As a stay-at-home mum with no earned income, Capital One was the only CC I could get (about 5 years ago). My credit limit was about £600, but it was increased regularly and is now at £4000. I used to save for big items (furniture/holiday/PC etc) by putting money away in a building soc a/c. Buy the goods on my cc and pay off the whole amount the following month from my savings. Within a couple of months Cap One would offer me more credit!
It's helped build me a credit history and I now have the Sainsburys cc for everyday spending and the Virgin cc has my (smallish) BT from Cap One. I'll keep the Cap One going as it has the biggest credit limit and I've found them very good to deal with on the phone."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Yes the people I've spoken to via phone so far have been really great.0

So what would you fill in on the forms when they asked for your employment details? dont you have to have a job to apply for credit cards, loans, etc?0 -

Not necessarily, as I appiled for the Capital One Classic Card and was asked to pay a £200 deposit. I went off into town to pay it in cash (as I don't have a cheque book) but my bank (Halifax) doesn't handle Bank Giro Credits (so they said) and I couldn't find anywhere else to pay it unless I went to the HSBC and paid £5 to do so. In sheer frustration I went back to Halifax and applied for their credit card. I was Immediately accepted for their card at 9 months 0%, a few days later when all the bumpf came through I discovered I had a £1500 limit. a hell of a lot more than what Capital One were offering.
So it might be worth trying your bank. I'm glad I did.0 -
Heard back from Capital One. Have been accepted, signed terms and conditions and waiting to hear what card I have been offered. Incidentally, was turned down by my bank for a card ...crazy!0

Barclay Card also accepted me back in January and I'm also a SAHM with no earned income. I also have a terrible credit record dating back 5 years ago when my ex did a bunk leaving me with a mortgage and nearly £20K worth of debts.
We had a repossesion order, defaults, the lot. All of which will remain on my credit report until next year.
They gave me a £300 limit, which is probably terribly low for some people but it's great for me and I'd only get worried about it if they gave me any more.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -

What interest rate did they give you?0 -
25.9% which doesn't bother me much as I make sure the balance is paid off in full every month anyway.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
