Welcome. Back Maman, glad you had a nice holibob.

Not much news here at the moment. I'm just pottering about, enjoying the fine weather.

I have some house viewings this weekend, so fingers crossed.

Diet is not going well at all. I Will give it another couple of weeks and if I dont see any progress I will join a slimming club.

Yesterday I royally slipped up and ended up eating too much wheat. Spent half the night in the bathroom and am still feeling pretty grim....

I really need to stop deluding myself. I cannot eat wheat, it makes me ill.

Going to,get myself fabbed up and see if I can find my dream house.....;)
  • Hi lessonslearned,

I just wanted to comment on the diet/wheat thingy.

I am trying to do 5:2. While I don't have any digestive issues I have noticed a real difference when I do eat wheat I find it doubly hard to control my eating and appetite. For example, day before yesterday was a fast day for me. I sailed through with a salad plus sunflower seeds, handful of almonds and numerous cups of tea - no more than 500 calories in all. Yesterday was a 'feast' day. I started off having a 1/2 a bowl of shredded wheat and struggled all day to not go bonkers, on top of that I felt lethargic and only just about managed to stay within my calorie limit. I love bread, grains and cereals, so while I am not ready to give it up entirely, it seems some of us are very sensitive to its effects.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

tooth care is so important. I have a real fear of the dentist however I now go every three months to get my teeth cleaned and every six months I get checked by the dentist. In the interim I have a wide array of things to use to keep my teeth in order.
You're absolutely right Rummer - I'm also phobic (especially about injections) and am so careful about cleaning, etc, to avoid anything beyond a check up - have even managed to avoid the teeth cleaning by extra careful brushing - the area just behind your lower front teeth (in front of the tongue) is where saliva is produced. The dentist at the local dental hospital told me to concentrate on there as that's where plaque builds up quickest. On the very rare occasions I need treatment they send me to the hospital for gas and air. I know I could get that at the dentist but I'm too nervous!
    Looking ahead

Shandyclover - very interesting reading your wheat comments.

I got all fabbed up to go and view some houses and I have had to cancel. I just feel so rotten.

The joke is i am actually craving some bread.......it's crazy isn't it. I thnk not only am I wheat intolerant im also addicted to the stuff.

If I leave it completely alone im fine, if I eat a tIny bit IM fine, but if I overstep my limit then Im in trouble. Problem is I don't know where the line is.

I guess the answer is just don't eat the stuff....

So now I'm going to go back to avoiding all grains and start again. Hopefully I shoukd feel ok again within a few days but for now the stomach cramps are awful. I'm also feeling drained and very lethargic. I'm just going to take it easy. I also have a thrush flare up, so again this is probably down to yeast.....

I know ive said it before but this time I really think I've finally learned my lesson. The hard way of course.;)

    Hello everyone,

I would like to stop lurking and join in this excellent thread. I really let myself go after a difficult break up a couple of years ago. Two years ago I was always nicely dressed, had my hair cut every six weeks, always wore a bit of makeup, ate well and exercised a lot. I was a different person.

Now I don't do any of that and I'm over a stone heavier. I am under five feet tall so this look terrible. I have a lot of really lovely, expensive clothes that don't fit any more! I wasted a lot of money on clothes etc and never saved. I have found MSE and have done really well saving and have completely changed my financial ways for the better. Now I need to do the same to my appearance :-)

I feel ashamed of how I look and avoid going out. I don't take care of myself any more. I am 36 next month and it makes me sad that I probably won't have children. I'd love a partner but I know I need to feel better about myself first. I hope that posting here will help keep me on track. I can't decide if I should just ebay all of the clothes and buy new ones that actually fit or try to get rid of the extra weight and fit back into them. I think the latter might motivate me more..

Today I have made a start. I did my awful grey roots at home then had my first hair cut in six months. It looks a lot better! My hair is very dry and frizzy so I need to look for an MSE deep conditioning treatment.

I have also moisturised my feet, hands and face. It's a good start.

    Welcome!!

    It's a good start.

So pleased you've come out of lurkdom and made a start. I'd agree that losing the weight to get into your expensive clothes is probably the best way forward. When they fit then you can decide whether you still like them all and make a decision about ebay then. I know that when I put on weight I kept just a few expensive things and they are still firm favourites now that I can get into them again. I still miss a few others that I sent to CS.

A stone isn't a huge amount to lose and 5:2 seems the simplest way but personally I can't recommend SW enough. You could try the sample week's menus on the website and that should get rid of a couple of pounds at least.

You're certainly not too old for a family so don't give up just yet:). I'm not going to try giving relationship advice but I'm sure if you just focus on feeling good about yourself it's more likely to happen.

