Good to see you GreenT you are doing great and I hope you will continue to join in with us.

LL - who started this thread is away ATM, hopefully having a fantastic holiday seeing new places and getting some sun (much deserved too:D), I hope that she will want to continue challenging herself and keeping us up to the mark at the end of the year. It is a great place to be and I would miss it very much.

I'm another that's been there with the onions!:rotfl:My DH hates to see this (not me being dishevelled, he's used to that). He thinks I look like I've had a good cry. He's volunteered to chop them for me but it's not always convenient. I've even considered frozen, chopped onions but the mse in me won't let me.

I'm sure we will have a new thread. We'll sort it out when LL gets back. I often think massive threads can be a bit off-putting for new people so I think a new one for the new year would be a great idea.

I'm still managing to keep up the body lotion 'although it's not summer' greent, so pleased with that and I'm still using footcream after my shower. I'm also just coming to the end of the self tanner that I mix with it so haven't needed any tinted moisturiser yet and arms and legs still a good colour. They're not big things in themselves but it does make me feel I'm making an effort for proper grooming.

Good idea to limit clothes shopping until you lose weight. Have you a plan? I'm a Slimming World convert but there's lots of ways. LL is trying paleo and I have friends who've had great success with 5:2.

I did find one website that made sense but it didn't name the colours after the seasons. I ended up as a 'soft' woman. I think it meant muted shades but I thought soft in the head!:rotfl: I think I'll google some more.

Off out this evening. Only a pub meal but it's worth making an effort with smart casual. As it's wet and blowy outside I'll wear my Puffa parka (navy) and then match up to that. Strangely, it's still quite mild here (15 degrees) so I'm still favouring the top and small cardi combination rather than thick woolly jumper. I think that's coming at the end of the week!

That'll be the Colour me Beautiful approach - they use what they call "tonal directions" rather than the "seasons" approach used by House of Colour.

If you can work out which season you think you are, there's a great online shop called Kettlewell that colour codes all it's stock so you can filter on your season. They also have a good blog on colour and style. As they were established by someone who went to a colour consultant they don't really try to help you self diagnose, but looking at their models might give you some hints of what different types look like. You can also use their "shop by colour" palettes to show you a good range of colours in each season. They focus on the seasonal approach but do explain tonal directions too.

If you are going to self diagnose, I would say sitting in front of a window in daylight with no make up and any dyed hair tied back and putting different clothes against your skin with an honest friend to tell you what they think would be the best route. Black is a key colour. Only winters can pull it off, most of us look drained by it, me included. I was pretty sure I couldn't be summer either as I had been told by a make up counter my skin was warm toned, which means autumn or spring. My eyes have yellow flecks amongst the green too which was another clue I had to be warm.

Note although I mentioned my colour consultant thought I was more likely to be autumn or winter due to my dark eyebrows, I equally know some blonde with light eyebrows who are autumns and winters. I asked my colour consultant if she could tell just by looking at someone what they were going to be with any degree of accuracy and she said no - in between dyed hair, wrong makeup, fake tan, wrong clothes etc, often not that easy to tell. Some people are very typical of their season, but some of us aren't as obvious. Have also heard of colour consultants getting it wrong mind you - people going back years later to someone different as they weren't happy with the colours, only to be told it was because the original diagnosis was wrong.

Thanks for the reminder. I've got some multi vitamins in my kitchen cupboard too (but fortunately no green slime!). I put them there thinking I'd be more likely to remember to take them. It obviously didn't work!

Thanks for taking the trouble to explain all about the colours indie. I'm not averse to having it done professionally but I wanted to dip a toe in DIY first. Although my hair is highlighted, it's not too far away from the original mouse. I might give the in front to of mirror idea a try but it sounds scary. How did you find your consultant?

Yesterday the rain stopped magically so instead of parka I went out in short, black (biker style?) jacket and skinny black jeans with an orangey red top. Lovely compliment from a friend who said I looked very 'on trend' and much younger. I know it's because I can wear things like that now rather than big, baggy stuff to hide myself.

House fabbing happening today. Dining room painting is finished so we're tackling recovering the chairs. DH will help as it's easier with two people and a staple gun!

House of Colour have a search function on their website which I used.

Also Kettlewell have one on theirs which seems to pick up consultants from other companies like Colour me Beautiful as well as the HOC one.

I know I am a bit evangelical about getting colours done but it honestly made a huge difference to me. I am not the most confident sort but I wear quite bold colours compared to pretty much all my friends as I know it suits me, and I've had so many more complements on my appearance since I had it done than I ever had before - including from complete strangers.

Still pleased with my coat and boots. Today I was out in torrential rain and was warm and dry in my coat and even after a full day wearing them my new boots were super comfy :D

Maybe some of you can help with lunch ideas? I usually have a wholemeal bread sandwich however I was thinking of other non heated lunches that are quick and easy to eat. In general my meals are quite carb orientated so I am trying to increase my protein and fruit/veg intake.

This weekend I have scheduled in some me time which I am looking forward to and I am hoping to book a hair cut at some point too as the front needs a tidy. My main focus this week though will be getting enough sleep.

    Thanks for the links:).

Nothing wrong with being evangelical. It's good to pass something on that's worked for you. I'm the same with Slimming World. It's the one and only 'diet' that I've ever tried and it's so much based on healthy eating (and of course, proved so successful for me) that I've become their No.1 fan!:o

Rummer, I'd love a link to your new boots. I need a comfy pair. At the moment I've got a knee length pair that are smart but not super comfy and two pairs of ankle boots with heels again smart but certainly not for walking around all day in. My final pair are very comfy and warm but not smart. They're not exactly hiking boots but not far off.:rotfl:

I'd suggest soup for lunch especially as the weather's turning colder. My favourite is lentil and veg so exactly the sort of ingredients you need. I make a load in my slow cooker and freeze in portions. Other than that I almost always have some carbs so perhaps a jacket potato with favourite filling being cottage cheese at the moment with lots of beetroot on the side. Scrambled egg is another favourite but more inclined to have that at breakfast time.

Hi Rummer in one of the Hairy Bikers diet books there's a really lovely smoked mackerel salad that I try and have at least once a week. Off the top of my head it's red onion, light mayo, yoghurt, mackerel, cherry toms on a bed of rocket, spinach and watercress. I can get the proper measurements for you if you would like and the dressing is nice with chicken as well.
Today I am wearing nail varnish, I never wear nail varnish and I am going out to buy a lovely grey one that my DD1 has been wearing this week.
My nails are very short and stubby :) but I keep looking at them, purple and sparkly, and it's making me smile
