I've made a massive leap today. I've popped to the cashpoint and now have my remaining food budget in a purse so that I can see it in real terms! Next weekend will be the first time I go 'cash only' but I think it'll really help.
It's the first time I've done this challenge but I'm finding it a real eye opener plus it's making the boring grocery shop so much more exciting! I need to get out more don't I?!?!
Hope you're all doing well20p Savers (£22.20/£100)

We had toasties for lunch today too! Lovely and tasty for a quick lunch.
We made 3 and cut them up and shared them...just cheese in 1, cheese and tom puree with some oregano in another and cheese and some cooked leftover chicken and mustard in another.0 -
EDIT: Anyone know the best value place to stock up on tinned tuna? I'm reluctant to spend a pound per 200g tin, but can't find any striking offers and am down to 4 tins in the store cupboard.[/B]
in farm foods they have eight tins for £5. John west packs of four.
theres a £2.50 off a £25 spend on their site if you really wanted to stock up at 56p per tin.0 -
popped in farmfoods today, stayed on my list and bought fresh onions. 2 tubes tomato puree, 2 bags frozen leaf spinach (79p, how cheap is that) and had change from £3.
i have some bulgar wheat in the cupboard and a half pack of feta cheese so will be making this for tea this week. Peppers bought from lidl on offer.

JIL, that recipe looks good!
Had a grocery NSD today but paid £5 for my kids to attend a ready steady cook event, they made pizza's and cupcakes. As I help out, I got to bring the left over food home, so got plenty of cheese, ham, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, eggs, flour. Luckily I have spaghetti bolagnese planned for tomorrow nights tea, so lots of veg will get used up.Grocery Challenge 2024

Nipped to A!di for veg for yesterdays tea late in the afternoon, and it was like a plague of locusts had hit the store.... loads of fresh f&v missing completely, very little of anything they did have (apart from parsnips which we all think are vile), and the meat & ready meal shelves were just as bad !!
Rather than try Mr M on the way home and possibly end up with nothing, I decided we'd have to manage with frozen veg for once. Picked up a 1kg bag of mixed veg for 89p expecting nothing brilliant (none of us like frozen carrots), but OH and I were very pleasantly surprised. It's already been decided that this is going to become a regular item on my shopping list, and should help bring my grocery bill down a bit. It may not be by much a meal, but those 'not muches' will soon add upCheryl0 -

Hope you're all doing well
I am doing this starting Wednesday (although I may have to do my shop on Tuesday this week due to an interview). I plan to draw out my maximum and have hidden a pot to chuck any leftovers into. Hopefully I can build it up enough to use as spending money on our holiday in August.
Fwiw I also find doing this challenge makes grocery shopping more excitingUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
