  • Evening everyone, i have had a pj day today on the sofa, watching catch up tv, films and reading magazines and books, i am just shattered from all the prep and planning i think, and no matter how much i think i am cutting back you should see the pile of snacks, chocolates, crisps, baking still here, the kids said it wouldnt be christmas mum if you didnt go over the top :rotfl::rotfl:also they were all disappointed i hadnt printed out the menus for each day as i usually do and stick them on the kitchen cupboards so i know what we are having each day, apparently they love seeing them, another one of our traditions haha

NICKI your windows are fab again, well done! They must cheer a lot of people up round your way

AZJH hi and welcome to our thread, well if you are mad, so are we so you are in good company

Evening, I have had a very nice day off today. I sat and looked at old pics of my time living in saudi, played with the kids, had a walk, made tea and now watching a film and drinking a couple glasses of wine. I only had a glass on Xmas day and have been working since, am working the next 6 days too.

I am looking for a new job. Last night a guy tried to give me a wee kiss and grabbed my face for a snog! Seriously why do they think it's ok? I am a frumpy mum with specs and overweight. Yeah I chat to them and am nice and try to be funny etc, but not flirty.
I'll get over it. I know my shifts will end in jan, it's a small pub and will die a death so I'll have no shifts. I need a proper job, but it's not easy :-(

I havn't got any Xmas pressies in the sales, but I did get my nephews and my sisters February birthday pressies. So that's one less thing.

I also got my tins to save, I have a gold silver and bronze tin. I plan to save for Xmas next year and toward a holiday. The bronze will be for the kids when we go on out caravan holiday. They love the 2p tipping point type games. I promised to have more for them this year. X

What do you all do on Hogmanay/New Year's Eve? I am working 11-6pm but am off In the evening. I find new year quite depressing. I miss my mum as we head towards the new year.

We willhave some nibbles and a couple of glasses of Prosecco. I need to drive about lunch time the next day, so it won't be too much. Then a steak pie dinner on new year day.

Years gone by we would go to a house party and my OH would go out after the bells to ' first foot' everyone. But since having kids we would never ask anyone else to babysit. So we stay in. Am quite happy with that. I used to love going out partying til the wee hours, but I'm past that now.

  • NIC omg that sounds awful, what possesses them to think they can get away with it??? It makes my skin crawl :( I am dead boring NYE the kids are usually out, i sit in on my own (happily) having a couple of glasses of baileys, i watch a film because there is usually naff all on tv then watch the fireworks and go to bed. Then NYD we all have a Roast Beef dinner with all the trimmings with Apple Pie for pud (same every year) together. I dont know what started this tradition but i like it to be the same each year :D its just a lovely way to start the new year

I'd love to say it's the time of the year, but i get it all the time. But I think there seems to be the excuses this time of the year. There is 3 or 4 men soft on me ( really Im not blowing my own trumpet, they are lonely)

Our tradiontal scottish New Years day dinner is steak pic, tatties and veg. So similar to your roast beef. The house gets cleaned and the decs come down on the 2nd ready for the new year.

I'm not sure what to expect from this year. I'm planning to keep losing weight with slimming world. I've lost just over a stone In a month. But probably put on half a stone over Xmas lol.
I'd love to do a course and learn something that could help with a new job. But as always, money and time thwarts that x

  • Nic your window decoration s are amazing. I can't believe people behave like that but to be fair I stopped going out about 10years ago when pregnant with dd.

I am not a fan of new year and never have been. Scarily 25 years ago I would babysit. When did I get so old? Oh and dd are very social so I slap a brave face on and go to Pontins for 3 nights for new year. It was £120. The entertainment is good but I don't usually drink so have to guage it so I don't become a crying bore or pass out but drink enough that the sheer volume of people doesn't put me off!! They love it. Then I've the weekend to focus on the new year

My weight is becoming a serious issue and I am uncomfortable all the time and sound like a dirty phone call walking anywhere so back to slimming world.

Free spirit love your new years eve it is very me!!!

    Hi all,

Hope you all had a great Christmas. Mine was busy but didn't feel stressful and despite all my prior worrying, I didn't get upset like I thought I would. Just New Year to survive then we'll have done all the "firsts" without dad (apart the anniversary of his passing next week)

We made it a family Christmas. Sis popped in on xmas eve and dropped off mum, mum slept over. In laws came over on Xmas day for lunch, we went to in laws on boxing day and a friend came up to visit and stay over on Saturday.

All gifts were good, so my regifting box is empty. May buy a few packs of cards and wrapping paper in the sale but as I send less cards each year and gifts tend to be cds/dvds or giftcards, I'm wondering whether to bother.
  • Chrissy - your doggy is so cute.

Nicki - your windows are amazing :T

Christina - that pastry sounds delish. There has been a pastry ban for me since I started SW in April - it hasn't really bothered me too much until now (hopefully it will pass).

Our plans for NYE - DS will be working then going back to GFs for the night so that will leave just me and DH. Will be staying at home with a couple of drinks, a few nibbles and complain about the carp tv. DH will do first-footing and will be in bed well before 12.30.

NYD - the tree and decs may come down according to DH. DS working till around 18.30 so when he gets back we will have a nice meal together then watch more carp tv probably. We lead really exciting lives.

Debating whether to hit the shops this afternoon. Would like a photo frame for a picture we have printed of DS and his GF. Had hoped to do it for Christmas but the printout wasn't too good. Since then we have found a better pic so have decided to frame it as a New Year gift to them. Normally I would have stocked up on cards and wrappings in the sales but not so bothered this year as we still have plenty of leftovers.

Heading off to SW tonight to see how much damage has been done over the hols. Only really had Christmas Day and Boxing Day off plan so fingers crossed it shouldn't be too bad. Daren't think of all the foodie/sweetie pressies we got for Christmas

    Take care everyone

  • Afternoon everyone, well i laid in bed umming and ahhhing about whether to take tree down today to catch recyling tomorrow or have it sitting around outside for 2 weeks till the next recycling, so i decided today! I would have had it down by wednesday anyway i cant stand it up in the NY so now i have to hoover all the needles everywhere but i cant until DS deliverys arrived otherwise i wont hear the door :o

NIC oh blimey you are very popular with the menfolk then haha, still there is a difference to being popular and being touched up all the time :( Well done on the weight loss

MOJOWORKING i hope you have a good time at Pontins for NY
and good luck with thinking about what to do, i feel the same, but i feel it every new year, just for once i would like to be able to stick to it :D

HISMISSUS glad you still had a good christmas even though it was the first one without your dad, and i hope your mum got through it ok, sounds like being busy is what you needed

BEG good luck at SW tonight :)

  • I won't be doing much on NYE. My OH is working from 4 to midnight I think so unless he's let out early he won't be here. I might have a little drink early in the evening in case he requires my taxi services to get home if there's a horrendous waiting time for taxis when he finishes. Police will prolly be out in force so would like to not get breathalysed!

Normal dinner for us which OH will reheat when he gets home and a nice bubble bath for me.
