August 2007 Grocery Challenge

  • £2.04 in Morrisons on some brocolli, Greek Yoghurt and Baking Potatoes.

Which leaves £4.66 to last me until 24.08.07 (15 days ).

The freezer, fridge and storecupboards are still well stocked, so I may have to rely on frozen veg and tinned fruit towards the end of the month and see if I can eke the £4.66 out a bit longer.

I have got enough milk to last this weekend and then will buy 2 pints on monday (approx 60p). That should just about last me until next weekend (19/08/07) and then I will have to use the powdered milk I keep in for emergencies.

Reckon I should be able to eke £4.00 out on some fresh veg as i'm only feeding me - £2.00 per week, topped up with some frozen.

I am determined not to go over the £85.00 on my first challenge.

thankyou for showing how to do sig.
well after having a light bulb moment on the 1st of August I have decided - or the decsion was made for me, that I must save myself from sinking any further into this mess.
so this week the food I wouldn't say was brilliant as I haven't done a big shop, but I am below what I have budgeted for a week. Hope I can do it again next week. I think something like this will help. Any advice how to cope the month would be grateful. Thanks

Hi folks, as I,m in funds again, I did my biggish shop for this month. Spent £64.43, but with the use of coupons reduced this to £38.05 (oh and bogofs)
I have enough detergent to last my washings for the month and toiletries, got a lovely stuffed joint of beef reduced to £2.34 and chicken breasts reduced to £2.20. If I,m very good i could live off this all month, except bread and mlk as usual

    Ummmm sillyish question coming up...

How does everyone get so much off their shopping? Where do they get their coupons and was whoever it was (sorry!) correct in saying that you can use coupons in Mr T's as long as the stock the product but you don't have to actually buy the thing the moc is for? Did I get that wrong or right? Sorry If I'm being stupid....

I think most of us would say that the best help is to meal plan and shop with a list. Also check out what you have in your cupboards and freezer and base your meal plan on what you already have; keep all receipts so you can see where your money goes.

A few months ago I wrote a list of meals that I know I like - fairly simple stuff - and I ended up with enough meal ideas for several months! I use that as inspiration if I get stuck wth my meal planning. I included roasts and pasta, pies etc, but also lighter meals like hm soup and crusty bread, scrambled eggs and bacon.

Each of our situations is different - mine is fairly simple as only myself to consider - you need to find a 'system' that works for you. Would you cope better planning for the week or the month? do a weekly or a monthly meal plan; maybe a monthly online shop? again it depends on your circumstances and what storage space you have. Good luck! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
