Love the top and scarf, maman:) very chic!
Hi liltdiddylilt:) well done on achieving so much fabbiness! Is it a special diet you're following or just general healthy eating?
No fabbing here today :(. On the plus side though I've had a nice, chilling day at home - all 4 of us as eldest has been home from uni for the weekend to go to the FA cup final with his Dad and Brother.
He's going back tomorrow but home for the Summer break from next weekend, so that'll be nice:)
Off to bed in a bit - hope everyone has a peaceful night's rest x

LessonsLearned, I think the first year of grieving is often the most difficult. There always seems to be a little of 'this time last year' around. Rowan, you sound like you really need a little time to be able to continue with caring for your mum. I hope some calm returns to both your lives soon.

Re fabbing I was plucking my eyebrows last night with the light shining on my face. Oh my goodness, the state of my skin, it's a disgrace. Firstly I need to find a good skin scrub and also start drinking loads of water. I feel quite embarrassed.

On a positive note I weighed myself Saturday and was only 11st 6lbs. I thought I had gone back up to 12st. It's given me a good boost to carry on.

Fab ladies, thank you for all your good wishes re my Mum. Went to see her yesterday, she will be kept in for at least a week and my daughter (24) is going in to visit her, so we are off in hols today.

I'm taking you all with me to norfolk :)

Liltdiddylilt welcome. I've just started working for the Alzheimers Society and wonder if you are getting help from them. There are support workers to give help and advice, memory cafe's, singing groups and all sorts of things that might be useful for your Mum.

On the fabbing front, off to shave my legs as the sun is out here so my legs may also be coming out :) May put some fake tan on too. Got a few new clothes and toiletries for my hols, and Eat Pray Love DVD to watch so a nice escape from reality.

    Have a fab Monday everyone.

Hi everyone, back from my 3 weeks hols in Scotland, catching up on all the washing and need to start fabbing again. On a good note my hyper sensitive skin is almost healed, all medical tests to date come back clear of nasty's and appointments have come through for seeing two more consultants. The not so good is that I have had a poorly tum for a few days and have lost even more weight (don't want to be any thinner - too haggard), trying to eat tiny amounts often today.

Virtual hugs to LL and Rowan and anyone else in need of some.

Lilty - great to see you here, and doing so well. I am interested in your diet and exercise regime from the pain relief perspective, I do know a little about the ketogenic way of eating, but am already very low carb (health not weight) and don't want to loose any more weight.

Parsniphead- may I suggest very, very gentle products, but regularly for the facial scrub, so many things on the market are so harsh and may cause problems in the future. LL may have some lovely natural solutions to suggest if she is around.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum Rowan but am really glad that you can still go on your holiday. As everyone one else said, whilst your mum is being looked after is the best time to go. I feel for you, especially as my mum is in the exact same position as you are with her mum. Unfortunately she lives in the midlands whereas I am in London so I'm not much help.

Tried to dye my hair this weekend and it all ended up going terribly wrong. I now how vibrant red roots and darker ends. Not quite sure what I can do, and I have a hen do to go to at the weekend so need to get it sorted sharpish. I am also having a wisdom tooth removed next week which I am nervous about!
    No more goo hoarding!

Pirateyqueen could you bite the bullet and go to a salon to get your hair fixed? I know it's pricey but maybe you have one nearby that runs a special offer; you know, like with those groupon vouchers?I hate dentist appointments so I sympathise with your nerves, but I'm sure it'll go OK.
Will probably sink back into lurkdom for a few days as I'm feeling very low, unfabby and irrelevant :(
I'll be here in spirit though - hope to be back posting something worthwhile soon! Hugs all x

Thank you maddiemay. I tend to go for the rougher textures and being very heavy handed I'm probably doing more harm than good.

I really need to start drinking much more water which will help.

You guys have led me astray. Since joining this thread I have been shopping and got one pair of jeans, one pair of trousers, one shirt and three t shirts. I did need them though, especially the t shirts as I threw all mine out during the winter. Oh and I forgot, one eyeliner and a tube of foundation.:)

    Hi guys

    Thanks for the welcome! :)

Ellsbell sorry you are feeling so low. You are never irrelevant :) my diet is ketogenic, which is incredibly low carb, high fat and medium protein. It centres around the reasoning that repeated ups and downs of blood sugar force our insulin levels to do the same, and this creates stress in our brains. Since carbs are the reason for the increase in blood sugars, cutting them out gives your brain a rest from the insulin spikes, and keeping your insulin levels steady has fab health benefits, not to mention gives you a lot of energy and stops you feeling as hungry. Ketogenic is the lowest end of the low carb scale, and happens when you restrict carbs to 100g a day or less. It occurs in higher forms the less carbs you eat. It reprogrammes your body to burn off fat, both dietary and stored within your body. This creates an energy source called ketones, which are great for providing an efficient source of energy. They are not able to be stored in the body once being converted so if they are not used you excrete them in urine (sorry TMI) and you can test for this on things called ketostix, but take that with a pinch of salt. I use them occasionally to check I am on the right track but the scales tell me I am. The weight loss is a by-product of trying to be healthy and trying to cure migraines without the horrific side effects from Zolmitriptan medication.

maddiemay check out The Primal Blueprint. It is along the same lines as ketogenic and keeps you in a low level of ketosis but you can access more carbs (good quality) to maintain your weight. I can;t wait to be able to switch to that and see if I can still control the migraines but not lose weight. Right now I have another 24lbs to go though! I am following a lot of the primal blueprint stuff then staying more strict on my diet :)

Rowan thank you. My mum has access to a lot of help from social services who have been involved from the beginning due to various issues with my mums dad that overspilled into diagnosing and helping my Nanny. She has just started (fighting tooth and nail not to) to go to a daycare centre to give her conversation and something to do/get up for as she is slipping away very fast since my Pop passed away.

pirateyqueen if you can pick up some apple cider vinegar from the supermarket (it is cheap!) then mix it 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and soak your hair in it. This will bring some of the colour out. It is also a conditioning treatment although people with coloured hair don't use it often due to aforementioned removal of colour! It will smell, but that will disappear once it is dry! Give it 2 days (don't wash it again!) and then dye it again, but apply to the roots first, leave it for 10 minutes, then apply to the rest of your hair and take it off at the right time for the top of your hair. Should hopefully be more even and the vinegar will help to keep it conditioned. :) Cheaper than a salon fix, and tried and tested by yours truly with a couple of incidences of Morticia Adams style black when it should have been brunette ;)

Todays fabbing.. I put nice clothes, make up and perfume on for the nursery run. Felt good :) even if my white jeans have all manner of things from dinner now on them! I've done a LOT of exercise but am pushing myself to make 20k steps which involves dragging in my lovely neighbour to babysit while I stomp the coastline :)

Have a good evening all :) xxx

I hope you're feeling more even soon LL *hugs*

Sorry about your mum Rowan :(

We go on holiday a week tomorrow - to Egypt - so I've just filed my nails down as they were far too long. How they didn't break I don't know although the ends were starting to flake. I don't know whether to polish them or not as I always seem to smudge it in bed (even if I put it on 3 hours before) and I didn't like what Shellac did to my nails.

I am going to book a spray tan though as I am pasty white. That means I'll have to de fuzz and exfoliate religiously this week! So I may ask about polish then; there has to be something in between normal varnish and Shellac that dries fast and wears hard but doesn't knacker your nails in a fortnight!
