Morning everyone- not so windy today but still miserable and grey.

Have finished sorting out a few bits and pieces for the sacks. just need to order some joggers for DH, this is becoming more of a task than anything. He wants some with zips in and the only place I can find them is Tesco but they are slim fit and much as I love him, slim fit he is not! Back to the drawing board methinks!

Feisty- hope the move goes ahead for 28th and as others have said take time to enjoy the next few weeks as a couple before the baby is born.

Free- good luck with the wallpapering!

    I'm afraid I don't like that tree, I'm boring I know!

I need to find some nice cards for neighbours etc- Im hoping that o2 priority has some at WHSmith like last year lol so I don't have to spend out. (Not only am I boring I am tight too lol).

DD is off to Brighton tomorrow for the long weekend, and I am a little nervous in the light of recent events, as part of her journey is on the tube. I keep telling myself I mustn't allow myself to think like that but I admit I find it a bit worrying.

On the plus side, we are off to the Good Food Show next Sunday which I LOVE!! I cant wait although it will be a test on my foot cus it is a looong day! Oh well- Im a firm believer in no pain no gain! On the subject of which im hoping to get my eyebrows done his morning and im not looking forward to it cus it hurts like the proverbial !! Ouch! Its my own fault for not keeping them in check myself- think the girl is gonna need a lawnmower they are that bad!

    Enjoy the day everyone x
    lovin' this site!

  • Morning Christmas crazies :) just over 5 weeks left now!
Feisty we have probably got the same wrapping paper, mine was in the card factory too lol
04624181 that sounds lovely with the Christmas cards, glad to hear the appointment went well
Pixie I like the town centre tree...not sure if it's just the pic but looks like you can probably see it from space:rotfl:
Had a lovely first wrap session, blissmas was playing party tunes, not Christmas songs so I watched a bit of the Grinch instead...I love the bit where he says "Oh no I'm rhyming...Why, for year after year I've put up with it now. I must stop this Christmas from coming, but how? I mean, in what way?"
Very happy it's payday tomorrow, although pretty sure it just means I'll end up buying more presents for people. Plus we're going to Home Bargains and B&M on Saturday so that's never a good plan when trying not to spend!
Hope everyone is well and feeling the festive spirit, it will be over before we know it!
    I'm dreaming... of a white Christmas :snow_grin :xmassmile:rudolf:
  • Morning everybody

Just popping in quickly to remind everybody that the Nectar double up starts today. I know a few of us were waiting for it, so thought I'd let you know.

    Will catch up later :)
  • Good Morning All.

I need to rant I'm afraid, so please feel free to pass over my rather selfish post ...

Gutted. Dd2 has been quiet for a few days, and this morning on the journey to school, I found out why. A couple of the boys in her class told her on Monday that Santa isnt real. They explained how parents do it all etc. They are 7 & 8.

We knew it wouldnt be long before dd2 (8) worked it out for herself, but she was absolutely devestated and told me she feels really sad.

I refuse to lie to her, so I told her that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and suggested that she asks santa (in secret) for just one special gift, something she knows mummy & daddy would never buy for her... I just have to hope now that the item she asks for is the xeno monster she has been ranting on about all year, but that I have point blank refused to get her (its been sat on top of my wardrobe for the last 6 weeks!).

The mummy part of me wants to grab these boys by the collar and shake them, but as I work at the school, its probably not a great idea ;-)
So I have had a word with the teacher and warned her, as some of the kids in that class are still very firm believers. Luckily shes a great teacher, and big fan of Christmas, so she is going to have a class discussion today about the big man, how different religions and different people have different beliefs, but that she certainly still believes in Santa!

Hopefully, between us, we can at least get dd's christmas spirit back, if not restore any kind of belief.

Why cant kids just be allowed to be kids these days? Rant over xx

Kid shave been doing that to ds since 2 years ago, I just say it's up to them what they believe but they are taking a big risk in losing out on santa & Christmas elf gifts. That firms up his resolve & even now at 8, he kind of knows it's not real but doesn't want to lose out on the special gifts so keeps up the magic
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Pinknfluffy that's really annoying but unfortunately always happens at some point. With mine I did what you and Quidsy have done - I said some people believe and some don't but were they sure they wanted to take the chance? I'm way over 8 and definitely still believe lol. DD's teacher sounds lovely and her idea sounds a lovely way to handle the situation.

Ha ha Murie I bet you're not boring or tight lol.

Mandco/Free I'm going to have a look in the 99p shop for that gingerbread popcorn - will be a nice addition for DGD's Christmas Eve box.

Apologies that I've missed out a lot of posts but my woolly brain has meant I can't remember who said what now. I must remember to make notes as I go. :o

Well the Studio24 saga rumbles on. Yesterday I finally got a reply to my message sent via their website about three weeks ago.......it was an apology for the delay in replying and a promise that my email is important to them and they'll be in touch soon. Really???? I've replied to say the query is resolved because the goods turned up but their customer service is appalling and I won't be ordering from them again. I've also told them to remove me from their customer base though I'm pretty sure they won't. I feel good though and from now on the post they send will go straight into the recycling - minus my personal details of course.

