Frugal Frump to Fab - 2015

Happy new year and happy new thread everyone!
Just dropping by to say it's the weekend and I have makeup on! Fabbing in 2015 is off to a good start!"I don’t keep up with the Joneses, I try to drag them down to my level" - Quentin Crisp0 -
Normal Saturday morning bathroom routine complete
Shower (using unscented shower gel I recently purchased for Saturday use)
Wash and condition hair
Facial wash
Deodorant (goes without saying really)
Light moisturiser on face
Heavier moisturiser on elbows (realised this may be a way to use it up!)
Argan oil on ends of hair (was sceptical when I bought, but does seem to stop the ends drying out)
Baby talc
Teeth brushed
Swilled with mouthwash (using up the lake I seem to have stockpiled despite never using on a regular basis)
And a spray of my expensive perfume (hence the unscented shower gel - no way I'm mixing it with something else that has a strong smell!)Cheryl0 -
Right......
This is all about Eating the Eleohant - one bite at a time.
I have a mountain to climb this year, so I have set my goals of what I want to achieve by the end of 2015. It's quite a tall order but I think I'm up to the task.
As I mentioned before my goals this year are to get fit and healthy and to find somewhere to live. I've decided that this a bit too vague and I need to be more focussed. I've also decided to break it down into easy steps so that I can measure my progress.
So I shall break the steps down into small monthly targets.
As the title above suggests I have designated January as the month when I "jettison the junk".
1. No junk or convenience food
2. No more junk bank accounts, time to switch them and start earning some decent interest.
3. No junk tv or media, no idly surfing the net. I will do something more constructive with my time.
4. No more junk in the house - time for a final clear out and get rid of all the excess stuff. If I can't sell it, well that's just too bad, I shall give it away, or take it to the tip.
My targets for 31st Jan
1. Lose 6lbs
2. Have changed bank accts
3. Have cleared back bedroom to create a proper study
No 3 is the big one - there is a lot of stuff in there to wade through.
There now it's all written down. I'm committed and you are my witnesses......
Be sure to kick me up the derrière if I fail to meet my objectives.0 -
If you go on the amazon site and enter free paleo books into 'search' there are lots for you to down load for free. HTH
Iris - thanks for that. I will investigate this tonight.
But for now it's finally stopped raining so time for that walk and then going to have a go at some Paleo baking.0 -
LL - if you can't sell it - post it on Freecycle then it goes to someone who wants it & they collect it too!
I think you have the right idea of breaking down your targets into smaller more achievable 'chunks' of the elephant!
DS1 is also 'junking' his bank account & registered with Topcashback too.
My target for January will be to lose 2lb - not a lot but as I'm so close to my 'natural' weight I find it very difficult to shift the last few pounds. If I manage more it will be a bonus.
I'll weight myself first thing tomorrow morning & update my signature :eek:Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

I think that's taking Paleo way too far!!:rotfl:Morning everyone,
I am afraid to say I'm still in my PJs ! I've been taking all the decorations down but I did find time to slap on some daily moisturiser. All done now so just having a coffee and a catch up before I go and get dressed, put on some make up, have a squirt of my favourite perfume and go food shopping. So many times I've gone shopping in....
SNAP!! That was me until 10 minutes ago! DH is out (so much for helping me;)) so I took down all the decorations then had my shower and a bit of pampering, cleaned the bathroom (I always do this while the body lotion's sinking in) blow dried my hair and at last I'm dressed!
I haven't really made any firm resolutions except that we absolutely must work through the house getting it in better decorative order. It's not major work, just scruffy and I'm not comfortable because of it. I'm planning to declutter at the same time.
I bought 2 pairs of jeans from Sainsbury's yesterday to replace the ones I'm wearing. It's a style I like but I've decided they're going back. I'm pruning my wardrobe back to good quality items that I really like and I'm going to avoid slipping into the ease of buying things from supermarkets. I tried Next last year but they (literally) started coming apart at the seams so I had to take them back. I like straight (or not too skinny) and I need long length. Shops seem to have very few of these. Any ideas?
I'd definitely agree that having your hair done regularly is a must. Even with longer styles, it's such a help to the shape and condition. I know it can be expensive but there's always Groupon or maybe local colleges. I'm also a convert to eyebrow waxing. It makes me look awake as well as better groomed.
Weather's grim and grey here, barely stopped raining all day.

Your comment about Arian oil has reminded me to decanter some Elemis Frangipani Monoi Melt into a tub to be used on my cuticles at work. Have an empty Clinique Moisture Surge pot at the ready.lessonlearned wrote: »Right......

We got rid of three bags worth of junk yesterday from the loft when we put the Christmas decorations away. Am taking some blankets and a board game into work on Monday to see if anyone there wants them. If not I'll take them to CS.LL - if you can't sell it - post it on Freecycle then it goes to someone who wants it & they collect it too!

That last 2lb can be tricky to shift. Good luck xxBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Maman - I'm 5'11'' & always used to buy my trousers & jeans from LTS - but at £50.00 a pop just couldn't do it after I retired. I now buy Asda jeans - I'm picky which ones 'cos i like straight but not skinny but the lengths are good for me & they change their ranges often so its always worth looking. Although i did manage a pair of Gok Wan jersey trousers from Sainsbugs & they're too long even for me - but great with boots.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I do like this thread but I'm not sure that we should label ourselves "frumps" - it's not good for morale! We might have been, but not any more...
I have to dress smartly for work and always wear lipstick - makes such a difference - but I need to get some routines together and stick to them. With the aim of looking more "polished" I would like to work towards the following:- Dye hair more regularly - before the grey roots become too obvious!
- Wash and condition hair every other day - no more leaving it just one more day
- Cleanse, tone and moisturise face every day
- Wear foundation more often - every day at work?
- Use body lotion after every bath
- Keep toenails polished (coloured)
- Keep fingernails polished (clear) and apply hand cream regularly to stop me nibbling the skin!
- Wear perfume every day
- Wear more of my jewellery (I usually wear the same stud earrings)
- Not wear so much black!

Hi, All
Well today has been chicken cleaning out and housework so I have mostly been in my scruffs...however...drum roll....I had to take Little Miss Millie Mops to the vet earlier, and brushed my hair (didn't have time or energy to straighten it again, so tied it back with a hairslide...but not any old hair slide...a sparkly one!), and changed into less scruffy scruffs, a squirt of perfume, some makeup and my new pink duffle.
I doubt the vet got any benefit, but I felt better :T
But I was a bit taken aback when a neighbour who has known me for years walked straight past me, even though I smiled at her. She just didn't recognise me at all out of my normal long black coat
Never mind...so I have been a domestic goddess all day, and am now aiming to relax with a lovely spag bol, and a film in front of the fire. with candles lit. Bliss!
Enjoy your evenings
