Barclays Connect Card

Could've opened it myself xD
You probably could have :rotfl:That's really interesting about your account as well! and you're lucky to get that overdraft rate! haha. Does that mean you can be fully aware of all bank stuff, as you could just search your account and view all activity and any markers, charges etc. whenever you like. Though i'm guessing all activity on your user account is logged. Wow, the insights of a bank employee xD
We're not allowed to access our own accounts, or anyone we're connected to, ie friends, family members, etc. I have to use Online Banking and Telephone Banking like every other customer! It is handy knowing what's happening in the background when you call up though.Btw, i'm working towards a financial qualification to work in a bank.
Excellent, are you going to do a degree?0 -
ibalametheparents, your card that you posted in the thread looks like a plastic card instead of a 'carbon neutral' one. I can see the plastic peeling off at the bottom of the card. I assume they stop making 'carbon neutral' cards then. It's an u19s account - but i'm 18 and in full time education. I recieve EMA and work part time. I remember, when the advisor opened my account that when they were confirming the details there was a tab with something like 'Card' on her screen. Where it said card type it said ELECTRONIC (CONNECT). It was a drop down selection box field. I'm wondering whether there would've been the option to select another type of card.
When I opened an account, would I have been better off opening a standard current account?
You only qualify for that account as you are a student in full time education.iblametheparents wrote: »It's £15, not every customer has it, and it's not because of the time taken for debit card transactions to clear.
I still have a Cash Card Account. I didn't know about the buffer until now. How do I know if I have it? I'm not planning to go overdrawn though. I'm using that account for budgeting, and my HE account as my main one.iblametheparents wrote: »I wonder why the Personal Banker opened up a YPA rather than a BBA? Maybe you failed the credit check? Make sure you have regular income coming into the account, this should help you when it does change over to a BBA (if you don't get it changed yourself).
I have to have an account with Barclays, it's a condition of my employment that my wages get paid into it. You're not credit scored when it's opened, it has to be signed off by a Branch Manager, and you get the offline card automatically. All overdraft applications are done by a specialised team and again aren't credit scored. The overdraft interest rate is only 1.5% EAR!
I think the Personal Banker opened the YPA account, because according to the website that account is for people in full-time education (GCSEs/A-levels or equivalent).
Also, I thought banks automatically upgrade 'teenager/children' accounts to normal bank accounts (for 18+), and no need to upgrade themselves.
The interest rate is so low! What rates do you get as an employee for loans, mortages, and credit cards?0 -

It says Carbon Neutral on the back of the card, I'm just no good at looking after them!
If you don't have an overdraft and you don't have a personal reserve then you normally have a £15 buffer. Like I said, not everyone has this, it depends which refer stream (type of customer) you are and also, sometimes staff will put a £2.00 overdraft on (which a customer can't see) to indicate they've not run their account well - you wouldn't get it in this case as well.
OP is in part-time employment too and yes it will be upgraded, think it's the Summer after 19th birthday.
We get the fee-paying current accounts half price, but then have to pay the same overdraft rates as customers. We can get a Barclaycard with a rate of 11.9%-8.9%, staff loans are 8.8% at the minute but I've known them to go as low 6.9% - don't really get discounts of mortgages because I think it's a benefit-in-kind and we have to pay tax.
There's a website here: http://apps.barclays.co.uk/youniquelybarclays/home.html0 -
I have a student additions account with 4659 card and my card was issued in June with old connect branding... took me long enough to get the contactless 4659 card as originally given 4658 but problems with account opening meant upgrading it wasnt easy according to PB.0