I'm off to check out the list somebody on here posted from organised Christmas - apologies that I can't remember who it was but thank you, you know who you are :D
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :
  • I have never had a bought cake before but am going to need a good one and no idea what is the best. I do not like the dark cakes though and would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you :)

I got all the ingredients for my Delia cake I do every year, soaked everything and got it in the oven, even congratulated myself because it did not seperate when I put the egg in with the butter/sugar. Did everything right, down to the brown paper round the cake and the hole in the parchment on the top, then later..........I looked through the glass oven door and saw some mixture on the bottom of the oven, went away and looked again 10 mins later and the pile was getting bigger.
I then realised that the bottom must have been a bit askew so took the plunge and opened the door, put a wooden spoon in and pressed down where it was leaking from
This was one hour into cooking and I will leave it to do it's time and probably have it as a pudding with custard but cannot imagine that it could possibly pass as a Christmas cake and I do not have the heart to make another, hence the request for a good cake to buy, please.

OMG it's 36 days til Christmas:xmastree::santa2: but I am now panicking that im not organised!
I do this every year. Think I'm super organised, have plenty of time, then bam! I run out of money and time and panic buy.
I still need to buy for
Dad, sister, Oh, and more stuff for my DS. I also need a few extra bits for my Neice and 2 nephews, but I know what to get them.
My dad is the hardest. He doesn't reallt have any Hobbes apart from golf. But as he is going through chemo just now, he isn't up to anything. He doesn't need more jumpers or socks and lives on his own.

Pinknfluffy, my DD is 10 and still believes, but boys in her class have Also been saying the same! She has questioned me and now says most of her class doesn't beleive. I said the same as you, but also told her I believe and it's all about the magic for me. She seemed happier, but for the first time I think she has been snooping for presents. She is a huge xmas nut, so this is so sad, but was expected.

Has anyone ever bought from Rosegal.com? It came up on as sponsored ad on my fb. I liked the look if the hoodies on it. They had a thanksgiving flash sale, so got myself a nice blue and white striped hoody and my sister a grey one. They were only $14 and free shipping world wide. I'm just worried about sizing. I opted for XL but just hope that isn't a size 10 or 12 lol.

I can't believe the saga is still going on with Studio Peppa! I bet you can't stand to even look at their catalogues anymore. It always puts me off shopping somewhere if I have a bad experience with them. Even though my Matalan saga was eventually sorted, I'm still wary of ordering anything from them now after having such hassle returning the stuff I didn't want. Problem is, my eldest daughter saw a jumper she liked on their advert yesterday so looks like I'm going to have to get that, but I might pop to the store instead of ordering online.

Oh Pinknfluffy, I can totally get why you're upset. Our youngest is 7 and I would be devastated if that happened. Saying that though our oldest daughter still 'believes'. She obviously knows how it all works but she still gets fully immersed in the Christmas spirit, so hopefully it will be the same with our youngest.

nic2075 - I don't think I've heard of rosegal.com so can't really offer any advice on sizes etc. I hope it turns out to be the size you need :)

LoveLife - I'm sorry but I did laugh a little bit when you were telling us about your cake, it reminded me of a cake disaster I had last year. I was making a Victoria sponge and put the batter in to the large round cake cases and then in to the cake tins. Put them in the oven but for some reason this particular batch rose so much that before it was even set properly it had risen over the edge of the cake tin and as the paper cake cases aren't the strongest, the cake mix was slowly leaking over the sides of the tin so I ended up with cake all over my oven and very funny shaped cakes. I think in the end I had to throw them away because they just didn't cook evenly. Anyway, I hope you manage to find a suitable cake. I don't like Christmas fruit cake so wouldn't know which one to recommend.

My decorator is now confirmed - yippee :j A week later than I would have liked but still earlier than the previous one was going to come round, so at least it'll be done in plenty of time for Christmas.

I love the Christmas build up and don't want it to go too quickly but I am also finding that I am buying too much stuff because I see so many lovely things and some great deals, so end up spending more money. I think I need to get all my bank cards taken away from me :rotfl:

I placed an order with M&S last week. It was when they had the offer where you spend a certain amount & get a free Christmas food package with it. So placed the order and I've had the stuff I needed to buy but haven't received the food package. So I checked my emails and they had emailed me to say it was delayed due to no stock, but then I read somewhere else on here yesterday that the stores still had loads so I went on the M&S live chat to find out what was going on. The person wasn't particularly helpful to be honest, he just took my details and said he'd chase it up. But today I have had a despatch confirmation, so at least I'm getting it now. I was worried that they would drag it out for a while and then say they weren't getting any more stock.

I might do some wrapping this weekend. I haven't started yet and usually end up leaving everything until the last minute, but I want to be more organised this year so will try and set aside some time to do some wrapping. I bought some paper in the January sales and then bought some a few weeks ago when it was on offer, plus we bought more the weekend just gone so I know we have plenty to keep us going :)
