Frugal Frump to Fab - 2015

Morning everyone,
I really like the concept of accountability on this thread and with regards to weightloss, this is something I'm going to pick up when I get back from my holiday.
I think when you decide to make a life change, you should get on with it rather than saying 'I'll start in the new year/when I get back from holiday' etc, but I only go on holiday once a year......
I go on holiday in a weeks time and final fabbing preparations are underway. My feet have pretty much stopped peeling and I have lovely smooth feet. I'm booking my waxing for this weekend and then I'll be ready to go.
I have really spotty skin and I've been trying some different products over the past 18 months and I think I've finally found a regime which works for me. My skin isn't brilliant, but I think its as good as its ever going to get. The newest addition is a Lush product (let the good times roll cleanser).
Some more good news. I spoke with the bank about getting a better deal on the mortgage and have managed to save £200 a month!!! We bought our house just as the economy started to get bad so we didn't have much choice in terms of mortgage. We are on interest only, so we are going to plough the saving into repayments. The reason we haven't done so before, is because we've had to pay nursery fees, but we only have a year to go before DD starts school, so we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm now determined to fab up our home. I've been eyeing up soft furnishing and I'm determined to get at least one room repainted this summer.0 -
That's great news re the mortgage Chanie - what a big difference!
Happy house fabbing:)
I'm still eyeing up the Lush products but the new MSE me is balking a bit at the prices! Once upon a time I'd have paid those kind of sums for a moisturiser and not thought twice about it but these days I find myself asking if they would really be any better than good old Nivea:D
I like the ethics of Lush though - I don't know; maybe I could be swayed!
No other fabbing to report I'm afraid - still working at keeping the black dog at bay - I've had a walk though, and am resolved not to eat anything but fruit between meals today, and keep up my water intake; all the small steps help.
Have a good day all x0 -
Great news about the over payments chanie. Enjoy your holiday and then come back and hit the healthy eating with a vengeance. It won't work without treats (if you deprive yourself too much you'll give up) so just look at your holiday as a big treat!!
ellsbel, I really would recommend eating as much veg (rather than fruit) as possible. So when you next come to shop I'd factor in carrots, celery etc for snacking rather than fruit. I have this theory that sugar is sugar however natural so best to keep it as low as possible.
When it comes to beauty products I think mse sometimes has to take a backward step if cheap stuff doesn't suit. And I think there's a place for treating yourself (as above;)). Personally, my skin is perfectly happy with the Expert moisturiser from Aldi (about £3.99 IIRC) and it's a cheap experiment. If it doesn't work you can always use it for elbows, feet and knees. I love their body lotion too especially the maroon bottle for mature skin.
This thread helped me again today. I was feeling a bit CBA and wasn't going to wash my hair but I though I know I won't look fab if I leave it another day so I did it. Feel much better as a result.
I noticed the Garnier fake tan stuff was only £2.50 in Asda even though I thought £3 in Sainsbury's was good.0 -
Hi everyone
Sat in my garden with my iPad, sun shining, bees buzzing, my little boyfriend, Gabriel next door chattering away to his granny, the cat curled up under my deckchair. Life is good........
This mornimg i washed and styled my hair, tidied my eyebrows, and given myself a deep cleansing face mask....so feel really fab at the moment.
Going to tootle down to the little shop to buy some vegetables to go with the lamb for tonight. Home grown raspberries for pud so all nice and healthy.
chanie. That is great news about the mortgage and the savings you will be able to make. Fabbing up your home neednt break the bank and it's great fun.
I love house fabbing........it gets my creative juices flowing. Same with garden fabbing.
Ds2s garden is looking so pretty now and ive spent no more than about £60. I'm going to have to rethink the raspberry canes though, they are just too prolific, they need to come out and I need to rethink, that corner. They can remain until after they've been harvested.
Right time to get cracking. When I get back from the shops I will put my shorts on and get some sun on my old bones. It's working wonders for my aches and pains.
I'm feeling much better now that im firmly off the grains. This time it's for good......no gojng back this time.0 -
You ladies are all doing really well! I'm afraid I'm letting the side down...
I've moved to a new office for two weeks (maybe permanently, we'll see how it goes) but my gym is by my old work and is a 45 min train journey from the new place, and then a 30 min journey after that to home, so I haven't been going. I'm itching to get to the gym but I really don't want to add all that extra travelling to the end of my day.No more goo hoarding!

Pirate I don't blame you for not wanting to go the gym. Could you move to a gym closer to work.
Lessons - I'm envious of the lovely day you are having, it sounds wonderful. I want to buy some new tea/coffee/sugar jars and I've seen some nice ones in Next, but they are more delicate than the ones I have at the moment and everything in our house gets broken, so I'm not sure if I should get them or wait until the children are a bit older.
Maman - I totally agree with the MSE taking a backseat when it comes to fabbing. Its taken me years to find products I like and that work. I do however, stock up whilst the products I use are on offer though, so I still do think I'm MSE!!!0 -
Hello everyone,
It's great to hear about everyone's fabbing efforts. Well done! I think it's fine to treat yourself to some lush products / anything that's a bit more of a splurge provided you promise to use it regularly. If that encourages you to moisturise Ellsbel you should probably buy it. Out of interest how are you getting on with kicking the diet coke habit? It's something I need to do but I'm struggling.
I have done another 30 mins of yoga and enjoyed looking at my painted toes while doing it! They're lasting quite well.
I wore a dress to work on Monday but just felt like a fat lump. Maybe I need to find a CS bargain to see me through. I might try again tomorrow. Oh and I've ordered a new duvet cover from ASDA because mine are very old and tatty.Mortgage overpayments 2018: £4602, 2019: £7870

Always encouraging to check into this thread! I've been keeping up with using rice milk soap as a cleanser and, so far, it's been great. I'd thought it might be drying but it's anything but. Also keeping up with the coconut oil hair treatments and am really noticing a difference. Plus I found a cheaper place to stock up so am happy with that.
Still waiting for the foot "peel" stuff to arrive and feeling a little nervous about using it - anyone had any bad reactions to it?
Had an important meeting to attend and for once was able to find the right outfit within a couple of minutes this morning which is a major improvement. Courtesy of the KonMari thread - can't recommend it enough!Looking ahead0 -
Talk about late to the party but I love this thread - wish I'd seen it before! I too feel far more frump than fab, well done everyone on going for what you want!0

Hello ladies, can i please join in?
I've put on 1 st and 4 lbsin the last year. Really let my skincare regimen go. As a result i feel like queen of frump, have spotty legs (ingrown hairs' scars
), patchy skin and some new freckles! Oh I really feel dissappointed in myself, I've been so stressed I've let myself go so much. And of course comfort eating became my new hobby. On a brighter note, I've managed to lost 4 lbs in last one and a half months
Now I need to keep going until I'm at a healthy weight and get my skin&bodycare situation sorted.
I really like the idea of keeping ourselves accountable with this thread.
So firstly I'll start wearing perfume everyday
Try to exercise and put a limit to chocolate/icecream,etc.
Must start asap with skin&bodycare as I'm going on hols in August!:eek:No buying unnecessary toiletries challenge
