In my case, I check with ebay shippers beforehand, and won't pay for City Link.

I am the same with UK-Mail. The only courier company that was unable to find my address. This after 3 purported attempts and detailed instructions given after the first attempt.

I told the supplier to cancel my order in the end and went elsewhere.

I never had any problem with City Link although my preferred courier is DPD. Waiting in during the hour timeslot they give for delivery, rather than all day most of the others expect you to wait is just brilliant.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me with City Link was one day I had a failed delivery card and it said they would try again tomorrow and if I wasn't in they would return the item to sender; I called them and told them that I would not be in at the same time next day, so please don't try and deliver then - they said that was their scheduled run and that was when the delivery would be. They also said that the consignee cannot change the delivery terms, only the dispatcher.

My opinion is that they weren't geared up for home deliveries, and mis-sold the service.

To be fair, if they're passing your house at that specific time as part of the round, it's unfair to expect them to re-arrange the whole round just to change your delivery time.
Surely they'd allow delivery on another day?

Surely a certain amount of this comes down to supply and demand?

You have the choice these days of around 15 different companies - does anyone really care about the 'service' and not just look at the bottom line?

I always like to use UPS or TNT for my company deliveries and they do a great job.

Personally, I am still at a loss to understand how any company can get a parcel from Scotland to Cornwall for under £10 next day. I understand it is reliant on large volumes of parcels - but perhaps City Link were just too cheap or didn't have the demand the competitors did for various reasons?

From what im reading City Link didn't move witht he times on volume charges. So they were filling lorries with big boxes on low yields.

That doesn't make the £10 scotland to cornwall cost effective in the long term.
