There are several handlers from retail to delivery depot. They often employ foreign people who can't read addresses. Our depot often receives mis-sorted parcels from many miles away. We send them back into the system to find their rightful path but then there's a larger risk they go missing. It's rarely a courier fault when parcels go missing, they have to scan in/out their consignment so everything is traced. It's the depot/sorting staff that are to blame!0 -

Most of our customers will be happy to pay the extra - and to be honest, if it's better than the service we've had from Yodel recently I'd pay it myself if I had to. We're sending about 15 a day, so not 'high volume' but it'd add up if we footed the bill.0 -

Yup,but many shoppers simply look at the price.
So how do you know how many sales you lose through this?
Im not slating DPD. Great courier (from my experience) and class leading IT.
However the reality is most punters would skip your site and go for the store using Yodel and displaying the cheaper price.0 -

I agree.
99% of people prefer free or cheap delivery than paying extra for a better service.0 -

Whether it's the depot staff, the sorting staff or the delivery staff who cause a problem makes no difference whatsoever to the people who send goods or the people who receive them.

From my experience, when you select "free standard delivery" then you have no control who delivers for you. It will be the cheapest option of the day and could be one of several couriers.
The company I work for delivers many Amazon parcels, yet I have never yet had an Amazon parcel delivered via this method. How do they decide which courier receives which consignments?
I've also ordered items I know from cpmaines "we" deliver for onlu to find a different company has delivered them!
Retailers certainly aren't loyal to courier/delivery companies and I suspect they use the cheapest offer at the time.0 -

From the point of view of a consumer shopping online there is no value in delivery, they expect their order to be delivered intact and on time no matter what. It's a commodity, and on most websites it's not even possible to know who will handle delivery.
As such the cheapest the better.0 -

Foreigners employed who can't read the addresses on the packages, and whose fault is this? It's certainly nothing to do with the customer.
From the inside of the box I would agree with you, looking outside off the box it is the customer, their demands for service/price are driving the need to recruit at the lowest possible cost.
