    Afternoon everyone!

Went out to lunch with my parents and sister today. Very nice. Might not need to eat until december now though! :rotfl:

Swung by Next on the way and picked up the MLP t-shirt. I just hope it fits my step niece come christmas morning!

I'm quite annoyed at Philips today. My (quite expensive!) electric toothbrush has stopped working for no apparent reason. And of course the warranty ran out a few months ago! Hoping to get it working again or I'll have to buy a new one. It's only just over two years old too.

  • You know what giggle, I actually find argos to be quite a lot more expensive than most other places so I'm not surprised it was quiet. I know they have the 3 for 2 offer on but when they had it last time I was working out how much money I would save on the stuff I was buying but the saving wasn't much compared to just buying the stuff elsewhere. There was one particular lego set that was £15 more expensive than it was on amazon!!

One of my friends works at argos and she actually gets a bit defensive whenever I comment on their prices, so I just keep my mouth shut now about it.

Great news about your OH PPI payout, great timing too with your car playing up & it being almost Christmas.

    Happy Birthday MrsI.

Well I did some shopping yesterday and had a delivery arrive. I'm still waiting for another delivery and a bit worried about it because it was supposed to arrive yesterday because they need a signature so I have to be home, but it didn't arrive so now I think I might have to either try & find out what time they will arrive tomorrow or I'll have to arrange to go pick it up from the courier depot. Problem is this particular courier is almost 20 miles away from my house and the main route is along a pretty busy dual carriageway, so I need to work out what will be the best time to collect.

I finally managed to return my Matalan stuff and the refund has gone in already, so I'm happy that I'm not going to have any trouble with the refund.

I've put a few decorations up this weekend. Going to do the rest next weekend.

i totally agree with you about argos being expensive compared. It only worked out cheaper cause the shopkins seem to be a set price everywhere atm lol

i was naughty yesterday and ordered one of the shopkins dolls for dd4 from australia... all i've been told is they expect them to be released in the uk before xmas but no date so instead of her not having one under the tree or me fighting to get hold of the blue haired one i know she'd love i have had it sent over. Thought i was being naughty and spending £19 including postage on it but looking at the price others are selling them for it seems quite a good deal.

NEed to wait until payday again before i can do more shopping, bdays have made the bank look a tad anorexic....

  • This thread is koving fast now!

Been shopping in York today, got somemore bits, it was not as busy I expecred it to be though...

Need to find a gift for someone who likes to do crafts-card making etc- last year I got her a hobby craft voucher, dont like repeating gifts!
Also got some Cath Kidston christmassy glasses today, thinking they would be a nice gift, but I am tempted to keep them for my self!

I agree with Argos being more expensive!

Irish Rose I've got Meggie for the elf project and I've also got her and her family for the reindeer cards although must admit I'm a bit stuck what to write for that one so if you've got any ideas I'd love a pm. I'm going to post about the same time as you - I want the parcel to get there before the main Christmas rush starts.
Oh I had Meggie's brother for one of my Elf projects last year lol.
I don't do the reindeer cards for the very reason that I'm useless at making things up:o That's why I take on extra ELf projets instead. Sorry I can't be of help on that one :(
We've got our Post Pals' gifts all in and wrapped up now, so just waiting to the end of the month to send them now. Which means more space lol. All the Christmas cards for the pals will be posted then too.

We've had another lazy day here today. Has been lashing out of the heavens most of the day, so we stayed in our jammies, wrote some Christmas cards for the Post Pals, and wrapped the few extra bits and pieces we picked up yesterday for them. Have watched too many Christmas movies, 2 on Channel 5 called The Town That Christmas Forgot, and The Christmas Bunny. Gotta say we all enjoyed them, the OH even said they were good:eek:

Picked up a few more gifts yesterday, and have just sat and bagged and wrote them down on my list on the phone to remind me what I have lol.
Also I'm making the candy sleighs again this year so just sat and sorted out some the the remaining sweets we had (mars bars, Milky buttons etc) from Halloween that haven't been eaten yet. Have them safely away so the rest can be eaten/given away whenever now.

As for the Argos conversation. I have to say I find them good enough value for money. And I save so much money in their 3 for 2 toys events every year. I find Amazon hit and miss with their prices. The majority of my kids toy's are from Argos and I've yet to pay full price for any toys on there. I think it's each to their own and depends a lot on what people need to buy etc.
Off to get the kiddiewinks bathed then bed for school tomorrow. Looking forward to a lovely relaxing bath myself tonight. We've had a tiring week.

    Hi all :)

    Hope its all going well.

I popped into argos today to pick up a tassimo machine for the OH (he's been wanting one for ages), and it was down to £40 in the blue colour so pretty chuffed! It was fairly quiet at 3pm.

