Oh dear...really think I need to rethink my budget per month as cannot keep to my target at the moment....I think with nappies, baby milk, loads of fruit/veg (and tonnes of bread & milk!!!!!!!) my aim just isn't achievable (for me anyway!)

Went to Sainsbury's yesterday (due to it being the closest supermarket) and spent £104.36!!!! Yes I got nappies (£3 money off coupon) and 2 tins of baby milk (special offer) but the amount I spent is ridiculous!!!!! Thing is...we use everything..I now throw very little away at all!!! By Friday though..the fridge will be bare & I'll have spent another £6-8 on top-up bread, milk & cheese!! My kids love milk & are, at the moment, asking for cheese sandwiches on a daily basis, aswell as having toast & cereal in the morning (more bread!!)

Oh well..no point beating myself up about it...have £46.06 left until the end of August....so I think we can safely assume I've failed the challenge for August (AGAIN!!!!):rotfl:

By Friday though..the fridge will be bare & I'll have spent another £6-8 on top-up bread, milk & cheese!! My kids love milk & are, at the moment, asking for cheese sandwiches on a daily basis, aswell as having toast & cereal in the morning (more bread!!)

My 4 kids are the same especially in the school hoildays, i hide alot of the goodies i buy and always grate the cheese as it goes further than slices, another idea that i do, when i buy a big block of cheese i cut it into piece, then wrap the pieces i need for cooking pizza ect in foil As kids and dh never seem to look inside foil wraped items, then grate a block and put it in a bowl in fridge the kids know if they make a sandwich this is what they use.
Also i find toast and cereal the cheapest snack out, always keep in lots of value bread and value cereal in (choc snaps from tescos are afav here about 49p a pack) make a cheap breaky and great for supper and snacks without breaking the bank.

Today is my big shop day, have shopping list ready and am ready for the off!
I will let you all know later how i did!!!

  • Have had to reduce my budget by £100 as had forgotten to include a credit card bill, dads birthday and neice's 21st birthday!! So shopping budget is now £250.00 instead of £350.00!!! But am so far on £154.41 and have got until August 29th to go. To be honest I should be able to do it.Don't think I have forgotten anything else...best check!!!

  • Just spent £3.70 topping up milk and veg.

Now leaves me with the grand old total of £0.96 to last until 24/08/07, which sounds really bad!

However, I now have enough salad, veg and milk to last until 20/08/07, so will just have to use frozen veg and powdered milk from 21/08/07 to 24/08/07, which isn't too horrendous.

I might also be sneaky and see if I can pop home to my folks one night this week and eat at their house.

I'm setermined to last out until 24/08/07 and will then use my final 96p and treat myself to a bar of choc!

Have just got back from our weekend at the Brecon Jazz Festival and the sun shone nearly all the time! We stayed (first time ever) in the local Youth Hostel (despite definitely being long past our youth!) and it wasn't bad! The bunk beds took a bit of getting used to though! However, the breakfasts were great and the people very friendly.

Had to got to the supermarket this morning for this week's stuff and came in well under budget at £39-09. However, we have visitors all over next weekend so I know that I will be spending more on food and drink when I shop on Friday. Still, I am caustiously optimistic that I will come in on budget by the end of the month, even if not by much.

I have to say that taking cash to pay and leaving the cc at home focusses the mind wonderfully. I remembered the calculator this time and added it all up as I went along which helped a lot.

Good luck to all the new challengers. And thanks everyone for your encouraging posts.

Have fallon off the wagon big style!!

Having visitors and it being school hols.

But as i have only 8 days until my next month starts, I have a plan!!!

I am going to allocate £50 a week for supermarket shopping, which i will draw out of BS- keeping it in my offset account until then. I will have a seperate cash purse for food and will leave all cards at home- so no chance of over spend! Any trips to local shop for milk or wine! will have to come out of that too.

We are 2 adults and 2 children.

Going to meal plan and make 1 meal for all too- wish me luck!
