), then a pic is here;
I rolled them up in the end - I wanted to serve then much more like pancakes (scotch pancakes) but they cracked and wrinkled to the point where it was easier to just roll them up, and have them look equally as awful! i'll have another go at the dosas, when I've more time, but I'm not convinced that they're a recipe for Greying Towers. It's probably an art form to be a dosa maker - you probably have to study under a mastermaker for 5 yrs or something. Perhaps I'll stick to naan's......
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that I didn't waste food - despite making a hash of dosa making
for the sunshine - not strong enough to warm, but strong enough for a *feel good* factor
for your encouragement - Thank you
Ta for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
I'm away to clue up on dosa making. I may be away some time.......
See y'all later.

Oh GP that is rubbish. I just grabbed my packet and re-read and they are definitely gelatine free. All mini and pink and white.
Mine is a super large Mr A with a much much bigger free from section than the brand new super dooper one near mums has so maybe we've a lot of fickle tummies here in Kent. I know mine is complaining awfully right now at my stupidity. Yes, I do forget everytime I have a chinese from my local I get terrible tummy achesomeone remind me and clip me round the earhole next time.
Am off to sleep so night folks x

Plenty of crumble left for DP, both the fruit and the separate crumble mix were some that I stowed in the freezer a while back, it was really crunchy and yummy with flaked almonds, oats and coconut in, I am going to have to search the 'net for the recipe, I have a rubbish memory, but it may be been one of the lovely Nigel's:)
Gammon wasn't on the bone and sadly when OH helped me with the big slow cooker 'cos my wrist joints were on strike, he threw away all the cooking liquid, he seems to spend a great portion of his life not listening to me and then wondering why I am miffed:rotfl: a couple of weeks ago we went to arts centre which doubles as theatre/cinema, the seats were quite well forward and it made my neck hurt looking up at the screen, my comment was great film, but we must never sit this far forward again, yesterday he went to buy tickets to see Mr Turner tomorrow and bought seats 4 rows from the front, I give up:(
Re Aubergines, did you see Memory Girl's recipe for Chinese Style Aubergine in Garlic Sauce?, not a fan of the things, but that looked lush.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Ha-ha. Glad to hear the story of my grandmother inspired you
. She is starting to inspire me as well. Have been reading a book on essentialism and concluding that though I'm no minimalist (and not like to become one any day soon) I am born essentialist.

Hello friends! Just dropping by with an explanation as to why I've been so gloomy recently.... I finally made an appointment with the doctor today as I felt weird, pathetic and generally feeble. I was scared I was having a winter bout of depression.. IT turns out I have a nasty ear and throat infection. My glands are swollen, my throat is covered in lesions and my ears are blocked with infection.
Perversely I am now quite happy through sheer relief!! I'm on penicillin and bed rest for two days and am so relieved to know its not the black dog that's been getting me down. He did say he wasn't quite sure how I'd kept going so I feel like a virtuous Pratt!! I tend to ignore physical illnesses as I'm much more worried about depression. People with mental health issues will possibly identify with that.
You have All cheered me up with your recipes. Thank you especially wit posts about retirement possibilities!! I have subscribed to the threads you recommended Greying. XxWith family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Great news Hopefuljoy (well not great that you're ill, but great that it's something physical). Try to learn to listen to your body and trust it. It won't always be your mind using your body as a diversionary tactic. Sometimes it really IS your body complaining, and it needs you to listen.
It's hard to tell the difference when you first start trying, but you will get the hang of it!0 -
Thanks Greenbee! I'm going to take your advice and be more attentive to my physical self. I dissociate too much!!With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Good Evening :hello:
Bit of an early epistle from me this evening, as the meal that I have cooked for dinner does not have a web-based recipe for me to shareSo I'm calling in early, whilst waiting for DP to finish scrubbing up, so I can dish up
Gammon wasn't on the bone and sadly when OH helped me with the big slow cooker 'cos my wrist joints were on strike, he threw away all the cooking liquid, he seems to spend a great portion of his life not listening to me and then wondering why I am miffed:rotfl: a couple of weeks ago we went to arts centre which doubles as theatre/cinema, the seats were quite well forward and it made my neck hurt looking up at the screen, my comment was great film, but we must never sit this far forward again, yesterday he went to buy tickets to see Mr Turner tomorrow and bought seats 4 rows from the front, I give up:(
Annoyed chaps don't listen to us? Tha's leaning 'gainst an open door there maddiemay....... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Firewalker wrote: »Have been reading a book on essentialism and concluding that though I'm no minimalist (and not like to become one any day soon) I am born essentialist.

ooooo, now then. Essentialism...... that sounds very interesting. I have a problem with minimalism, I'm sure that it is the word. It conveys lack, denial, nowt, miserable......... And it doesn't help that minimalist advocates are usually....... erm, folk who I can't get inspired by, as they get a little preachy and dictatorial...... However. *Essentialism* is...... better. Are you reading Greg McKeown? I only know his name cos I goggled 'essentialism'. Interesting (if it is his book) that a chap is talking about the fallacy of 'having it all'. Ain't that the line us gals have been sown for oh so long????? Mmmmm, going to definitely do some cogitating on *essentialism*
Hopefuljoy - in the nicest way possible.... that is aceYour posts indicated everything but being down in the dumps/winter blues. So whilst puss and lesions ain't grand..... they are treatable, so YAY for penicillin :j
UpsidedownBear - I *snorted* with laughter when I saw smilie - today I have had that scenario - and procrastination lost and I achieved 80% of a job that I have been putting off for no good reason :j
Today has been BRILL :j
I'm noticing that the days are starting to stretch out, and it is still vaguely light by 5pm. Imagine my surprise (not to mention delight) when a Robin decided to start up a full-throttle, tuneful warble, just as the light was fading. Couldn't see him, but boy, I could hear him. Magical
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
A wonderful letter from an Octogenarian, who apologises for their writing due to arthritis, and yet writes the most informative, love-filled letter you can imagine........

procrastination busting! - YAH!!!!!!!! :rotfl:
Thanks so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I'm away to think about *essentialism* whilst cwtching up with DP in front of the log-burner and catching up with some TV ( a food related prog - natch)
See y'all later.
