Good to hear from you VJ. Funnily enough I was having a conversation about HK with the (Chinese) guy doing my nails last week. I've been there twice, both times in February and both times Chinese New Year! Great fun.:)

I agree about capsule wardrobes and thanks for the tips. I was telling my DH that some people go out and buy a whole set of new clothes for holidays and he was incredulous. I have a section of my wardrobe given over to hot weather holiday clothes. I rarely wear any of those bits in the UK as the weather's not good enough and/or they're a bit skimpy for High Street wear!:rotfl: So the same basics come out year on year and I do a stocktake so if anything's past its best I'm on the lookout for a replacement especially in end of season sales. Same thing with work clothes. I devised a 'uniform' of mix and match clothes that look suitable. And I do something very similar with my 'smart casual' clothes in that I have a selection of jeans, skirts, tops, cardis, scarves that give me the look I like.

I've done all the basics this morning including creaming my feet which I'm not good at doing regularly. I've got a tub of cream that's almost finished so I'll persevere as I get pleasure in finishing things off. I've promised myself a pedicure before the wedding in a couple of weeks.

Interesting dilemma you've posed LL. It's sometimes very hard to stick to principles. I have similar feelings about Starbucks, Apple and Amazon and other tax dodgers. It's hard sometimes not to use the latter especially.

newthrift, I haven't heard good reports about SW online but if they live remotely then I suppose there aren't many options. I'd suggest going to a group even if it's just once then you'll get the books which you can follow at home. It'll cost you £10. You're very welcome to join us on the SW thread which is like going to a group but better!;)

    Have a good day all.

    Good Morning All

I had a lovely weekend with all the family and thank you for all the good wishes. I was shattered by last night and fell asleep on the sofa for a couple of hours. I got loads of compliments for the new hairstyle too which was great.

I've just got out of the bath so am sitting here with hair in towel and in my bathrobe whilst I type. I shall then see how well I can dry and style my hair to get it looking as good as the hairdresser did it - it lasted beautifully till today. I've had a 4 mile run this morning and weighed and measured myself for the beginning of the month. I've put on a couple of pounds over the weekend but they should drop off again shortly as I think its from eating carbs. So I'm only 2lbs lighter than Jan 1st but I've lost half an inch from my waist and an inch from my tummy so am quite happy. And even if I only lose 2lbs every month I shall eventually get down to my 8st 12lb target by September anyhow (though as I have my stepson's wedding in July I realistically would like to be there by then).

I didn't eat too badly over the weekend but did succumb to a couple of the puddings I'd made and also shared some of DH's Toblerone last night. Interestingly, I was too hot in bed last night for the first time for ages, which reinforced my theory that it is sugar that causes my overheating.

I've just checked what goals I posted for January and they were

    To lose 6lbs - only managed 2lbs
    Start running again-yes
Master the new hairstyler I was given for Christmas to keep my hair looking as close to hairdresser perfect as possible. -yes
Get my feet into good condition-ongoing
Try to do the 21 day Primal Blueprint Challenge on Mark's Daily Apple which starts a week today.
-mostly apart from the lapses at the weekend

    My goals for February

    Lose 6lbs
Keep persevering with getting my feet into good condition
Continue with the low carb eating
    Avoid sugar
Remember to slow down my eating

    Morning all

I am off work today but am up, dressed and half fabbed as I took OH to the train station. I am mostly going to be doing home-fabbing today.

I wore my new boots last night, felt a million dollars even though the rest of me was jeans and a hoody. Tomorrow is our shopping day so I should find a pair of work trousers and then I can start wearing them to the office, assuming the snow stays away of course!

    Hi there,

Just came across this thread and I know it's a month in, but is it ok to join?

I'm have set myself a target of losing 100lbs this year (15lbs gone already in January! :D ) and to try and make more of an effort with my appearance.

I've put on over 7 stone in the past 4 years and struggle with depression, so have really let myself go and look a lot older than 35, so would like to try and sort that out.

