Barclays dont issue connect cards anymore, they are Contactless Visa Debit cards.

How come my Barclays contactless Visa Debit card says "Connect" on it then? ;)

'Connect' is the brand name of Barclays Visa debit card.

You got the new style Barclays debit card. I think they got rid of their branad name for their debit cards.

They've removed the Connect branding. Contactless is only available on the Visa Debit with cheque guarantee function as those transactions don't come off your balance straight away, like payments in certain shops under their floor limit. The standard Visa Debit requires credit scoring because, in effect, you could write out 28 guaranteed cheques to another account that you have, each for £50/£100/£250.

Out of curiosity, why did they drop their Connect branding?

When the cheque guarantee function discontinues in 2011, what will happen to the contactless function? Would it be on all cards (4658 & 4659)? :o

My wife applied for a card 2 weeks ago and received it last week. It is a contactless visa debit card (with the cheque guarantee function), which has the Connect brand in the top right corner !

So does mine (issued earlier this year). Top left - Phoenix Symbol and 'BARCLAYS'; top right (slightly below) - 'Connect'; below that the connectless symbol. Cheque guarantee too on the back. As far as I can see it's still a Connect card!

I've messaged you. The contactless feature is only on 4539/4659 cards at the minute because the payments aren't authorised at the bank, I don't know if this is going to start to happen in the future.

Strange, I ordered one about three weeks ago and it doesn't have the Connect brand. I have a staff account with a 4659 offline card with £250 cheque guarantee limit.

When did they remove the Connect branding?

My Aug 2009-issued black 'Premier' card says Connect on it and also has the contactless symbol, not that I've actually found anywhere that actually uses this....
