  • Two, but they are both a long way away from me. None here where I live.

    I've been Money Tipped!
One I am very close to and then a further 6 or so I know I could call on in an emergency.
  • None.
I have lots of people I am in contact with either through choir or church or voluntary work but can't say they are friends, though they might become friends in time. I hope so.
I keep in touch with friends from the past, former colleagues, people I used to see often, even uni friends, but we rarely meet, so it is by email or facebook, or just a Christmas card. If we meet, we can just pick up where we left off.
I would like to have someone, other than family, who I could just meet for coffee, or speak to if I need help, but it is not so easy to progress from acquaintances to friends.

My husband is my best friend, other than that I would say I have maybe 4 close friends, who I know would drop anything if I needed them.

Theres plenty of people I know and have a laugh with and see them as friends, but true friends who I can rely on for advice, 2 people.
  • About 4 close friends, 3 good friends who I've known for a long time but have drifted apart from, a few people who I've met fairly recently but can see myself becoming good friends with in time, and numerous acquaintances who I'm friendly with but wouldn't class as 'Friends'.
There are also two or three people who I met at university and probably know and understand me better than anyone in the world, but due to living in different corners of the world I never see anymore.
I rarely see even my closest friends anymore though, we live in different towns and work and life just gets in the way. I would love to meet more people and make new friends but anxiety issues make it hard.
  • It depends on your definition of a friend? I think it's extremely sad that so many people in the thread have already said none! Surely that must be extremely hard?

I have 2 friends who I treat like brothers, I would be there for them in any situation at any time, and likewise they would do the same. But I have tons of other friends, my football team mates, work mates, old school mates etc. Would I trust them or rely on them in my time of need? No. I don't need to because I have my 2 "brothers" and my family for that. But that doesn't mean I can't be friends with them.

I still enjoy their company a bloody lot when we're out together enjoying ourselves and socialising. They have qualities I enjoy and some I don't, and I'm sure they say the same about me. Life would be pretty boring for me if I just spent time with the same two people all the time.

I think people are are too demanding of each other these days and set standards for "how their friends should be". You just have to be selective about who you trust, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy people who aren't in your inner circle's company.

I have different circles of friends.

Three close friends live a long way from me so I rarely see them, but would turn to any of them in a crisis (would quite happily turn up with a suitcase - that's how I determine a 'close friend'!) and we do try to have a weekend in York together when possible, or head to each others for a weekend.

Another group of three I see fairly often (we've known each other since age 11 at school - was all out the night before last), and one of those overlaps with another group of three I see often too (seeing them Sat).

I have five close friends I also see a lot of (usually together, but sometimes in groups of 2+ - and we try to all get away for city breaks now and again, and a friend and her partner who me & my OH go out with who I've known since I was 9.

I suppose, counting all those, 14. That doesn't include my sister, or 'internet friends' or some work friends that I'm close with (one of whom lives near me and we meet up every month or two).

I don't have kids, so think that makes a big difference. It seems I'm very sociable lol.