Well looks like we are moving right before christmas, mortgage came through on Friday and just waiting on solicitors now, so its all go!

I'm struggling with a couple of people (one is emigrating next year, and the other is just a pain in the rear to buy for) but hopefully I'll get some inspiration soon.

    Hugs to all x

Belated Happy Birthday MrsI - hope you had a fab day.

Welcome to the thread TreasureQueen. It seems you're def not alone in not going overboard on the JL advert. I've still only seen it the once on YouTube so I need to see it again really to make a final decision.

IrishRose think I might have cracked the reindeer cards thing - had a sleepless night last night so at about three o'clock this morning I was running ideas through my head lol. Not sure I'll do it again though, I'm not really sure it's that good an idea to be honest so will probably stick to being an elf.

MrsM your photo sessions sounds lovely and you can re-live it all again when you get the canvas.

Sat with the DGSs yesterday morning so DD and DSIL could go to the remembrance service at their village church without stressing about keeping the little ones still and quiet then stayed for dinner. DD asked us to put the chicken in the oven about half an hour or so after they went out but unfortunately DH had a bit of a blank moment and for some reason decided he needed to cut the chicken out of the plastic bag it was in (the cook-in-the-bag bag of course). I couldn't find anything the seal the cut with so ended up taking it out and wrapping in tin foil instead. Needless to say it didn't cook in time and DSIL ended up having to go to local supermarket and buy a ready cooked one!

Loving all the Christmas films and specials. Did I say I got my garland for the two fireplaces? I bought it in The Range - was £7.50 and is long enough to cut in half and use half on each mantle. I'm going to wrap some LED lights round them and add some decs and some cinnamon sticks and hopefully hide some clove-smelling bits in there too.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Good luck with the Christmas move domraviolli, maybe do a box of deccys ready for when you get to where you're going, along with a box of the important stuff like light bulbs, kettle, beverages, mugs and lol roll.

Hope all are as well as can be, I've just found a stocking pattern to make my class one each for Christmas. I'm a lunchtime supervisor and for the last few years I've made 'my' class a little stocking each either felt or knitted depending on the time allowed then on the last day I put a little sweetie in each like a chocolate coin or something.
I've found a little felt stocking pattern on pintrest as I've got loads else to get done this year so haven't got time to knit them.
    That's my morning sorted.

Have fun all whatever you have planned.

IrishRose - your lazy day sounds wonderful, I am hoping for a lazy day soon filled with watching Christmas movies, but just looking at the next few weekends I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. I might have to just take a day off work just so I can have a Christmas movie marathon :rotfl:

You're right about Argos, it's probably more to do with what you're looking to buy and when you buy them. I'm the opposite to you, whenever I've looked at toys in Argos I've always found them a lot more expensive than buying elsewhere, so most of my kids toys are from Smyths or Amazon and sometimes Toysrus.

I can't believe it's Monday already, the weekends just seem to be going so quickly and I feel like I've still got so much to do to prepare for Christmas, even though I probably haven't.

Good morning, all. I was meant to be going to a Christmassy type market locally yesterday but the reviews were poor and my daughter, whose baby is due two weeks today, didn't feel up to donning her wellies, decided we should give it a miss. Not to worry, there will be plenty more, including my trip to Lille next month.

Anyway, she and her husband and two boys (she is having another boy) came to our house for lunch so I took the opportunity to practise a bit for Christmas. I roasted a huge leg of lamb and doubled up on the potatoes as I wanted to try freezing some to see how they went. I froze at the part cooked and floured stage so look forward to trying those in a few weeks with a view to getting ahead on my Christmas Day cooking. I roasted some to eat yesterday in goose fat but decided I don't like the smell so will stick with crisp and dry at Christmas. I made a Victoria sponge (with jam and cream) and was rewarded by my six year old grandson tucking in and saying, "Now, that's what you call cake!"

Got a new KMix mixer and now just deciding what to cook (to freeze).
  • Hi, thank you all for the birthday wishes, l had a lovely day, spent time with a lot of my favourite people and had a lovely meal with DD.
Today l cashed up all of my shrapnel and exchanged it for 5 crisp new £20 notes, in time for my annual trip to York with Fave cousin.
That, and this years 'savings' should cover the cost of the last lot of presents.
DDIL sent me an email with their flight details, arriving in Manchester at 6pm on 18th December, l am soooo excited.
Busy knitting again, l designed a pattern of snowmen and Christmas trees, which l have put into a Christmas cardi for my friends baby (6 months old) and it looks so nice l just may have to make a hat to match it. (not bragging, honestly, but l rarely knit fairisle and it is my first own made up design)
Off now to do some wrapping up and dreaded housework.
Keep warm, watch the ads you like, back soon, xxx
