Evening!
Back from the first day of my second week at my new job - I feel a bit better about it today, because I went to lunch with the other new girl and she has a lot of the same concerns as me. Nice to know I'm not alone!
I bought a couple of packs of cards in Card Factory this weekend - think it was £1 for two packs of 8, so a real bargain! I've also been reading about the mega cold snap in the UK this winter (2/1 odds on a white Christmas apparently). Is it bad that I'm mostly excited at the prospect of a few days working from home while the roads are icy? That, and some nice winter walks, of course...
I feel a bit behind on my Christmas shopping compared to this time last year! My mum is nearly sorted, my brother is nowhere near, my boyfriend has a few bits (but his birthday is 14th December so will split his stuff between the two), one of my friends is half done and another still has nothing as of yet. I need to get my brain into gear and get inspired soon!0 -
DomRavioli, just seen on another group I follow that someone there has just bought the popcorn holders from The 99p store. I'll have a look next time I'm in there.
Welcome Mrs Honey Badger - you can talk about Christmas as much as you like on here.
Wow MoneyMission, that was a definite bargain, I wouldn't mind coming across a couple of those.
Hope you enjoy the Christmas market Cherry. I went to one of the German Christmas markets a couple of years back when my daughter was living over there and it was brilliant.
stressedoutmumof1 did you get the 40 QVC bags with the drawstrings? I'd be interested to know what you think of them if you did.
GTQ it seems like everything is vulnerable now. Who would ever have thought about having their Nectar card cloned!
Congratulations Mrs Newthrift - glad everything went as planned. Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the dress if you're able to share.
Glad things are looking up a bit for you at work Kaya, hopefully it'll all be fine once you settle in more.
Nothing much to report here today but I'm on the hunt now for plain green garlands to bling up for my two fireplaces at Christmas. Nothing too big as they don't have big mantlepieces. They do have some in Matalan but I don't really want to pay too much so hoping HB or B&M may have something coming in soon. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
princesskitty ocado sell a lot of waitrose products is it this one? https://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Bourbon-Biscuit-Tin/296229011?from=search&tags¶m=biscuit+tin&parentContainer=SEARCHbiscuit+tin_SHELFVIEW currently 25% off any 2 selected products or maybe worth seeing if you can get a 1st shop discount which would make it even cheaper or free

And you're right that it was fate because even before I realised they had been returned I was starting to have second thoughts about it but told myself that once it arrived I would be happy with my choice, so maybe fate has taken the choice out of my hands. I've now got to sort a decorator so that when my new choice does arrive I can just get it started, rather than it sitting around gathering dust.
I ordered a few Christmas decorations yesterday. They are 2 hanging baskets for outside. I have the artificial ones on my front porch because I am absolutely useless at keeping plants, I have managed to kill every plant I've ever had, whether its an indoor or outdoor plant. So at the moment we just have normal, non Christmassy artificial hanging baskets outside. But now I've ordered some that are much prettier and have fairy lights in them. I also ordered some fairy lights for inside, but they're the sort of fairy lights that don't look strictly Christmassy so can be used all year :j
I am in work today, pretty quiet because I managed to get lots done last week (hence why I am on here) and absolutely starving so keep watching the clock which is obviously making the morning go slower than it usually does.
Feisty - I had a nose at your blog yesterday and at the photos of the house that you took when you completed and were in the midst of cleaning it. I hope to see some photos of it soon after all the work you've done to it.
I also ordered a few things from Gap on the weekend. They had a discount code on the site & I always buy a few comfy pyjamas from them for both daughters so thought I would get them now while the discount was working. The good thing was the code worked for items already on sale too so I ended up saving loads of money. There was a nightdress I picked up for my youngest daughter, original sale price was £16.99 and I got it for £1.69 because it was on sale and then I had 30% off again :j
I'm still waiting for a few items to arrive and I have some stuff to collect from the post office too. I also had a card left through my door saying that something has been left with one of my neighbours, so I'll have to call over to their house this evening as it has been with them since last week because we went away for a long weekend on Thursday night so I've not had chance to call over there yet. I love getting my parcels in the post because I forget what I've bought half the time. Saying that, I need to try & keep track a bit more because I've ordered so much stuff recently I could have quite easily not received something and not even realised. I actually checked all my emails last night for any orders I've made to double check and luckily so far nothing is amiss, so I'll try and keep track a bit better now.
I would love a link to those baskets too as the new house has hanging basket hooks on the storm porch
I am also guilty of not keeping an eye on what arrives and what doesn't when bulk shoppingHello All, i'm flying in to say thank you for the wishes for my wedding day, it was truly beautiful and we loved every minute! Our video has come back and we have watched it loads, just waiting for the photo's at the moment and cannot wait to see them.
