  • What are you talking? How can influenza be a pre-diagnosed illness?

Oh yeah, I had the flu last year, so if I get it again this year, my insurance is null and void.

    A thoroughly silly post.

Did you actually read post #5?

i had been to the doctors and got diagnosed with flu but was feeling better then yesterday felt ill again so went back to the doctors and she said i had picked up another bug and a urine infection which was making me feel worse.

So if the OP took out their travel insurance after the initial visit to the doctor then it was a pre-existing condition.
Most, if not all travel policies specifically ask if you have recently visited a doctor or hospital.
Even if the reason for not taking the flight was because of a different bug or urine infection, the insurance company could argue that the bought of undisclosed influenza weaked the OP's immune system.

Yes, I did. The crux of the matter is when did they buy the insurance. They have made no mention of it being in between the bouts of illness. Have you seen such an admission?

Exactly, so you agree that depending on when the insurance was purchased, the influenza could have been a pre-existing condition.
In that case, why bother posting this:

As said, read post Number 5, they had already been to the doctors and been confirmed they had flu, which then manifested itself in other illnesses. Therefore this is likely to void the insurance, subject to when they purchased the insurance.

If it turns out that insurance is invalid / cancelled, do you have another policy with your bank account you could try and claim on instead?
    [STRIKE]Original Mortgage 07/07 £160000 LTV 100% [/STRIKE]Remortgaged 10/13 £118000 LTV 84%

  • I took my insurance out on the 19th of december i had been ill with flu prior to that, but got better. Then the day before my holiday i got ill again so went to the doctors and she said i had picked up another bug while getting over the first one. I just could'nt bare to travel all that way to Thailand feeling like crap.

Were you medically fit to fly, or did you just feel it would be an uncomfortable journey because you were feeling rough? There's a big difference between the two.
  • probably more of an uncomfortable journey all i wanted was my bed and felt too ill to go all that way. In medical terms i'm not sure if i was fit to fly i had a temperature when i visited the doctor yesterday

People have raised temperatures and fly, in itself it is not going to stop you from travelling. Your doctor will have to complete a form stating whether you were fit to fly, and whether your condition was pre existing. In both cases the answer would appear to be yes, which would lead to your claim failing.
