Are you been serious, am i really going to lose £1700 and my holiday to claim on the insurance !!!!!!

Well you can see how it would look to the insurance company, already not 100%, so decides to take out insurance to them make the claim for not going on the holiday.

Why did you not take out insurance when you booked the trip?

Can you answer the various questions your been asked, OP?
Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman
  • That's why I asked as to when they booked the flight. Silence on that so far.

But before you asked that, you also made this post:
What are you talking? How can influenza be a pre-diagnosed illness?

Oh yeah, I had the flu last year, so if I get it again this year, my insurance is null and void.

    A thoroughly silly post.

And as it now appears to be the case that the influenza was indeed a pre-existing condition:

I took my insurance out on the 19th of december i had been ill with flu prior to that, but got better. Then the day before my holiday i got ill again so went to the doctors and she said i had picked up another bug while getting over the first one. I just could'nt bare to travel all that way to Thailand feeling like crap.

are you going to be man enough to admit that referring to Barny1979's post as "thoroughly silly" was incorrect and apologise to them?

    What antenna posted wasn't criticism.
It is a fact that people do sometimes make false insurance claims and although your case is probably 100% genuine, this might not be how it looks to the insurance company and you have to consider it from their point of view.

You felt unwell and went to see your doctor who diagnosed flu.
Between this diagnosis and the travel date you took out insurance and one of the application questions would have been asking about any recently diagnosed conditions or appointments with medical practitioners.
If you didn't mention this, they have every right to refuse a pay-out, especially as the bout of flu could have weakened your immune system and lead to the later infection.

This happened to me earlier this month. I developed a pain in my leg, went to the doctors on the 1st, was told just to take Ibuprofen, but by the 4th, was in agony, got an emergency appointment and told to have a blood test just in case on the morning of the 5th, the results in the afternoon showed I had the chance it was a clot and advised that I shouldn't fly on the 6th. I didn't get round to booking insurance until the 5th, so unfortunately wasn't in a position to claim. Just one of those things and my fault.

The simple facts are,.the insurance was taken out after the first illness,
you may think the insurance was taken out specifcally to make a claim as the op had decided they no longer wanted to go.
Taking out insurance about a week before is very suspicious

No it's not... Many people take out travel insurance in the week before they leave. I fully agree they should take it out as soon as they've booked something (though I still haven't sorted out my cover for Easter!), but not everyone does.

And while their mini-tantrum isn't really justified, the self-righteous mocking people do on here towards those who don't get travel insurance early enough (to give the benefit of the doubt, I'm willing to believe it's unintentional) is a tad antagonistic - particularly if they're upset because they've just lost a huge chunk of money!

Yes, I did. The crux of the matter is when did they buy the insurance. They have made no mention of it being in between the bouts of illness. Have you seen such an admission?

There was no admission at that point.

    Later I wrote;
Now they have(admitted that they did)

Unfortunately they appear quite reluctant to reveal quite when they purchased the package/ticket.

Simply incredulous that someone waits until they get ill to buy travel insurance, gets ill again and then 'cancels it' along with their ticket.

Just a mind boggling series of events.

Either way, I do think that you should grow up...at least a little.

There's no real point discussing when the travel insurance was purchased as it's unlikely that it would be any use anyway.

Travel insurance isn't going to pay out because the OP wasn't feeling well, they generally require a GP to agree that the person is medically unfit to fly, a bout of flu or a tummy bug is unlikely to put the OP into the medically unfit to fly category.