Christmas present buying is finally under way, i'm about a 1/4 through now but have a good idea what we are getting for everyone so i'm not too stressed....next year I will be starting nice and early as normal though!!! Some Christmas cards brought but do need a few more and some more special ones.
I haven't read back anywhere as I am still so busy at the moment so just haven't had the time to get on here properly.
I hope you are all well and Christmas cheer is spreading through in the bucket loads!
Big hugs all round
Mrs Newthrift
So glad you had a great wedding!
DomRavioli I saw the range had popcorn holders in! They are to go with the scaled down cinema style popcorn machine that they are also selling. It looks lovely, but I don't think it's something we'd ever use sadly.
The cadbury hamper sounds amazing! I really wish that someone would make that for me
I've managed to snag a few days off this week (only worked Monday) but I sadly have to work the weekend. Seeing as I'm a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 girl, it's going to be hard!
DH 30th tomorrow, I've tried arranging stuff to make it special, but he just isn't interested

hi all, gosh what a lot of brainboxes, OU no less!
Christmas is coming hugs to everyone here, and apologies that although l have read back, l have no hope of commenting on all that has happened to you.
Christmas wise DD had her annual Av*n sale, and got herself a tidy sum to help with presents, and our (me, she, and fave cous) Christmas savings are at the £480 stage, just £20 to go.
My fave nieces DH is a star wars freak, and at the weekend DS1 said to his DD he wanted the Death Star for Christmas, so l got him a Haynes 'Death Star' manual, and the other one got a 'millennium Falcon ' manual, from the book people, £3 99 each.
Also got an electric toothbrush for my DD. (not from the book people)
l have decided that my other SIL and her DH will get a 'home produce' hamper, 3 sorts of jam, lemon cheese pickled onions beetroot and a chutney or picallilli. lt will cost virtually nothing, will look lovely and l know they will love it. l only have the beetroot and the picallilli to do and will get them done soon.
l made a start on writing my cards a couple of weeks ago, but never got back into it, so they are still to do.
On the subject of outside hanging baskets, l make them every year with conifer greenery, (from the hedge,) holly, (from the garden,) and wired baubles, and ribbon, and a pack of solar string lights. l sell quite a few, and give them to my lovely neighbours/friends instead of a present.
Sorry it is a long post, now l need coffee, byeee, be good all.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Oh I have been getting right in the Christmas spirit. I ordered the Muppet's Christmas Carol soundtrack and have been playing it for a couple of days now. I've wrapped up all my presents I've bought so far and have stashed them in our bedroom for now. I've ordered my Christmas jumper from Yours clothing, it's really cute with little penguins arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree, I can't wait to wear it. My hubby and the girls think I'm doolally tap but I don't care :rotfl::rotfl:. I just have a few more deliveries to come this week and then I have to wait until payday at the end of the month before I buy anything else.0 -
springdreams wrote: »Could you give a link to these please. I too have 2 hanging baskets of non-Christmassy artificial plants outside my front door, but quite like the idea of substituting them for Christmassy ones over December
Here's the link SD and Feisty, http://www.next.co.uk/homeware/christmas-home/decorations-lights/16
They're from next so a little expensive but they arrived yesterday and they are very pretty. I ordered the ones with the white flowers in, but they do red flowers too or plain green balls with lights in. The only thing I would say is, they are slightly smaller than I thought they would be, but not so much smaller that I would send them back. I guess it depends on how big you want them on your front porch, but for me I think they'll be fine
GTQ - that's nuts, you would never think somebody would steal something like a nectar card. But I guess more and more people are using loyalty cards these days so it's just there for the taking. Plus they obviously got lucky with yours because you had so much on it, I wonder if it was somebody who knew how much you had on there, otherwise they could have ended up stealing somebody's card with only a few pence on it?? I'm going to be careful with mine now because I've got about £50 on there at the moment and due another £100 from an introductory offer from Amex. I'm glad you got it all sorted out though.0 -
Morning everyone, 3 pages in 3 days it's moving along quickly now!
Free, hope you enjoyed your weekend it sounds lovely. We only went for 2 days but managed to organise almost everything which was good - the OH didn't even know who/ when/ where we were meeting at any point lol he's lucky the proposal was so amazing or he'd need to pull his weight much more! The wedding is June next year and we're starting to get really excited nowAnd I like the sound of TBBT pjs, I happen to have a bazinga t-shirt as well, slightly freaks me out with Sheldon's face on it though!
Oh I realised I booked the tickets for Wednesday 25th but it shuts at 6pm that day so I'm going to have to pay and go on the Thursday. If anyone wants the tickets for the Wednesday just PM your email address and I'll send them over.
Went into Iceland yesterday and they had quite a few deals on Christmas confectionery, managed to get walnut whip and liquorice allsorts boxes 2 for £4, usually the bassetts are £4!
Haribo, sorry to hear about your brotherPrimark did have most of their Christmas pjs in last time I went in