I just have no idea where to start.:o

I really need to make more of an effort with my hair, as it's long and brown, but going grey at a rapid speed! I try to keep on top of it with home dyes, but never seem to manage, so ideally I'd like to try an get into the habit of going to the hairdressers regularly to keep on top of it. I've also been thinking about having highlights to try and disguise the grey, but not sure of the upkeep of that.

My goals for February are to lose 7 lbs and to start exercising regularly. I feel great after getting out for a long walk, but have trouble motivating myself and need a kick up the bum! :D

I have a holiday booked for the end of March and would like to try and look as best as I can by then, as my holiday photos from last year are horrific! I don't expect to lose loads of weight by then, but to even be a bit slimmer and more 'groomed' would make a massive difference.

Sorry for the novel, didn't realise how much I had written. :o Hope it's ok to post here.
  • Hi everyone, hope you all had lovely weekends. I had a great weekend, instead of lazing about all weekend with the OH, we got out of the house, went around a great museum, had delicious pizza at a restaurant and I bought a new pair of boots that I have had my eye on for ages (Dr Martens).

Not feeling too glamourous today though. Did my roots yesterday and although it's the colour I always use I forget how dark it is when I first do it (as it fades quite a lot as it is only a demi) and I still don't like my hair cut. I feel quite frumpy and don't know what to do about it. Doesn't help that I'm bundled up in layers upon layers of knitwear!
    No more goo hoarding!

Yes - it can be difficult being ready to go for different climates and different scenarios. I didn't keep clothes in the case, as you say they had to be laundered anyway. I kept spare undies, sandals, shoes, evening handbag, some fashion jewellery - just that kind of thing. The it was easy to just add clothes at the last minute.

I was discussing packing with my sister the other day telling her about the Kondo Marie method of folding etc.

Theres is a great thread about it on the OS board.

Anyway she was telling me her husband is ace at packing. He is ex New Zealand merchant navy and he learnt how to pack effectively then, following the Kon Marie method. He was in the navy over 20 odd years ago so I guess this method is not new at all but something that has been around for a while.

I am currently "Kondoing" our house. I spent a happy Saturday "Guerilla Kondoing" DS2s wardrobes, he was dead chuffed when he came home. He said I had "origamied" all his stuff ..:rotfl::

Oh well back to those kitchen worktops........then some lunch then a bit of fabbing.

Hi Rose - glad you had such a fab weekend. You deserve it with all the effort you put in.

I was stunned about what you said about being too hot at night. I hadn't put two and two together but now you mention it, I realise that I have found my body temperature is more stable since cutting out sugars and carbs, with hardly any night sweats. Last week when I had my lttle relapse and consumed too many carbs the overheating occurred again.

Thanks for pointing it out, it just hadn't registered with me, another reason for me to stick with the programme.

Jacqu - hi and welcome to Fab School. We will soon have you graduating with honours.

Enjoying the 'Travel Tales' I was just thinking about how often people used to say 'You're so lucky being able to travel with work & all paid for' - yes, & getting up at all hours for flights, hanging around in airports, going from meeting to meeting & frequestly going from plane, to hotel, to meeting & never seeing the outside at all. arriving home in the early hours and back at work that morning to give a report - do I miss it - no way!!
I do miss some of the lovely people I've met & I have been lucky enough to stay in touch with a few though.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Thank you for the advice, I think I would be better doing that (one class and getting the books for £10) then over to join you on the SW thread!! I really don't want to get fat fat and I would love to get back to a size 10/12 and around 10.5stone - if I manage near to this by the time I get married that will be even better!!

Jacqu79 – Welcome to the group :) you can join anytime and they are a wonderful bunch on here!! Sorry that you have had a rough few years! Start small and join in on fab Friday (or whichever day suits you) and then just add as it becomes habit!! Happy fabbing and keep coming back to report in and motivation – it keeps you going :D
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Not forgetting, jet lag, mozzie bites, stomach upsets, throat infections from air conditioning........no I don't miss it one bit.

I did meet some smashing people though.
