Is the colour definitely getting applied to those hairs? If I'm going to miss any, it's those ones, or I risk wiping it off when I try to clean the dye off my face.

Hi all - need to get my roots done. DGD does them but lately I've found the colour doesn't seem to 'stay' on the white hair around the sides of my face - I usually go for something like Light Ash Blonde/Pale Blonde,Frosted Blonde (nothing with red or gold in it) as I don't want my roots to show drastically ( must be 90pct white as I started going grey at 18 - runs in the family!)
    Any recommendations gratefully received!

I'm fortunate in that my hair is hardly grey at all, probably genetic or just lucky not sure which!! My natural colour is a very boring mousey brown so I've had it highlighted for as long as I can remember. Years ago all highlights were bleached platinum but more recently I've had shades of caramel amongst the lighter blonde. Tends to be much lighter in the summer.

I'm another that's stuck with the same (very expensive) hairdresser for years. He does a good job on my hair so I'm prepared to pay for it. ellsbel, I can see that you'd feel guilty about having a change but it's your choice. Groupon sometimes do some good deals that help you experiment with different salons. You could always tell your hairdresser a 'white lie' like a friend/relative had been practising on you or you'd had it done while away on holiday or someone bought you a voucher. Ashamed that so many ideas tripped off my tongue.:o

I'm out for a meal with old friends tonight. Still deliberating what to wear as you can never tell how warm places will be. So probably some sort of layering with a basis of black pencil skirt, opaques and black suede heels.

I've got a meeting in the morning so will definitely be doing Fab Friday: dressed and made up and out the door early which is unusual for me these days.:D

Hope everyone's coping with the weather. It's wet and grey here but sounds like Manchester area and further north are really suffering with snow. Keep safe all.:)

I had a good session at gym today, slightly heavier weights and/or more repetitions, but I am absolutely shattered now. I only do strength work to build my weak muscles, not cardio, so don't get very sweaty and wear just a tiny bit of make up.

Does anyone else just wish that someone would wave a magic wand and plan and prepare meals for them for a week or so? I think that it is the mental effort as much as the physical sometimes:( Home made pizza and salad tonight I think as I need to keep eating gluten every day for the time being, had better go and get the bread maker going with the dough (I would really just like to have a Nana nap:rotfl:)

I hope that everyone is safe and warm and don't have too many hazardous journeys to make, take care:)

  • I need my highlights doing too. I'm also lucky that I don't have much grey (although there are quite few strands now amongst the brown). I went to over 50s class today at gym. Bit of aerobics and bit of Pilates. I have to be careful with the Pilates as I do suffer from neck problems so I don't get too enthusiastic.

maman I love that you came up with "had it done on holiday" fib - I have to confess I've used that one myself before now - different hairdresser though, so I may get away with it again with this one! :D
silvasava it might be worth having a google to see what blonde tones are recommended for grey hair? Maybe some makes/colours take better than others.
Marginally more productive today - fabbed but no make up! Still can't shake off the gloom, but looking out at the weather, it's hardly any wonder! Ugh!
Have a good evening everyone x

I think there comes a point with white/grey hair where colour stops improving - I remember that my mum got to the stage where her 'highlights' looked dirty against her white/grey hair. You're close enough to go to my (ruinously expensive) hairdresser, and I can give you her details (and get you a 20% discount) if you want to give her a try...

I need a housekeeper. Work makes me too tired to do the domestic stuff.

    Afternoon!!
We have quite a bit of snow here, it has been chaos out on the roads. Luckily I have not had to go out, normally I food shop on a Thursday but we have plenty in so i'm not risking it. The log burner is lit and roaring away and i've made some flapjack :) not sure if to have some leftover lasagne or chili for tea or do breaded fish with veg and mash.
I don't think OH will mind either way provided he gets food :rotfl:

There won't be much fabbing for myself this evening as I need to clean the bathroom and hang a load of washing around. All being well I should get most of tomorrow afternoon to myself, so will finish any bits of cleaning and then have a lovely hot bath and fab.

Well done to those who have lost weight and hugs to anyone still under-the-weather or in need!!

Sorry to jump on the thread, long time lurker but not too great at joining in.

I was platinum white before I suffered severe breakage and fall out from stress (part of the reason I'm on this thread!) so in agreement with my hairdresser I felt it best to go back to my natural colour. He said the problem is because all the pigment had been removed to make it so pale there is nothing for the dye to stick to. He said the only way to get the colour to stick is to run a copper tone through the hair to give something to stick to. This may be the problem you are having.

I would advise advice from a hairdresser, but I noticed in Boots they actually now sell a product designed to add pigment back into the hair. You can get it in the yellow tone or the copper tone which I believe is the same technique the hairdresser used, then use your normal colour on top so it has a base to grab onto. My hair didn't come out looking brassy or bronze, so maybe something to try?

    I hope you find a solution :)

    Good Evening Fabbers,

Got all my basic fabbing routine done this morning, rest of the day spent home fabbing etc.

have a safe and warm evening everyone

    Regards
    :j
  • I've been so enjoying reading the daily email digest but have had trouble logging in and replying - I've no idea what the problem is.

Bad week for fabbing activities as I've had to go into work with an evil migraine - but at least my nails look great!!