Talking of creaming feet: I saw in Aldi's yesterday that they have big pots of aqueous cream for £2.99. I'm still using up various creams otherwise I'd buy some myself.

Today I've been tackling the ironing mountain that I built from my holiday washing. A couple of things are off to the CS and I need to rethink my sunshine holiday wardrobe a bit. I've tended to wear maxi dresses in the evenings as they're cool and floaty but this year I noticed far more people wearing short dresses and patterned trousers. I'll keep an eye on trends for next year.

Sorry to hear you didn't feel up to the house viewings LL. I think you're wise to cut right back on the wheat. On SW (sorry I go on about it so much:o) I just have one slice of wholemeal a day OR a small portion of cereal. Lots of my friends prefer to cut it out completely as they can't stop at that ( a bit like shandy says) but in your case, as it makes you ill, I'd definitely give it up.

I did Fab Friday yesterday. It's been great to come home to sunshine so I wore a floaty Zara silk skirt with a lime green sleeveless top.

Now I've got some colour from the sun I plan to keep it! I bought some gradual tanning lotion yesterday (Garnier at £3 in Sainsbury's on offer) and I find if I mix that 50:50 or 30:70 with body lotion after a shower it keeps my tan topped up. better still we'll have some sun here for the next couple of months!

Thanks for the lovely warm welcome :j I suppose it could be worse but a stone is a lot of weight for someone as short as me. I look like a particularly tubby hobbit at the moment. :rotfl: I definitely need to feel better about myself before I look for a boyfriend.

I have just done 15 mins of a yoga DVD I bought a year ago and never tried. I did a lot of yoga classes two years ago and loved it. I had to stop after 15 mins because I was shaking and sweating like a pig! It has made me realise how unfit I've got. It's a bit upsetting but I've made a start. I'm going to look for some beginners videos on youtube because I obviously can't just pick up where I left off. 15 mins a day is do-able and I have to start somewhere..:T I haven't done any exercise for so long, it will get easier. :o

Thanks for the SW recommendation. I've had a look at the website and it looks really good, I like the focus on sustainable change. I definitely need a lifestyle change. I'm not sure about joining because of the cooking involved. It sounds silly but I live in a horrible house share at the moment and can't use the kitchen properly because of other people's mess. I also hate going in there because I never get to use it on my own. I don't like the people I live with and just want privacy so I hide in my room and eat rubbish. This is a big part of the problem. It's a temporary situation and something I had to do to save a deposit. I think it's going to last at least another three months though. I think the 5:2 thing would be easier until I get a kitchen back.

    Welcome to the thread sofarbehind!

Just try and become more active - you have made a step in the right direction with the yoga dvd - but how about going out for a short walk every day if you can?

It is good idea to keep the clothes until you lose the weight. You can make a decision on whether to keep or get rid of the items at that point. :)

    Good morning everyone

Hello Sofarbehind and welcome to,the thread. Great to see another "de lurker"

I agree - don't throw your nice clothes away. Just adopt a wait and see approach. I have done this in the past and then regretted it. Parting with tatty unloved or unflattering "mistakes" is one thing but if you have some nice good quality pieces it's worth hanging on for a while.

I have parted with some really lovely clothes in the past and how I wish I hadn't.

Well I'm pleased to say I feel much better today, my tummy is a lot happier. I have a lot of muscle pain this morning but again I,think that is down to a gluten overload so hopefully that will ease off eventually. So just a few gentle stretches and try and loosen up.

I'm afraid Ive not done much exercise recently and I too am disgustingly unfit. I am struggling to do even the most basic yoga, I can barely manage my ohysio exercises at the moment. I'm not walking enough either.

Sofabehind - you are not alone. I'm probably in a worse state than you at the moment. Never mind we will all work together and spur each other on. We will get there.

    Fabulousity awaits. :D

At least I e learned a very valuable lesson this week. Wheat and I don't mix.......I have no choice but to kick the wheat habit for good. Not only does it upset my digestive system it also makes my muscle pain flare up, oh and the yeast sets off thrush.

It really is a no brainer........

On the plus side, I have a nice tan, although ive cheated a bit with my legs. Ive been using the Dove gentle fake tan stuff and my legs have seen the light of day, And my toenails are now pretty in pink.

I have Started taking some probiotics - hopefully it will help my poor overloaded digestive system. I already eat plain yoghurt ever day but I think a bit of extra help isn't a bad idea.

I'm off to see a house today and then a BBQ at DS1s, the sun is just trying to break through so hopefully a nice day.
